The Seven Islands demo release

Well, I haven't released anything in probably five years. Why? I am a busy man.

That being said, I wasn't too busy to release this before I go on a short break from working on it.

FAQ

Q: What is this?
A: It's a hack, silly. It is a demo of World 1 from the full hack.

Q: How hard is it?
A: Not very. I tried to keep a reasonable difficulty curve.

Q: Is there a story?
A: Yeah, but it's a typical Mario story. Don't take it too seriously.

Q: How long is it?
A: 10 exits.

Q: Custom graphics?
A: Almost completely composed of original art tiles, the few exceptions are original SMW tiles, like Mario, Yoshi, etc.

Q: Did you rip graphics from other games?
A: I don't think so, if I did, I don't remember them.

Q: Custom ASM?
A: Composed of mostly patches, but there's a wee bit of custom ASM in there.

Q: Can I steal stuff from you?
A: Of course you can. If it is requested, I may upload the map 16 files. Everything is fair game... I don't believe in locking hacks.

Holy wow! O_O This looks awesome. You're a very-very nice drawer, BlackDays. Especially those ruins graphics, they look really awesome! I'm going to play this hack right now, and of course, please upload these graphics. I'm pretty sure a lot of people would use it, great work!!
I expected this to be a noobish hack, but this is an epic win. I love the graphics, and you don't seem to have bad level design either.
I do have a complaint though, there seems to be style clash in the ruins area. You should maybe give the stone blocks an outline or something.

The screenshots attracted me into playing this hack, and while playing I noticed something: You're being rather generous with the feathers when it's only World 1. Feathers shouldn't be that common.

Otherwise, rather fun hack besides that little nitpiick!

Edit: Also, why isn't boss music playing during the boss battle?

Edit 2: I assume there isn't a secret exit to Spiceless Dunes yet.

I played this a while ago, and it was very, very fun.

Though, as GS15 said, you had too much feathers. I could break the levels pretty easily by flying over the level. :\

It was still good though.
Your graphics are so awesome that I could compare some with TSRPR's. Your OW is very good, too. Really great work!

Sorry to revive my dead thread. I took a small break from working on this, but work shall resume. :)

Thanks for the feedback guys. There are problems, and I am aware of some of them. I did kind of think about the style clash in the ruins areas, but honestly, I couldn't make a black outline that wasn't just weird and blocky looking (I know that's silly, considering they are blocks, but they looked more square with black outlines.) There's a compromise in here somewhere that I'll find.

I forgot to finish up the boss. Pretty embarassing (I find the graphics to be awful,) really, but time was short.

Yeah, it was a demo, so there are a couple of exits that don't really lead to anywhere. Spiceless Dunes leads to the Yellow Switch palace with the exit (not much of a spoiler, the secret is pretty easy to find being world 1 and all.)

Glad you guys enjoyed it. I'll take all the advice to design the much more difficult to make World 2.
