Even sonic's final smash can be avoided (i've done it myself). To be fair, most of those items are easily avoidable...

I think that all items should be turned off, due to 2 main faults.

- Cheapness.
- Takes the "Skill" out of the match.

Items such as Hammers, Smash balls and assist trophy's are considered very cheap as they allow the opponent to easily kill the player. Hammers are mainly 2 hits and your out. Smash balls variety, but they still can be very cheap when it comes to sonic and link etc.

Items (as i said above) make player have great advantages over the other player. Have you ever played against one of your noob friends on SSBB and hes beaten you because of the help of items? This tournament is about skill, and fighting with all your knowledge and experience to win. If items are added, it completely takes the whole "Tournament" out of the picture, as its basically luck of the draw in what items you use.

...oh AND YOU CAN'T USE SKILL WITH ITEMS, IT DOES NOT TAKE SKILL TO WIN WITH ITEMS, IT IS ONLY CHEAPNESS.

Please agree with me to stop items getting the best of you in this tourney by replying. =)

Yeah, I was actually considering to suggest all items banned because of easy wins. Even on low item setting, there are still enough to turn it unfair. SSBB is a fighting game, not a "use items to win" game.

Yes, too many times.
Your layout has been removed.
I repeat. I will NOT be banning items. All the items were designed for the game and to be used to the players advantage. I don't want this to turn into a generic 'no items, final destination' tourney...

So wait, you're not banning items because you don't wanna look like a tourney tard, but you're making it so we can't switch characters, "like they do in tourneys"? You're making no sense at all. And another thing for people complaining about items, I'm sure if you and your opponent agree you can just turn them off.

Ehm it does take skill to dodge said items, that being said it takes skill to properly use items to get out of situations (ex. sticky bombs, lightsabers, and other things) and again,as Tormentor2 said you could get your opponent to turn them off. Every final smash is avoidable and no one said you couldn't pratice dodging or pratice in general. No real problems occur with items, I mean like insta-kill things would be nice if they weren't on but, thats the way she goes, when having one the host makes decisions ultimately not the entrants. Curiously though this isn't a complain or flame the host's decisions thread, its atourney discussion thread.

edit: well all smashes aside from yoshi's and a couple are easily dodgable

This
Thats a really good idea, if someone wants items on, they can and if someone doesn't want them they can turn them off. Everyone wins.
If there is any conficts between users, they could maybe just turn a few items off

Your layout has been removed.
now lets just hope this at the least gets allowed
I will consider this and update you on it later...

Why not, every OFFICIAL tournament is like that. No items and no stage disadvantage, that why Nintendo put these rules in the OFFICIAL tournaments.

However, as long as we get to choose the item switch, then im fine.

I have come to an answer... I will allow people to have their own item switches as long as both players agree on it...

(Edited to remove some caps used for emphasis since they might make me look like I'm angry, which I'm not- I'm just stating my side and why I think that it's stupid to think that items require no skill to use. It's honestly NOT about throwing them until you win.)
I beg to differ. It takes much more skill than you think to use items correctly.

Smash Balls too cheap? They are super moves, intended to give OHKOs. Normal fighting games don't instakill with them? They generally give only one life. KO the foe, both players get restored health for the next match. SSB series has multiple life and NO health restoration until the next game.

Hammer too cheap? Hammer randomly breaks, making it useful for your foe, and Golden Hammer randomly becomes Squeaky. Not as often as normal usage, but still happens. And they can be dodged. High ground. Speedy character. Projectiles to stall. Or better yet, use your own items on them. Search for a Bob-omb, throw it at them. Fun if it hits. :D

Spam the Home-Run Bat? Try jumping higher than your foe when they throw it at you, and if it doesn't go off the stage, get to it before them and do what you will with it. Do note that it is MEANT to be thrown, pretty much. Its Smash attack isn't that useful half the time because few people are really gonna get hit by it unless they are stunned or otherwise trapped. (I will admit that it is a bit frustrating to be KO'd by someone just throwing the bat at you until you die, but what can you do? It's utterly worthless any other way.)

There's also the matter of surviving. Sure, you can use items all you want, but your foe is going to hit you, too. You can't say there's no skill in surviving. Can't win on items alone, you have to survive and recover, too.

Really, what's so bad about items? I use them all the time, and while I am good without them, I prefer them to be on because it adds that unexpected quality to matches, AND I know how to use them correctly. i will always adamantly oppose people who demand items be turned off because it requires "no skill" to use them. [insert word here that I will not say]
<Adam> I feel like smwc is a prostitute now, because we put up a porn ad for money
well to be honest most (i mean MOST) SSBB torney's don't allow items.. and you are quoting from other ssbb tourney's, so think of it this way... turn em off and then there will be more fair battles.

imagen this kind of situation :

ok so your on Hyrule temple

both just started

and then bam smash ball on your opponents side of the map

*end*

now seeing as "you can easily avoid items" you cant stop a situation like that happening, ASPECIALLY if they are playing defensive :/

so yes items are cheap... end of *period period*

If we turn off items, turn off everything minus smash balls.

If these are the rules for the tourney, do you people really need to keep arguing about items?

yes, i shall only state this once:

how will this be an equal tourney if anyone can just battle thier friend and say "Oooo smash balls and baseball bats only"

this whole situation is just asking for flame wars so I PERSONALLY say, just have no items for equal matches, or there will be arguments.

Except for smash balls and baseball bats.

Agreed. Even though I have no say in the matter as I am not part of this tourney.

I think that a Practice an discussion thread would be a good idea for us to practice against each other before an official match. and discuss things on the same topic.
What if we don't have an SD Card and can't buy one soon?

If there is a way I'll PM you.
