General Mario Games Thread

I got it now! I've got 2 stars now. Yoshi's a good addition to the game
and I just deciced to take a break and tell you guys! I'VE GOT SMG2!!!!!!! Its fun!! 1UPdudes, when June 11th comes and you play it, tell us how good it is!!
Picked up SMG2. Three stars in. Can't complain about anything so far, everything works pretty well in this game. Yoshi controls quite well, I love licking up everything in the level. Also found all the Comet Medals so far. I like the idea of bonus items to find in levels.

Basically this. I am a bit surprised how much fun the game is! I havent gotten the 3rd star yet, but eh.
Flip Swap Galaxy exudes seven flavors of awesome.

The remote shaking gimmick worked exceptionally well. It was really challenging to trigger panels back and forth for Mario to walk on. In fact, it was so challenging, I lost over 10 lives. Finally, a difficult platformer. #w{=)}

A couple of those lives I lost were a result of me accidentally shaking the remote and falling to my death.
I went to get SMG2 today...and they were out of stock!

...Just kidding. The store had an entire rack, nine six or seven shelves high, with SMG2 copies stacked and layered. Suffice it to say, they had a copy for me!

The game--or what I have played of it--is phenomenal. I haven't yet passed world 1, due to a desire to make the game last, but what I've seen is just incredible. The controls for both Mario and Yoshi are smooth, the graphics are crisp, the music is stirring...it's indescribable. Of course, the story is just as shallow as we were told, but who cares? Had I wanted an RPG game, I would have picked up the newest Final Fantasy.

Those of you who haven't seen it should look at the dark predictions I made in my MG2 discussion thread. Well, I've never been happier and less hesitant to admit that I was dead wrong! SMG2 is going to be a masterpiece.

Edit#1: Ninja'd by Jacob.
Edit#2: Flip-Swap Galaxy was probably the hardest galaxy in the first world. If you have an itchy nose/other part of your body, scratch it thoroughly or use a numbing agent, because I lost about four lives by accident.
Edit#3: Why is it popular to tell people when you've been ninja'd?
I'm really liking how much variety these levels have. I haven't even beaten world 1 yet, but I'm quite impressed with the new features every level seems to introduce, including the Spin Drill and Yoshi. I'm also happy Yoshi seems to be of greater use in this game than in NSMB Wii, where he was just a tacked on fan-service. Yoshi is integral to beating the levels, as well as fighting bosses. Cool stuff.
You guys died on the flip-swap galaxy so many times. I only died there twice. Is it really that hard? It seemed easy to me.
Good for you. I just found it a bit more challenging than you did...so what?
I died in Flip-Swap Galaxy abou 15 times...I really hate those Chomps that come out of the black holes. I got hit a few times. I had trouble with the Lakitu boss in Yoshi Star Galaxy. Died about 3 times on that one. I'm now at World 2 with 9 power stars. I just got the 1st
one in Puzzle Plank. The boss was easy because it was in the original.
Ninja'd. JACOB!!!!!!!
#w{>=(}
Most of my deaths are from not being used to controlling Yoshi. I go to jump over a hole and hover, but don't make it over.

I've got 3 stars so far and plan to take my time with this game for once.

Didn't mean to sound arrogant there. If I did, I'm sorry.

Anyways, the game is really starting to pick up in difficulty, as I find mario's water levels a bit tricky to maneuver around in, and some others have some interesting puzzles.
I am falling in love with this game's music, one song at a time. The World 1 Bowser level is particularly endearing, and I'll be porting it before too long.

Also, that Gobblegut boss was very hard. The pre-game footage made it look so easy, but I died several times--even with a Life Shroom. I don't know why, but the boss reminded me of Volvagia from OoT.
Yes, I have it too. I'm a little further (just reached world 3). The game is AWESOME.

The music is awesome. Not just SMG great, but awesome. The nostalgia songs such as SMW's athletic or the re-remixed N64 koopa's road, or the mario base's song... Yes.

The bosses, surprisingly, are FUN. They don't die too fast. I've almost died against one, I used every single coins I could get before I landed the last blow >_> But even though I didn't die, I felt accomplished.

Also, the flipping level. Well, it happens that a friend of mine was home when I got there, so we were 2 players. Or more one player and an interactively gimmicked. I was the second player, my less-good friend managed to die... I think 3 times. I froze the chomp balls to make it easier. But the stupid part is that I once froze the chomp balls right in the middle of the path. He asked me to unfreeze the chomp... But as the chomp unfroze, it curved around the corner and knocked my friend dead. I was all "I KNEW that would happen!!! But YOU asked me to >:("
Our world will stop advancing once humans manage to create sufficient magnificence for a whole lifetime. Until then, I just create.
Awesome video game music on my youtube channel
I also have Super Mario Galaxy 2, and so far, I'm loving it!

I've just finished World 1. Only lost a few lives - two or three in Flip-Swap Galaxy (Rolling Chomps are evil...), and one in an insanely stupid way right before fighting (Lakithunder?). All in all, I think it's a great game so far.

There are quite a few more bosses, I've noticed. And the 3-hit system has been thrown out the window, as some bosses take 4 or 5 hits to kill.

A smile spread across my face when I glimpsed 3-D Hammer Bros.

At the time of this post, I have 21 stars...but I know these are the easy ones. The game is already getting harder, and I'm doing more.

Yes, I lost a couple of lives with that boss. The first phase of the boss wasn't too bad, but that second phase really picked up in difficulty. Hitting its bumps became really hard, considering you only had a second's time to hit each one, and he was constantly chasing you.

One world beaten. I like.

I was actually really lucky, when I realized the chomps don't roll straight, one hit me across the cornet of one platform to another.

But then I died on the final jump through the electricity because I forgot you could adjust the camera. D:
To those who've made it to the third world: I found that ice boss to be awfully difficult, and I suggest you take a few extra 1-Ups.

Also, the slide in the third world will forever be under the gaze of Cosmic Rosalina; I died a lot, but I didn't take the easy way out.

Still an amazing game. If you're looking for a good Mario adventure game, buy SMG2.
I'm still in World 2, just found the Rock Mushroom for the first time. That Rollodillo boss was a bit tricky, but luckily I beat it after just a couple of tries, with one life to spare.

I also went back to World 1 to do that special enemy stomping mission with the chimp. Another thing that took a few tries.

As for Comet Medals, I collected all of the ones available so far. Hopefully whatever they unlock will be worth it.
I have all but one of the Comet Medals so far, and I just finished World 2. Wild Glide Galaxy went so fast and crazily that I never even saw it. I have some searching to do...
