Best VGM Tournament

Sure, why not. I figured I'd copy board2.

Okay so what this is is basically like, I make a tournament bracket out of video game music suggested by you, and then you vote on which song in each matchup is better in your opinion. Whichever gets the most votes goes to the next round and such, until we get a winner.

For rules:
- You must post a youtube video or mp3 of the full version of each song you're nominating.
- You may submit a maximum of 4 songs.
- No remixes.
- No custom music made for unofficial games, i.e., ROM hacks.
- No unused music.
- When voting, please listen to both songs in each round.
- When voting, you may pass on voting for any number of rounds you like.

I suppose I'll give two weeks for voting. This means it ends on Tuesday, the 7th of September. No specific time on said date, but it'll be some time during the evening in central north america.

Any other questions: Ask away.

If I forgot something: Tell me.

Have fun!

I can only think of three ;_;

Cave story moonsong

Cave story Geothermal

Touhou reach for the moon immortal smoke

I dunno anything about touhou so someone just say what touhou its from. I just know the SMW port, and it sounds awesome. But the original is awesome as well.

I will post again if I think of a fourth one.
Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin - Hail From The Past:
My favorite video game track of all time, it matches the area of the game perfectly... Who doesn't think of a desert bathed in twilight when they hear it?

3D Dot Game Heroes - Wilderness:
I both love and hate this game; I hate it for the difficulty, but I love it for the music, with this being best track in the game in my opinion.

Earthworm Jim 2 (Sega Saturn)- Subterannean (Lorenzen's Soil):
I remember hearing this for the first time and being blown away by the atmospheric effect it has... Definitely the best version of the song.

Final Fantasy VIII - The Castle:
When I think of a dark, demented castle ruled over by a dark overlord of chaos, I think of this song.
Follow me on Hermitscape for random bits of game design talk and pixel art, or even request something for me to draw.

Oops, mockingod already nominated it.

In it's place:

Super Metroid - Maridia - Sandy Desert
It's like the Jaws theme got stuck in The Twilight Zone #w{O.O}
come check out my stream, i play cool stuff sometimes -- twitch.tv/xcombomamba

tl;dr you're a cool person :)
Damnit FUGGNUTZ I was going to say Reset! D:

Well, here you go anyway:

Kushi's Ride - Okami.
The Sun Rises - Okami (what? I like Okami. :<)
Grand History - La MuLANA

Honestly can't pick which Touhou song I like the most right now since I must have a song from there. I might post again later I guess.

Earthbound - Gygas' Theme
Super Metroid - Title Screen
Shin Megami Tensei - Cathedral
Shin Megami Tensei II - Battle
Not sure if Gygas' theme really counts as music, but it adds so much atmosphere. The smt 2 battle theme is just awesome, the sort of thing that would be the boss theme in any other rpg. The instrumentation could be a bit better, but oh well.

1. Okami - The Sun Rises
Blumiere nominated this already, and for good reason. Add in an outstanding final boss, mix in some of the game's main theme, and it makes this one of the most epic boss themes I've ever heard.

2. Kirby 64 - Neo Star Stages 2 and 4.
This theme does pretty much everything right. Nailing both high and low frequencies with some epic synth, it really is one of the greatest themes in the Kirby series.

3. Everquest: Omens of War - Nobles' Causeway.
Yes, this theme is actually from a relatively famous MMORPG back in the day. I guarantee no one here has heard it, but it is one of the most atmospheric and peaceful songs I've ever heard in a game. It truly fits the atmosphere of a ruined, ghostly canyon.

4. Klonoa: Door to Phantomile - Blue Cave Echo
I loved Klonoa when I was younger. It's a very underrated, but also a very good game. I rediscovered this theme recently, and remembered how awesome it was. Mix in a crazy time signature with all sorts of cool instruments (even a steel drum), and you've got a very awesome cave theme.

Non-mainstream stuff is the greatest stuff~
Interesting game!

Lufia II - The Last Duel
Simply beautiful and brilliant melody. Atma's port showed the "beauty" of this song, phenomenal piece of work. Really has an endgame feeling in it.

Enthusia Professional Racing - AWAKENING ~ Nürburgring Suite
Probably you haven't heard of this game yet, but this song is fantastic for sure!

Chrono Trigger - Corridors of Time
Who DOESN'T think this is a great music anyway? Probably the best one from the whole game.

Asterix & Obelix (SNES) - The Mountains
This song is so underrated, although it really needs some attention, in my opinion. The game itself may be an ass, but the song is simply perfect. Too bad this hasn't been ported yet...

Damn, it was hard to choose. I know soo many wonderful and amazing VGMs, but I had to choose only 4.. ;_;
I haven't played so many games, so all I can suggest is the obvious mainstream songs. Doesn't mean they're bad though.

NOTE: This is probably more of a "my personal favorite VGM" list highly influenced by the memories I associate with them instead of a compilation of the most well-"built" songs that I think would have a chance to win this contest. Oh well.

I can't think of any more songs, but these should be more than enough anyway.
