Super Mario Odyssey - MSU1 Teaser

Standard

I'm not capable of in-depth criticism right now... All I can say is wow. The awesome-looking intro, the ASM gimmicks in general, and the cool level design (though there isn't exactly a lot to play yet) really made me feel like I was playing a real, official Mario game.

Not to mention, using WAV files as music. That really made me go o_O. Would a real SNES (plus some enhancement chip, apparently) truly support that?

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to playing a longer/finished version of this hack - it seems to be a really revolutionary one. I'm not too upset about you pretty much cancelling SMO, but it's certainly great to see some of its features/graphics implemented into this new masterpiece.

What video?

Yeah, it's pretty disappointing that the old SMO's dead, but from what you're saying, it's probablly for the best. Can't wait to see further updates!
Good fucking bye.
@BMF: Well I think the old version was so great BECAUSE it used the old editor. You know, the limitations made it great. Also I loved the original SMW music in SMO. In my opinion there couldn't have been any more perfectly fitting music than the original SMW music. Especially the original SMW cave music and ghost house music went great with your various space levels. But oh well, I'm probably the only who thinks like this. I'll just wait and see how this turns out. I'm sure this will be great even without the nostalgic factor.
Feel free to visit my website/blog - it's updated rarely, but it looks pretty cool!
I'll be sure to play it and rant about it being overrated

Good thing BSNES is my main emulator. Also, most hacks have songs that don't work in BSNES. Yours is opposite.

The screenshots are nice and I'll be sure to tell you my thoughts. Nice graphics and the level design seems decent.

Also, would you mind saying how the original SMO story ended?

I'd tell you, but...I never got that far. :(
I'm going to play it right now. I've played the first and is completly AWESOME

I'll be happy to help you with you Status Bar, anything.

...What can I say?...Obviously nothing, my jaws are already on the floor.
Outstanding, unbelievable, awesome. I never thought something like this would be ever possible. Not only the amazing music, these nice ASM hacks, now THIS is innovative! The level design looks very cool too. I love those Layer 3 clouds there.
Also, is finishing the level possible? Or I'm just missing the obvious?
And I just found that we can't get a "Game Over". :) Handy.

I wish I knew how to do stuff like this. :D With this wav-inserting feature of MSU-1 porting is basically no problem anymore. Or is it hard to do? I see you used an .sfc file instead of .smc, I guess they are somehow related.
This is unlike any sort of SMW hack I've ever played. Not only have you outdone yourself, even with such a small portion of the game, but you have revolutionized the world of SMW hacking, again. .wav files in SMW hacks? Seriously, I think I just jizzed myself.
GoldenSonic15,
BMF's post just above my first post here has a link to an AVI file of someone playing the demo.

I hope I can figure out how to get bsnes working on my computer before you finish the hack. I'm almost finished drawing my "BMF-Styled" trees, though. :)

Ignore this, I was too excited to read the whole first post. >_<
Also, I just made a little video (if no problem) for those who can't play this (or who just want to check it out) and to make it a bit more famous.

<object width="450" height="362"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/opsorqVVkuk?fs=1&hl=hu_HU"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/opsorqVVkuk?fs=1&hl=hu_HU" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="450" height="362"></embed></object>

I thought I'd post this video here, because it belong here, nah.
Woah!
That music is awesome. :D
The cutscene is coll aswell. I wonder what that machine was?
Methinks it's a time machine.

Great Scott!!

Wow, I... Don't know what to say, but this is THE GREATEST SMW HACK I HAVE EVER SEEN. MP3s ON A SMW HACK? REVOLUTIONARY!

*Ahem* Sorry about that, got a bit exciting, to top all of that off, I even jizzed my pants.

But I don't seem to get why the music doesn't seem to even start when I play the game myself. I hear sounds, but not the awesome music. Am I doing something wrong?
Nothing to put here at the time being.
Thanks to Tom Servo for the awesome new layout!
@Marioman:
1. Those aren't MP3s. They're WAVs. Not that it makes much difference, it's awesome with both.
2. You need to play it on bsnes to get the music to work. Why? I don't know.

Anyways, I tried this, and I absolutely love it. This feels as though it could be the legitimate sequel to SMW itself. Keep up the good work!

I'll have to agree with your first paragraph. :)

Also, are you sure you tried with bsnes 0.68? I tried with snes9x and Zsnes and I got your problem with them. And if yes, are you sure the .wav files are in the same folder as the .sfc file?

edit:
grishnax: BMF said he'll use MP3s in the future demos, probably. And if he says it should be possible...right?
Also you need to use bsnes because only that can load the wav files, I guess. Snes9x and Zsnes don't have this MSU1 feature.

Ah, nevermind, I realized I had to EXTRACT all the files.
But holy shit... This is pretty impressive...

I hope he releases whatever he used to insert WAVs into your hack.
Nothing to put here at the time being.

This is the nr. 1 best thing I've played within SMW hacking. I can't come up with any word that can describe the experience I had when I tried it. The music is magic, the graphics are eye candy, the level design is perfect for a 1-1, the colors are sexy, the ASM (title screen, into etc. was mindblowing. "How" is probably the most suitable word about this. Anyway, keep this up for the love of god, take your time, I can't wait so see more. You just got me addiced to a demo...

Also, I just realized you can edit the music! By replacing the music, but keeping the same file name. And of course, having it as a .WAV file.Nothing to put here at the time being.
Thanks to Tom Servo for the awesome new layout!
What has once been thought to have been impossible has been acheived.
I am at a loss for words to describe the mix of feelings I am undergoing at the moment.
So I'm just going to go with a generic "OMG EPIC WIN".

OMG EPIC WIN
So technicality the music's not in the hack is it..
