Now, animated decorations for a grasslands level... maybe you could make the birds from Yoshi's House?

Or dancing flowers/grass by flipping their X-values every frame. That might not look the best, eh..

Or, since this hack isn't really vanilla, how about monty mole holes with white eyes staring out and blinking every once and awhile?

I thought of using the bushes and making them shift every 2 or 3 frames but I like the Monty mole idea thanks ill post if I get it to look nice

Update: I got them to look alright

I am trying to have something animated in each level or almost every level and cant think of anything for the grassland level. Any ideas?

I really like the forest. Using layer 2 leaves was a good idea. I can also see how you did the fake HDMA (using them as FG tiles instead of BG tiles)

I kind of meant Mole Holes, as in the FG tile with a black hole in the shape of a mole. Which would have white eyes staring out. However, this looks cool too, but I bet some will mistake it for enemies.

glad you guys liked the forest fake HDMA I put in. In other news the moles might not be used due to looking weird in animation. to replace them are these flowers

This is looking great, your level design is awesome, my only complain is that green fire flower.

Awe man typing this on the iPad at the store =P but anyway about the flowers I guess they do look kinda odd being green not orange so I will fix that later
The forest level looks interesting. Only complaint is the empty background. Try adding some clouds without layer priority to the layer with the trees. That would make it look a little better.
Also, the BG in the screenshot with the flower looks a little bland. I would also suggest adding some clouds and such to it.
Hello there, here is my new blog. I will usually update it every day.
My Pokemon:

Party Image cause I feel lazy.
another minor update I started a ghost house area and by started I mean made some thing animated for a ghost house. I have been playing paper Mario a lot lately so gave lady bow a cameo

right now she is just a picture but if I learn to use NPC's then I can make Mario talk to her. comments?
(Yes she is vanilla But I will not tell what the bows are. =P)
Another update I learned to use NPC's

any other NPC ideas I should use?
Well you should TOTALLY put: a Yoshi in yoshi's house, make bow an npc too, a Toad npc or something in place of message boxes, as those get boring. HECK anything really!

well, Yoshi is a 32x32 sprite or something bigger then the 16x32 that the NPC is originally. And im not having graphics from other games like SMB3 or SMAS so I cant have toads.
The bows in the boos are the overworld rocks.
Now gimme a cookie!

Well, since I don't really like seeing grammar and spelling errors, I figured I could point them out.

Aha! I see what you did there. It actually does look a bit simplistic though. If you want to know the trick, look between the img tag in this post. It causes the broken image.

Eh... Since this isn't exactly vanilla anymore since there are NPCs, why not use the SMW Style Yoshi's big player GFX since it's 16x32? Either that or put a baby Yoshi inside of a cloud.

UMA wins a cookie. thanks Marisa I fixed all the grammar stuff.
I added a house and will add a few more to make it seem more like a work camp underground.

and also this hack is NOT vanilla by most standards. I think of vanilla as using GFX that SMW had in it only. that's my take on this hack it is NOT vanilla just vanilla GFX only.

@Puffy1406 thanks I'm glad you like my work.

That picture. is there any way to make it so the mushroom does not come back when you leave?

Yes there is, the only way i know will waste 1 level space, it is to make the door to get you to a level with the same layout of the first one. like this:

Level 1>mushroom room>a copy of level 1>a copy of mushroom room, without the mushroom. also, pretty impressing work, it looks great so far. and for your yoshi NPC, why don't you use the NPC WITHOUT his graphics and make a ExGFX instead? like the invisible NPC and a ExGFX Behind. for the toad NPC, i already did one in my vanilla entry, you can make a body out of a P switch, the foot with a fire flower and the mushroom Gfx itself for the head.

@TheGamer well, I might do that for the mushroom thanks for the idea. and thanks for the complements i always love to see people liking my work. the invisible NPC idea helps me a lot so I can use the princess as an NPC now.

now onto a problem. see this?

see the "0" in the status bar above the candle? well, It is the bonus stars. I don't want bonus stars or that "0" to appear. is there a way to deal with it?

EDIT: crap forgot to mention something. well, you guys know SMW pretty well and might have a better idea then me. I am trying to find something to act as a bramble set. now anything you guys can think would look and work like a bunch of brambles pleas let me know.

The problem I see with that is that if the player were to enter the mushroom room, leave, and reenter, they would be baffled to see the promising mushroom they would've hoped to have eaten after a short walk outside of the room absent from the room. If I were in the player's case I would be. Of course, this is still the best solution, and I may overlook it and still be able to enjoy your hack.

I like the newest screenshot, however, the chain that is suspending the platform whose graphics are borrowed from the Reznor battle looks lopsided. In reality if such a mistake were made in a chain to suspend a platform, the chain would slump to one side greatly, and thus this looks awkward. My suggestion is to have 2 chains holding up the platform, one on the very left and one on the very right. This actually follows the laws of physics and is thus a fitting resolution.

Though I am intrigued by your ambitious palette work, the idea of a blue-fired torch and a torch honing a crimson fire seems a bit clashy. Now, it's a rather minor problem, but I thought I'd let you know.

It was rather clever using the castle ruins from the castle destruction scene as rubble upon the cave ground. It gives off a feeling that a castle once stood there but is now long gone.

As I said once before, the palettes shine. Give yourself a pat on the back.

Note that I felt like writing a post differently than usual. Meh.

@Spud Alpha thanks it seems like your are enjoying the updates. about the reznor It does look much better with two chains this was just a mistake.

fixed(A) and more detailed(B) I added bottoms to hang off the chains.
