If you're too late, it's like this in our school:
1st time : none
2nd time : none
3rd time : 30 mins
4th time : 1 hour
5th time : 2 hours
6th time : 3 hours
7th time : 4 hours
8th time : 5 hours
9th time : a thing called 'blokrooster'. Basically you have to go to school from 8.00 until 16.30 every day of the week, for 1 week.
...and after that, I don't know. They never told me.
Mind if I feel jealous?
1st time : none
2nd time : 30 mins before school
3rd time : 90 mins, 3x30 before school. Parents contacted.
4th time : 150 mins, 5x30 before school
5th time : 'blokrooster'
6th time : 2x'blokrooster'. Parents contacted. School counselor contacted.
7th time : Somewhere here they give up. 'blokrooster', recontacted counselor.
8th time: serious problems.
'Blokrooster' in my school is a little different, as regular days are from 8.15 until 16.35. Blokrooster therefore is 7.45 until 17.30 for a week.
The only flaw in the system is that you can easily bail out of the 2nd, 4th and occasionally 3rd time. Administration is as lazy as the students, and often forgets to phone the parents.
Also the counting resets twice every year. I managed to get 3rd time (who wouldn't) but bailed. Never heard anything of it afterwards.
Edit: I forgot to mention we have quite a few of kind teachers, who think these punishments are seriously too harsh and decide not to inform the school of students who show up late as countermeasures. That helps.
Also; for those who do not speak Dutch: 'Blokrooster' can be loosely translated to 'Square Schedule'.
Of course you should fight fire with fire, you should fight everything with fire.
