General Mario Games Thread

I must be extremely messed up or something. It seems like most of the things people find hard in SMG2 I find very fun/easy (including this), while there are several things I deem hard that people haven't mentioned (Cosmic Clones in the Chompworks), as far as I know. :/

And looking at Luigi-san's post, I might be influenced to get a 3DS. I'm currently not completely convinced, even though I really want the new Paper Mario and Golden Sun, but an LoZ and SMW remake might push me over into buying it.
I managed to get both GS on Rolling Coaster Galaxy. Special World is now done, and I can move onto other, hopefully less challenging, levels. I bet those Fluzzard galaxies are going to be a pain.
Finally finished the game. The final star was very tough, but I managed to beat the galaxy with a relatively low death count. (About 10 or so). I cannot begin to explain how hard my heart was pumping as I was dodging an onslaught of boomerangs and hammers at the last section. It was very, very hard, but I managed to pull it off.

Now I'm bored. Baw.
Well...at least other good-looking Wii games are on their way. You won't be bored for long.

I got about 30 Green Stars today. Another day like that, and I'll be on the home stretch. And all this work for a Kaizo-esque challenge is...worth it?
I'm now at 192 stars and 9999 star bits with all the Green Stars from the first four worlds.

Again, I didn't really have trouble getting any of the Green Stars yet, but some of the stars are placed in some ridiculous locations (first Green Star of Chompworks Galaxy comes to mind). With World 5 up next, the Green Stars will probably start giving me trouble pretty soon...

And I'm still not looking forward to the final star.

Yeah, some of the Green Stars are in obscure spots. I liked the second one in the World 5 Castle. You needed to aim the cannon all the way to the left to find the star hiding in a small corner. The last Green Star in Flipsville was interesting too. It took me a minute to realize you couldn't reach it by jumping and you needed to go to the opposite side of the platform and "fall up" into it.

Anyone have trouble with the Green Star on the slide of Tall Trunk? By some stroke of luck, I slid directly into it on my first try.

Well, not looking forward to the Fluzzard Green Stars, as I hate the Fluzzard levels in general. I'll save those for later.

Damn, how did you beat the whole thing before me when you got the game after me?
I don't know Jacob...but my playtime was approximately 29 hours. Let me know what yours is when you beat it!

And about the Fluzzard stars...they are surprisingly easy. In fact, the first green star of the second Fluzzard stage was the easiest green star in the game for me. You can get it like...10 seconds from the start of the galaxy. No joke.

That's good to know. Maybe I'll swing by those two Galaxies next and grab the Green Stars so I'll be free of those horrible levels forever.

Also, FS4, did you see your final death count?

If the death count is the small number to the top right of your file tab...then yes.

429 :<

That seems abnormally high, especially since I don't recall dying nearly that many times. On the other hand, I've had friends come over and play quite a bit...so I would subtract about 60 or so lives from that. Still...it's still very high D:

Wow. Considering you beat the game much quicker than I did, my total death count is likely to be much higher than that. I lost a shitload of lives on Rolling Coaster's purple coin mission, so that won't help.
Flip-Out Galaxy. Probably the most appropriate name for this level ever as it made me want to FLIP OUT! #w{x(} Mario kept being an asshole by slamming his head into the last platform before the Star.
Also, getting the Comet Token as well made it harder. I died like 20 times in this Galaxy. At least, they were nice enough to give you a 1UP everytime.

Now, as for my progress, I'm currently at 136 Stars. Urgh... getting the ones that are high up in the air and can only be reached with a triple jump are annoying.

And is there another way of getting Green Star 1 in the first Bowser Jr. stage instead of long jumping and landing in the lava twice? It worked but surely there's a safer way of doing it.

whoa, FS, mine's 423. Pretty close eh?
at least we're not like BLM with his 500+ death count right? :p
207 stars, and, as expected, the troubles are starting up again.

For one thing, Slipsand Galaxy's last two Green Stars were a pain since they were right on the edges of that big sand slide. I also missed a Green Star in Shiverburn, Fleet Glide, and Bowser Jr.'s Boomsday Machine. I couldn't even find the second star in both Fleet Glide and Bowser Jr.'s Boomsday Machine, and as for Shiverburn Galaxy, I apparently have to bring a Cloud Flower all the way to this one area. Sigh...

Yes. You can jump on top of the Thwomp, and jump over to the castle.

Fleet Glide) At the crumbling part, it's behind a tall falling pillar on the left. Very easy to miss.

Boomsday Machine) At the second cannon, aim all the way to the left. You should see it.
I'm at 233 stars, and I am done for today. Thanks to the above post for those Green Stars--I would never have found that Boomsday one.

Once I've beaten the game in full, I plan on posting my official review here. Does anyone mind?
Thanks for the help. :)

After getting those three tough Green Stars, I kept going and am now at 226 stars. Surprisingly, most of World 6's Green Stars didn't give me much trouble except for the third one in Melty Monster Galaxy. (It was in the Rock Mushroom area, enough said.) All that's left for Green Stars is the last Bowser galaxy and World S.

If you need help with any stars in SMG2, IGN has a very nice guide for them.

I'm glad I finished World S right at the beginning. ;P
You could also use the PRIMA Game Guide book, ya know. Buy it at GameStop.
Well, I've got 117 stars now, just need to rack up more starbits to feed the last luma. I got the Rolling Coaster Purple Coins Star in like 6 tries, but the thing that gave me the most trouble was 'Rolling Down Rolling Lane' for some reason. It seems I always glitch up the bouncy walls and go either flying off at a 90 degree angle, or go up and over it. -_-
Okay, I need direction to my two last Green Stars--star 1 in Boo Moon and star 2 in Shiverburn; the info for star 3 in Shiverburn would be nice, too, actually.

Thanks in advance.
