SMWC Idol, 2!: It's over already?!

Does no one compose music? According to Counterfeit's site, only two songs have been put in for round 2, and one of them is mine.

I hope round 2 isn't declared invalid due to lack of participation.
Oh, I know more than 2 people are going to participate in round 2, don't you worry, as composing is pretty time consuming (at least for me, since I'm not quite used to it).
In round 6 :
Are we supposed to let it sound like the original one (8-bit)
Or make it sound more modern?(16-bit?)

@Camerin Neede:
No offending, but i bet S.N.N. is gonna kick your ass.
Your layout has been removed.

i re-join round 2.

I might put some sort of signature here once. I guess.
btw, since others got an extra week for round 2, does that mean round 3 is gonna be submitted this week or next week?
Can people please refrain from telling me that my ass is going to be kicked? I know full well who the better porters and composers are around here, believe it or not.

...No offense.

@Above: the third round will commence when Atma tells us it will. Just sit tight and wait.

i think youl do just fine, i mean i dont even have 1 thing aside from a block submitted to this site, while you have more experience. so dont worry yourself.
Let's hope so.

Also, JeRRy86, I don't know if you're allowed to put your round 2 compositions on display. The judges were trying to keep things anonymous.

...Despite that, I really liked your song!
nothing saying you cant show off your stuff.
though its best to temporarily get rid of the link and send it to ounterfeit
Round 6 is supposed to sound like a 16 bit version of an 8-bit song.

Round 3 will be submitted next week.

Finally, feel free to show off your stuff in the thread AS LONG AS YOU MARK IT AS SUCH. I don't want hear what you've done till the very end.
Ah.

In that case, this is what I'm planning to submit for round 3, and this is what's in for round 2.

Enjoy!
ok atma and lol, your english suddenly got bad.
since looping is all i gotta do for round 3, i guess ill just leave it be and make something new to showoff :3
Got too busy with SMWCP, so I won't even have time to submit anything for round 3. I'm looking forward to seeing what people came up with though.

I have a few ideas for round 3 though. That sample bank Atma gave happens to be perfect for a song I've wanted to port for a long time .. heh ...
now im curious, what did you have in mind? mines being a pain because of looping.
...But yours will be worth it because it sounds so good.

That sample bank has an excellent high-octave piano and good strings, and even a passable distortion guitar! Does part of the bank come from Yoshi's Island samples?
I recognize the piano from Secret of Mana. I believe there is an orchestra hit and guitar in there from Mega Man X. I haven't looked at the other samples enough to determine where they are from, though.
round 3 is the one i think ill do better in then any other :3
Um...is there a mistake? I don't see the sample bank linked anywhere, yet people are commenting on it.

its linked on page 5, and on the smwi site. also linked on page and 5
Huh. I could swear i checked the SMWCI site several times and didn't see it. And...whatever page it would be for me, it wouldn't be page 5. For me, the thread has only 4 pages right now.

As for the sample bank itself, hm. I take it @7, @12, @13, @14, @15, @16, and @17, or samples 09, 0C, 0D, 10, 11, and 12, are the ones that have been replaced?

For reference, here is what the new samples are (or seem to be):

@7 - piano (rather pizzicato)
@12 - choir
@13 - Not really sure. Some rough, low instrument.
@14 - trumpet
@15 - Strong strings of some kind. (Orchestra? Sounds best at o5 and pretty crappy any lower than o4, in my opinion.)
@16 - Exactly the same as @13.
@17 - Mega Man X guitar.

I put together a little sound-test .txt for testing both sample banks and original SMW instruments. And yes, okay, some of my descriptions leave a bit to be desired, and the only one I actually recognized was the distortion guitar. But it should at least give you an idea.

Oh, and just out of curiosity, why weren't any of the percussion samples replaced? I mean, I'm not a die-hard porter, certainly, but I can use most of SMW's instruments well enough for most songs...however, I have to agree with the majority that the percussion isn't all that great. You can disguise a lot of the other instruments with enough N-SPC, but you can't do that with the percussion.
