Alright guyz. It's time. It was suggested a long time that I make a video of a hack. BUT, the first part of the video will be an attempted play through of a kaizo hack, and the second part will be a TAS of it. You know, compare/contrast. But which Kaizo hack to do?

Who knows when I'll have
something to put here.

Credits go to Counterfeit for the bitchin' post layout.

@LegendaryMMAT: I've played your hack, and didn't really like it. The length of the levels was lacking, the switch palace was unedited, the screen wouldn't scroll properly... generally it wasn't fun.

Those muncher blocks are genius, they replace flunchers AND look nintendy-childish-like. As long as you don't stack and spam them (like you unfortunately did..) you are in the clear. But you just had to spam them.

The P-switch trap in the castle isn't fun, although it is pretty easy to figure out. Give players a hint of some sorts.

Well, I think that creates a decent impression. I must say it is really typical for a first hack, I might just for funzies release my first level ever made (reskinned, ofcourse). It's as bad as you'd expect (anybody who wishes to shout in my face for making a horrible level let me know, I might just actually release it).
Therefore I dislike releasing old (and bad) levels, like you said they are poorly designed. The graphics are neat, I might just steal them, but the levels are a waste of time. And as Kaizo is all about level design, this hack is horrible.
Of course you should fight fire with fire, you should fight everything with fire.

Oooh look at my userbar!

Well, I sit in one spot, set the rewind and savestate buttons to be EXTREMELY easy to use, and I endure all the pain I can, until I am done.

So what your saying is, my graphics are awesome, but the hack itself sucks. Yeah.
Well, it is based off of a sucky hack anyway... Hacks, rather. But I thought it was an actually GOOD remake. I am a really impatient Kaizo hacker, as you know, so I'll always make short hacks. The levels are more like trials than anything, you could say.
But at least you like the graphics, I worked pretty hard on a lot of stuff, and I'm most proud at the munchers and the phoenix feather.

So the final outcome of this hack, as I assume:
-Irritating at the first level, got easier
-Good graphics
-Boring gameplay
-Lack of effort
That tells me a lot, really. Custom graphics ARE better than ripped ones, so I'll use more of those; I need to use WAAAAAAY more effort in my hacks; I can actually make overworlds, but without events #w{:<}; I need to balance out the use of elements in the game, like death blocks and platforms.
I'm both happy and sad now... #w{:s}

I guess I can always stay a graphics designer?

@sym, actually, when the original game, SRW was being made, I didn't want that to happen, but it couldn't be helped. So I left it there.
Same here. So yeah, you were supposed to do off-screen jumps.

well, it can be helped, you can just make sure the stuff you make is actually on the screen.. very easy fix

it's not fun for the player if he has to blindly guess where to land

the user bar is nice, but he said he doesn't want specific categories, just one for contestant, and one for judges... and they should be similar with a distinct difference...

also, thanks for the naming help, have you beaten the whole thing so far? im almost done with the next part! xD

That sums it up pretty neatly, except that the graphics are more than just 'awesome'. I guess that wasn't too obvious from my previous post.
I think those muncher blocks blend in perfectly with the original mario, so long as they aren't stacked and spammed. Basically you've created something I could swear Nintendo would have.

@OGS93: Why not post that userbar in the thread for the submissions? Or did I go blind and is it in there...
Of course you should fight fire with fire, you should fight everything with fire.

Oooh look at my userbar!

Woah. I have no clue what to say, but I'm honored! The fact you say "awesome" is an understatement is amazing, but to say I'm Nintendo good, I can't believe it #w{:>}
So... what do I do now? Make a new level for the contest? I have no clue what category would suit me, so I have no clue.
Well, you could do a C.R.A.P. remake for the Difficult category, or invent something totally new.

I'd recommend changing C.R.A.P. a little, Ultimaxmus has (stupidly enough) said that double shelljumps are okay so I don't see any reason not to enter it (slightly modified, or perhaps not even).

@SoulJester726, to copy them #w{=P}

I could remake CRAP, but the only reason I did the remake for my older hack, SRW, was because, well, it's old. I'll make a new hack #w{:>}

EDIT: Why do I always get Ninji'd?

EDIT EDIT: Forget it, I'm remaking CRAP, I'm so lazy #w{=3}
@Souljester+LegendaryMMAT+OGS:

Occasionally you get a good idea by playing a different hack, that is essentially copying. But e.g. stealing the classic Kaizo Trap (death after finish tape, unless you activate blue POW) and placing it in an entirely different setting (A reverse Kaizo trap where you must be small for example) is creating a new trap yourself. Therefore playing other hacks for inspiration is a good thing, as long as you do not make a blatant edit of several other levels.

Also playing Kaizo for level design is a good idea, if you look at the big picture (like: create an impression of every screen and look at how they are arranged through the level, or look at the amount of side-paths and stuff like that).

Therefore playing levels for inspiration is different than copying.
