hey there, kaizo thread. i threw together a little something for you guys. it's a light kaizo-puzzle, but as i've found, there are more than a few solutions. so, the challenge: find as many solutions as you can - the fastest, the most creative, whatever - and have some fun while you do it.

PUZZLISH!

i know that you guys will probably be quick to break it, but seriously, see what you can do without wall-jumps. it's pretty fun stuff.

(if you see an orange switch block pop up, that probably means you tried to cheat by keyjumping)

I've beaten the level, but there are some (quite commonly known) glitches that will allow the player to skip parts of the level.... I didn't need the Silver Pow, Mushroom, Key and springboard. Also reset doors are always risky to use, they invite multiple breaks.
I liked the level, although it was a tad simple. A puzzle should be a bit more than a level with scattered items, but you used the items nicely and decorated everything perfectly. The level design wasn't amazing, but the rest was quite good.
Summary: a decent, short, breakable puzzle level.
Of course you should fight fire with fire, you should fight everything with fire.

W-w-w-w-wahhhh

SD is back?!

Why did I not hear of this?

Anyways can I ask about the sudden obsesion with kussotare?
I know kaizo is renown for it's precision jumps, but seriously.
"Kusso" sucks in that respect.
bouncy blocks and munchers arent creative/fun/-funny- or anything else worth mentioning.

And that is why "Kusso" shouldnt come back :P (i hate munchers and bouncy blocks -.-)

Seeing this makes me NEVER want to play Kusottare. WTF? Muncher mazes are one thing but not being able to see where the hell you are going is evil!

And don't forget the 5 HOURS he spent trying to do ONE noteblock jump under a Muncher.
I agree, Kusottare does not look fun. That Muncher Maze is too hard even for a Kaizo hack. There should be a new name for extremely unfun, badly designed, and unfair hacks like Kusottare that are too unfair to be Kaizo, but without all the extreme tricks and glitches of Pit hacks.

Kaizzle 2

Edit: This version is outdated. Check my files for the the newest version.

So I'm finally finished with the making and recording of Kaizzle 2.
I'm quite sure there are billions of breaks in there, but that should make it even more fun. ;)
I have videos of me completing all the levels and I will make them public one after another to show the intended solutions, but at first I want to give you TASer out there a chance to find and create your own ways.
I hope some of you are able to^^.

And if you have problems I recommend you to watch Kaizoman666's TAS of it although he is breaking it into pieces^^.

Have fun playing and breaking my hacks ;)
As always I appreciate all kinds of constructive criticism.

Well, keep in mind that (as far as I know) Kussottare was one of the first Kaizo hacks which used all these types of traps, therefore they were still 'creative' when the hack got released. Surely today the level design and graphics are horrible, but at the time of release the design was pretty good (the graphics were still horrible). I've played it, and I'll never play it again, but I didn't hate it as much as some others do.

OGS: yup I'm back!

I can't say it wasn't revoloutionary for a kaizo hack. But I just personally dislike it, but I agree it was creative for it's time... I was just expressing my hate for bouncy blocks xD.

also i am working on a "soft" kaizo level for a collab that i might post up here for suggestions and criticism.(?)

What do you think?
@ pudim - looks nice, but rather easy...

also, need help, im doing one sided wall jumps, and i did like 4 or 5 in a row, and im off screen, but now i have tried the same one, and about 120 other times to let go of right for 1 frame and still cant catch the wall again!

Only cause he has it on tool assist. I really think we should make an effort to differentiate between "Kaizo" hacks, which are hard but doable, and "Not Freaking Happening" hacks, which require TAS, an iron will, and persistence out the ass.

Hoping for someone to Let's Play my rom hack, Hell On A Stick. Current version 0.4.3.

Hoping for willing betatesters and/or LPers. PM if interested. (I wanna know where you're uploading your vids if at all, so I can watch the pain.)

um no... i was saying it doesnt look hard not based on the tas, but the level in general, and the fact that all the other levels in the hack i found harder then cool or cruel, and this looks easier.

Savestates count as tools, you know.
And a lot of "TAS-requiring" hacks are still somewhat easy without any slowdown or frame advance. It just takes a little more patience.

Though, I've done Kaizo without ever using a savestate in a level, so a lot of things are pretty easy for me. #w{=D}

All of us should realize that the Kaizo Mario World series was intended to be played by his friend without the use of tools, which goes back to what Kaizoman666 said beating a level without ever using a single savestate. We should also realize that Kaizo Mario World is not even that hard anymore. Ever since the creation of Kaizo, we have all been trying to recreate our take of it, but we always seem to create twice the difficulty. Eventually, the whole SMW Hacking Community will be surrounded by these difficulty-based hacks (i.e. Pit Of Despair/Death, Item Abuse 1/2, etc.) which is what we have been revolved around, so what people think "Kaizo Difficulty" is actually "in-human difficulty" (i.e. the definition of TASVideos.org).

Also realize that the original Kaizo series did not force wall-jumps, p-switch jumps, key-jumping, or even any glitches. The whole hack is possible without a single savestate. They are mostly used for time-saving reasons (i.e. not waiting to die everytime). So before calling your hack "Kaizo difficulty", see if you can even beat it without the real need for any savestates.

To me, the best recreation of a Kaizo hack was SMW Intrigue. Since then, not a singe "good" hack has been created close to be noted a good "Kaizo hack". However, there are too many good "inhuman hacks" out there.

Anyways, World Of Pain level 4 (Aggravating) should be coming out before October arrives (or around September 15).

Obviously, I could be totally wrong about all this, so don't 100% listen to me.
Here are a couple more levels from FML:

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ro3M1mVSB2A?fs=1&hl=en_US&rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ro3M1mVSB2A?fs=1&hl=en_US&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

I'm not completely satisfied with the beginning or the end, so I'll probably change those slightly.

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/XKJKTa0lqJ8?fs=1&hl=en_US&rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/XKJKTa0lqJ8?fs=1&hl=en_US&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

You can tell just from the name that it wouldn't get accepted in the regular hacks section :)

You do realize that Mario can still live if he goes onto munchers, after he hits the goal tape right?

Also I see so much possible breaks, in that first video.
@Pangaea No, no, no, you got it perfectly. Although I do have one complaint with the idea that Kaizo is completely doable without savestates. You might be able to do the first game, but the second game breaks that rule. ESPECIALLY LEVEL NINE! Oh my god that level is NOT even remotely feasible without an assload of savestates.

@Sadistic Designer: decent is good.

the springboard isn't necessary, but the anti-break measures for it would make it damn near impossible to use. i left it as one of multiple options.

[expletive]. the reset door. i should've made it shorter. crap. that's just drastic enough of a fail to make me create a v1.1 to replace the old puzzle.

@PangaeaPanga: no no, i agree. the line between Kaizo hacks and Pit hacks has become so blurred you can no longer define it.

another thing, why are hacks labelled as Kaizo-difficulty associated with stacked/floating munchers and cement cages? of course, even the original Kaizo left something to be desired, but it's perfectly possible to create a Kaizo hack that looks beatuiful. i mean, just look at SMB2j. sure, it's not kaizo hard, but basically the whole reason America didn't get it until 2007 was the difficulty level.

@Kaizokoban: post-goal mario only dies if the death routine is called (eg: lava or a hole in the ground), it ignores the hurt routine (so enemies and munchers don't affect him at all, even when he's small). in that regard, you may want to fix your level.
we are all 😎 but some are more 😎 than others
Those Munchers might be insta-kill blocks which still work even when Mario crosses the goal.
Tower of Impossible.... 500 trys and only key jumped twice.... WHY!?!
