Yu-gi-oh (all series.)

I saw no tread about yu-gi-oh in here so I decided to start one.

Yu-gi-oh is anime where the characters face each other in a card game where they can summon monsters, use spells and activate traps. However, some of these cards have ancien magical powers like the egypcian gods.

There are 3 series of yu-gi-oh:

-Yu-gi-oh that tells of the story of an egypcian pharaoh named Atem who was awaken after 5000 years of slumber. Now he's up to fight against the forces of evil, but his main goal is to get his memory back.

-Yu-gi-oh Gx is about a guy named Judai Yuki (Jaden in the english version) and his friends who study at the duel academy where they fight the evil forces they encounter like the light of destruccion or the shadow ridders.

-And finaly there is yu-gi-oh 5D's where the main character Yusei Fudo lives in a poor area named Satelyte City where everyone is treated like trash. However, Yusei and his friends will have to face the dark signers who try to take over the world.

The one I like the most is 5D's, becacause the story is more interesting, since yusei's fight is not only a fight against evil, but also a fight to be recognised and a rebelion against the power that opresses him and his friends.

So, what's your opinion about yu-gi-oh?

I got waay too much to say on this anime, so I can't possibly discuss my opinion on one post, but let's see if I can make a long opinion short.

Firstly, should we be discussing both Japanese and English versions of this anime?

(possible spoilers ahead)

The first Yu-Gi-Oh! series had everything good... ancient magic, 5000-year-old histories... But I personally thought the Orichalcos saga was a waste of time. What was the relevance of that?

I saw Yu-Gi-Oh! GX as the promise of a new generation, but then at the end of Season 3, we learn that Jaden Yuki is a descendant of some guy from ancient history. That ruined everything.

At least in Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's, nothing has been ruined as far as people being descendants and such. Rex Goodwin states that the ancient Signers were reincarnated as Yusei, Jack, Akiza, Luna, and Roman Goodwin, which is a fine line from being descendants, so I was okay with that. The Dark Signers arc was the best of all. Now the show is slowing to a crawl with the World Riding Grand Prix in session. Nothing's getting anywhere now.

I guess both are ok, as long as you mark the diference

Why? I liked it, the duels in that saga are pretty thought, and the vilian, dartz is verry powerfull, it's not the usual borring filler with weak enemies.

well in the japanese version they are not reincarnated, they are the signers because they where chosen by the dragons.

Either way, it hasn't ruined anything the way GX was regarding Jaden.

The first season of the original series was good. After that they started dragging out everything forever.
Tell me about it. Those bad guys just didn't shut up.

You mean the season with pegasus?

..I didn't realy liked that one, the rulles of the game where diferent at that time, and no tributes where required for Lv5+ monsters..and that makes the duels borring..
Yeah, all Duelist Kingdom did was play by field rules and such.

Wasn't that season started before the card game was? In any case, yeah, they didn't follow any actual rules, but frankly they've broken so many rules throughout the series for the sake of plot that it doesn't matter.
Just gonna get this out ahead of time.
IT'S TIME TO D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-DUEL!!!!!
*shot*

Anyway, like pretty much everyone, I watched the Yu-Gi-Oh anime as a young kid, but they've really ruined it now. I mean, dueling on motorcycles? What the hell...

That's exactly what I thought beafore watching 5d's but then I started watching it and I realy enjoyed it. Either watch the series first or keep your comments to yourself.

Mister aj6666, I must disagree with what you said. If the series went from Ancient Egyptian spirits to motercycles, I feel there is no reason to watch it. I may give it a try, but that's about as likely as me watching Twilight.
Actually, the first season of 5D's does eventually focus on a 5,000-year-old history, but it's more towards Inca civilization that Egyptian stuff. And then there's the Nazca lines...

Besides technology evolves, and so do the duel disks, instead just being something you put in your arm why not including them in motocycles?
Personaly, I liked all of yu-gi-oh series without a doubt. BUT I hate dubs.
they are like shit. First, false translation. Second, the story is not complete or some parts are missing. LIKE YU-GI-OH GX SEASON 4, YU-GI-OH 5D'S ARC KRADLE, YU-GI-OH ZEXAL BARIAN STUFFS, YU-GI-OH DUEL MONSTERS "THERE IS CUTSCENES AND MISUNDERSTANDING OF THE STORY

The first serie I watched was duel monsters : It was very with the seven millenium items, 3000 years old story (in the sub), the characters personality and how they are affecting the story : it was really cool.

I did not like yu-gi-oh! gx very much : there isn't much to tell. the only thing good there was how the decks are so powerful using fusion monsters but I didn't like the story.

yu-gi-oh! 5d's is one of the best yu-gi-oh series I've ever watched , it introduce new things : security, tops , commons. I liked the dark signers arc, It was really cool and also after that (when yusei united the satalite with new domino city to became one till the defeat of z-one).without forgetting the world racing grand prix arc, the difficulties that had the guys (yusei, jack, crow, aki).

yu-gi-oh zexal was the childless yu-gi-oh serie I've
ever seen also yuma's catchphrase : "KATTOGINGU-DA ORE". Seriously WTF yuma.

yu-gi-oh zexal II : I said in myself that is good thing ( It's still childless serie but the story was getting cool. The choc was that shark and rio are barians too). But it's not enough if it still childless.

right now I'm watching yu-gi-oh arc-v : If you didn't watch it yet, you lost the half of your life. I liked (like i liked yu-gi-oh 5d's) the story start a bit annoying but it is very good now (you know the first episodes are just introducing the characters, ...) so you have to be a little patient. that all.

I don't read manga.
that all. what do you think guys?
Watched it when it came on Kids WB, and more recently watched a lot of the first season on Netflix.
I've only watched the U.S. 4kids dub of the original series, and read a tiny bit of the manga. The Shadow Realm shoe-horning in Battle City was quite annoying, and the Virtual World arc was just tedious to sit through. Amusingly enough even Kaiba thought it was pointless when they continued the Battle City finals. For some reason it was advertised as Enter the Shadow Realm probably by the same people who put 'which of these Pokemon evolves into Seviper' as a Trainer's Choice question. The most egregious cases of Shadow Realm shoe-horning were the dark energy discs that were clearly buzzsaws, and the duel against Lumis and Umbra where they were clearly meant to fall to their death but no, kids are too young for that to be a thing, so they shoe-horn a portal to the Shadow Realm underneath the glass (it makes great snark bait and parody fuel, at least). Also, what's keeping the duelists from stepping away from the glass panels whenever? I'm kinda surprised the loser of the possessed Joey duel simply drowned instead of falling in the Shadow Realm water.
I only consistently watched up to the end of the Orichalchos arc. It really bugged me how Yami Yugi
would rather risk his own soul by playing the Seal of Orichalchos than lose a duel in which he would have had nothing to lose
in the duel against Raphael. As long as it causes a major conflict, right?
Sadly I haven't seen the final season (memory world). I am quite curious about it because I've heard about the
Yugi vs. Atem
duel being like the series equivalent of a video game final boss or something.
I haven't seen GX, 5D's, Zexal, or Arc V.

While I don't think the 4Kids dub helped anything, I honestly don't think the anime itself would be much better in its original form. It's slow and the premise is kind of ridiculous in that everything in their world seems to revolve around a simple card game. I have nostalgia for it, but I can't imagine trying to rewatch the anime today.
It makes sense, considering the card game is what created the universe!
