General Mario Games Thread

@above: Agreed... Oh, yeah. I forgot to check the damn mail they sent...

Holy shit. Rolling Coaster's Purple Coin mission was simply agonizing. I lost count how many times I died, but it had to be at least 30. I pretty much mastered the first couple of sections of the galaxy, but toward the middle and end of it is where it really hit me hard. The most common place I messed up was that one curved path. I'd either miss the coins or fall to my death.

Well, glad that one's out of the way. Current star count is now 109. Only one more star to unlock the next galaxy in World S.
You're gonna hate the next galaxy, it's a remake of that cylinder thing in the first Super Mario Galaxy that had all those thwomps and other enemies moving fast but now there's silver stars which don't add to the fun of dying at all.
Argh... 118 stars...

The only 'regular' level stars I have left are the Clockwork Ruins comet, the Slimy Spring comet, and the Boss blitz comet.

What is this, three days of play and 120 stars? Either I'm a video game addict or this game is rather easy. (Hint: it's definitely not the second one)

EDIT: Okay, apparently Slimy spring has no comet.

\(_^^)/

Luckily I already beat the main level in that galaxy, but not the Comet Mission.

Now at 111 stars. Finally unlocked Flip Out Galaxy. Cool level. It took me a while to figure out how to get up the final wall before the star. I have no idea how to get the Comet Medal.
I have 146 stars in total, now. I'm picking away at the Green Stars in no real order, revisiting my favourite galaxies.

For some reason, I really liked Slimy Spring Galaxy. The music was soothing, and the end area with the Toad was actually quite beautiful.

IIRC, it's in one of the alcoves during the second spike section (after the last flag). Just spin and wall kick upwards.

Either that, or it's above that alcove, in which you go all the way to the right and long jump over the top.

I know one of those is a 1-up, and the other is the CM, but I'm not sure which is which.
All you do is go as far right as possible until you reach the end of the spikes and go up to two walls, now make sure the red platforms are out and long jump as far left as possible and then spin so you can just make it far enough to reach the blue platform and then long jump to the other blue platform.

Oh wow. I had a feeling a long jump was required somewhere. Didn't think it'd have to be from that far.
Uuse Luigi. He makes that galaxy much easier. Actually, he makes a lot of jumping and wall-kicking galaxies easier.

Oh yeah. Although, I didn't see him in that galaxy. Is there a specific way to make him appear? I've just noticed he shows up in random galaxies.
There's a door on the faceship that has an L on it and if you go inside you become Luigi and go anywhere as him, you can go through it again to become Mario.
Really? SHOW ME PROOF. I need to see a video OR screenshot of the
door with an L on the faceship. I have never seen that door. How many stars do you need to see it?
This is not my video it's just some guys 10 minute video. Skip to 4:42 on the video to see the L on the faceship.

You unlock Luigi indefinitly... I think it's either after 30 stars or after you beat the game. The L door is either right in front of the wheel or right behind it...

I just beat the Boomsday Machine... and it was perhaps the greatest boss evar. Seriously, someone deserves some sort of award just for that one boss.

After you beat the game.

Anyhow, I got Star #242. Once I got a good idea of what path to take in the Hammer Bro section, I was fine. The ending was way too anticlimactic, though.
I just got it, and I'm having tons of fun. I don't know what you people are talking about when you say difficult though, I only died a few times and I have 50+ lives. I just beat the first galaxy, btw.

Well...it does get harder past the first galaxy.

While I don't consider the "main" part of the game to be too difficult, some of the Comet Missions are insanely tough.
When will Nintendo realize that a good "final" bonus is just a freaking impossible secret final boss? I mean, seriously. A lot of good RPGs have that. FF7... SMRPG, PM2. Why not platformer Mario games???
