The Title is Irrelevant (absolutely nothing - January 5)

But in this case, it's actually quite relevant.

That's right. The hack that about zero people have been waiting for has arrived. Or at least some of it.

and enjoy.

Comments and criticism encouraged.

This may or may not be turned into a progress thread in the future.

EDIT: I can't believe I almost forgot this.

Put it somewhere. You could also link it to this thread if you wanted to.
May we meet again outside the battlefield.
Very nice vanilla hack here, but there's a small problem in Door-to-Door Rush: If you take the key to the goal orb, when Mario lets go of it to do his walk, he gets shoved into the wall and dies. You might want to fix that.
Good fucking bye.
nice, i like the palettes of this hack. and the design looks solid and fun, i'll make sure to play it.

I liked this hack a lot - fun level designs with some creative ideas - I personally liked the sandstorm level a lot. The V-Flip level has been done before but always seems to be done well (as is the case here). I haven't played all of it but I have a couple thoughts.

1. Some of the flying hammer bros disappeared during the sandstorm level. You may want to adjust your sprite memory settings or apply the no sprite limits patch.

2. I'm not one of those people who dry heaves every time I hear the original SMW soundtrack but I think you used the original theme too much. I think if you used the Athletic track in for the Door-to-Door rush and Sandstorm level, it could be more fitting and add a variety of music.

3. There was a spot in the second level where it game me a fireflower with a one-block gap between the used ? block and the ceiling. Getting it caused me to get stuck in the wall. You'll want to add a little more space.

4. I am sick and tired of getting those stupid health and safety warnings with DS games so I kudos on your readme name.
I love this hack so much Forty2. The title is great too. Heh.
I'm around half done moderating it, and I've had a load of fun playing so far.
Yes there are some errors and stuff, but nothing game-breaking or rejection worthy.
Expect me to be done moderation by tomorrow-ish.

I am. For the final version/next demo... I would love some custom music.
I had to play the ASMT/BSB soundtracks while moderated because I couldn't handle it.

The light humor in the game is a nice touch, by the way.

Oh. I should probably post here what with me being the tester and all.

Well then. I really liked this hack. I haven't been interested in anything related to Super Mario World much at all recently, and this hack made me like it quite a lot again. I had a lot of fun playing it and the levels were very well designed. Two favourites in particular are "Descent" and "Y-Flip Fortress". Those were very well done. Just about all of the palettes were also very aesthetically pleasing.

As a final note, while I have nothing against the original soundtrack, I agree with Kristian that hearing some custom music in the next release would be nice.
Thanks for the feedback guys.

It's not that likely would someone would take the key with them after passing the keyhole, but I'll probably fix that anyway.

Yeah, I came across that while testing it myself, I must not have remembered to fix that.

In my own opinion, I didn't really find that the athletic theme exactly fitted in the levels, but you're probably right.

I'm not sure why I didn't do that in the first place.

Cool. Feel free to point out those errors in this thread when you're done.

I might add in some custom music in the final release, but it's highly unlikely that there will be any custom music in any further demos. I'd like to get the levels done first, before I deal with things unfamiliar to me.

Might have an update in a week or so.

EDIT: Since I can't doublepost, I'll just mention that a minor fix version was just put up. Probably not everything wrong with the hack is fixed, but it's still an improvement.
May we meet again outside the battlefield.

This was in Brown Caverns after the midway point.
That and a few other things will be fixed in the next fix patch I make. Thanks for pointing it out.

EDIT: Yeah, v0.12 is up now.
May we meet again outside the battlefield.
Sweete! I'll spend the next hour for it .. looks really good .. like this vanilla-ish style.
The palettes and the title screen of your hack are awesome. With some custom music, it'll be one of the best almost-vanilla hacks in my opinion.
Now I need to change my old avatar. Or not.
Just played it. AWESOME!

Glad to see you made a ha... awww, it's a vanilla hack! </dissapoint>
ignore that.

I'll play this, because i always wanted to see some australian's hack, and this one is a must for me.
i just lurk sometimes
I never really play vanilla-ish hacks. But this one.. it's graphics and palette looks solid. And looking at the screenshots makes me want to play this. Nice job and good luck in your hack.
Oh I have 200th post!

Anyways, look good! But are some parts that need more things!

Your hack as been accepted and I have to play it!

From the screenshots, the hack looks really fun, but custom music should be in the final version. I don't do demo's much, as I look forward to the final level the most, so... I will just wait till then. In any case, I will definatly watch this hack on progress to see what comes out of it. ;)
Your layout has been removed.
When you die in The Sandstorm and restart from the midway-point, the BG sand doesn't scroll. You need to add the fast moving BG generator there too to fix this.

I saw this on Megafonzie's stream, and I found this hack to be rather good. One of the best parts were some of the palettes used. The level design was quite tricky, as I had seen.

Hey, it seems I've been promoting the hack through the userbar in my signature without even knowing it.

Anyway, I played this yesterday, and I have to say it was great. There were a few instances of sprite memory and other problems, but I had so much fun playing every single level that I really didn't care.

I do have to say something, though. I really don't like that the dirt in the sandstorm level is made of cutoff dirt tiles.
