General Mario Games Thread

I've unlocked luigi as a playable character. :3 I have gotten all of the comet medals so far as well, and once you get to world 3 thats when the comet challenges start popping up. Oh god the purple coins of flip swap galaxy is a pain in the ass. I haven't beat it yet.
I didn't particularly like the purple coin challenges of the first SMG, I didn't even finish of all of them. I found them a bit tedious and not very fun. I remember Dreadnought's purple coin mission was a pain in the ass. I came very close to beating it several times, but as far as I remember, I didn't.

I can only imagine what the purple coin missions are like in SMG2, especially in Flip Swap Galaxy. That was tricky enough on its own.

Anyway, I'm now about 18 stars in. I think I'm closing in on Luigi.

Minor spoilers:

It's timed. And it still has all the chomps. I finished it with about 10 seconds left.

One thing that's great about the purple coin challenges this time, though, is that the timer stops when you get the last coin, so there are no more races to get the star with 2 seconds left on the clock.
I should get a new layout.

Probably won't, though.
Now I'm at World 4 with 35-38 stars! I'm SOOO good at SMG2!!
I'm done with the 120 stars, and I must say that as a quite experienced player, am disappoint with the difficulty :/

No, seriously, the final boss ALMOST felt like it was hard. I didn't die at all. And I don't remember a lot of stars or boss that did take me a while to beat. It's definitely not the hardest boss in the whole game.

The final galaxy had me die many times, but that's because I was trying to figure a way to attain the final coin (I managed to get it with Mario and a very close-call long jump).
The wall jumping + spin wasn't all that hard either.

Retro Mario was a throw back from SMG, but its comet was tough. I must've died like 6 times or something.

I must say I'm a little disappointed too about the green stars. They're barely any fun at all :/

Aside of my few complaints (which don't overshadow my affection towards this game), did anyone notice how the song from the Lava-thing galaxy sound really like one of those popular songs that I don't know the name of?

Agreed. In the three times I've beaten SMG (twice with Mario, once with Luigi), that star was always one of the last I collected. It's right up there with Melty Molten's Daredevil run. *shudder*

Anyway, I haven't made much progress today. I've only just begun World 3, but I'll probably head back for the Comet Medal in Wild Glide before going any further.

Beat World 2. I really liked the boss battle with Bowser. The setting was great and it was just the right difficulty, plus it differed from the repetitive Bowser fights from SMG. I loved how this world introduced new and old powerups and based levels around them. If I had one complaint about World 2, it'd be the water level. I never really liked the water levels from the original, as I feel the controls are frustrating and it's hard to get Mario to swim in the exact direction you want to go.

From what I could see, I collected all the available stars in each galaxy, but I've only received the "Galaxy Complete" message on a couple of them. I'm assuming there are Comet missions that pop up at a later time.

A Mario game gets its rightful score for once.

Hey guys, just finished SMG2 with 71 stars. But I was REAL disappointed with the final boss! I mean... He was too easy. Will there be anything harder than hard at World S? I haven't had the time to play it because my mom wanted watch TV. Fuck. #w{:s}

But yeah. Real disappointment. Wouldn't wanna say anything else than that. 'Cause it'll spoil it for some. :C
Nothing to put here at the time being.
Thanks to Tom Servo for the awesome new layout!
I have to ask...though I may embarrass myself in doing so.

After playing a lot of gravity-switching galaxies, does anyone else feel mildly seasick?

Damn, that sucks. I hope it's at least better than the final boss of the original SMG.

As for World S, no idea, I'm only on World 3. I hope it's a truly challenging special world this time around, unlike World 9 of NSMB Wii.

Can't say I have. Although, I've only come across one of these galaxies so far. That was a pretty enjoyable one.
???
Ive seen the last boss and to be honest it is better than SMG1 boss but I dont think it looks easy....
@1updudes: WTF?! You're there and you just look at immense spoilers >_< But really, the last bit to the final boss is just absolutely fail-safe. I did it twice (when I got 120 stars) and neither time did I lose health :/

But to say stuff about the green stars without actually spoiling anything, I've tried the latest ones. Some of them are clever. They're not easy to attain. The 3rd-last level's first green star is almost impossible to me. I've died LOTS of times attempting to reach it. But I'm pretty sure I know how to get it though. I know how, but I can't right now. I'm not going to say more to let the cleverness come to you ;)

EDIT: Besides, I've remembered: Melty Monster Galaxy's music sounds just like Kill Bill's main theme :D

Tama Yoshi, how did you beat the WHOLE game so quickly? It's been out only 3 days now. I'm STILL at World 4. Now I have 38 stars. I really thought I was ahead of everyone! Oh, the boss of the Snowy galaxy in W3, that was easy, considering you had to spin attack on the red nose 3X.
Well, I'm moving along quite nicely. I'm currently at world 4 with 48 stars. So far, my favorite galaxy was the one where everything is super sized (I forget the name).
@SMLink64: Tama Yoshi probably has a lot more free time on his hands. I can easily beat a world within a couple of hours, meaning it's completely feasible to beat the game in only a few days' time if you have enough free time.

Anyway, I've finished World 3, and I must say, Megahammer was fun to battle. It's sort of hard to hit him in his second phase, but still, I enjoyed that battle. I'm now starting World 4, but I only have 30 stars right now...

@Adam: That would be Supermassive Galaxy.

I'm very glad that I've only encountered one ball-rolling galaxy, as I can't stand those. Of course, I can't stand this one, either, especially since I now have to beat it in 1:35 to get the Speedy Comet Star.
I feel as if I've played this game forever, yet I only have 37 stars as of now. :S
Argh, it appears that there is some sort of actual "hard" way around to get the first green star in stone cyclone. Though I'm pretty confident my technique would make it MUCH easier...

I heard there was 242 stars! ... ... Seriously, what I've read about the last 2 stars is freaking creeping me out. Supposedly the freaking hardest stars ever.

I'm now about 32 stars in. Finally, some Prankster Comets appeared, and I did a few. The one with the Shadow Marios chasing you in Cloudy Court Galaxy was easy. So was the purple coin challenge with the Shadow Marios in Puzzle Plank Galaxy, although I know they'll get much harder later on. The hardest Prankster Comet mission so far for me was the Spiny killing challenge in Yoshi Star Galaxy. It seems easy, but if you're not going fast enough, or if you're too fast, you could miss a Spiny. I had to use a bit of trial and error before finding the best route to kill all of them in the fastest time.

I lost a shitload of lives on the slide level in Tall Trunk Galaxy. Slides have always been my weak point.

On another note, finally unlocked Luigi. Is there some sort of special purpose to using him, other than from what I noticed, he has worse traction than Mario?
