[SUGGESTION] Auto-Merge

Would it be possible for if you double post (By accident, or on purpose), that the two posts would auto-merge together and still display the "NEW" thing? It would be nice because (Since I really hate double posting) when my ROM-hack thread goes unnoticed for a while, (even after I "EDIT") it goes to the point where it is back one page, and no-one will ever see it, so I am unable to get any feedback on the latest level(s)/OW/and other stuff. I have a few choices;
A) I double-post, I will hate myself, and the next fifty posts will be people hating the fact that I double-posted, but at least I have the new information up;
B) I create a new thread, but people will hate me for creating identical threads and it will probably be closed soon anyway;
C) I work quietly, not noticing the obvious (but somehow un-noticed) cutoff/linear-ness/bad palette, and when it is released, it gets instantly deleted, making my reputation even worse.

If we had the auto-merge, I would be able to just choose A) with the consequences lessened. But there should be a 1-Day/Week rule on this, meaning that you must wait a Day/Week or [Insert thing that a mod will do here] after a warning or two

Thank you for reading my un-necessarily long post

Just do A. There's nothing wrong with double posting in your own hack thread, as long as you have updates, not just saying, "Hey people say something."

Having auto-merge would have many complications, anyways. What if you post, someone else, posts, you post again, and they delete their post? You would have a merged post of you responding to nothing. If you had a whole post responding to nothing, most people would realize that someone deleted their post.
Delete the old post and make a new one with old content + new.
Just double-post.

Well, if the site's creator is saying it's fine, what do you have to worry about?

We frown upon it, but it's not like it's a problem.

Why not just copy -> paste into your edited original post and delete the other one?

You're missing the point. (Pasting the new information into the old post and deleting the double post that you copied from does not keep it new) He wants it so the thread is marked new without double posting, hence the auto-merging suggestion.
In which case:

would be ideal since you still get the new content symbol but without a double post.

But hey, I don't see what's wrong with double posting in the first place. If people think you're an idiot for doing it then they're idiots themselves.
Deleting the old post is completely pointless as all posts are stored somewhere anyway. It is with double-posting exactly as with bumping. Generally, you shouldn't do it, but if you are providing new content to a thread for people to see, don't hesitate.
