Swearing in hacks.

To me it can be excepted but can't be abused.Abused any swearing makes a person just looks dumb.I can understand when a person is mad,and want to use any word that might be able to express they're feelings of anger. Why should people be angry and politically correct?

What I'm saying is(to me) it's ok.Just give warnings to the more sensitive people or make a seperate "clean" version of patches and this whole thing could just be dropped.
If anyone needs help with custom Character GFX,PM me.
<Note> You will have to have a progress thread in order for me to work on GFX for you.No random requests.
Yes, the topic should be dropped. There has already been enough debate about it... and it seems to be that it might turn into post count soon enough. If people want to swear in thier hacks, then by all means do it. Those people just have these optional choices.

1. Make a clean version of the hack
2. Make a warning about
OR
3. Just don't do it at all.

And that makes things clear. If people want to swear, it's thier hack, thier game, thier choices. If people don't want to play a hack with swearing, then it is thier choice. There are plenty of other hacks out there, albiet some are very low qaulity.
If they wanna swear in their hacks, that's fine, just put a warning or give a "clean" version, as SCORPION said. I myself have no problem with it, as long as the character isn't just dropping the F-bomb every few seconds. If it's only once or twice in the game, and the character is REALLY angry... Yeah.
Good fucking bye.
And that's the case, so I think this discusion is done by now, hmm?

Why "Hooray!" >.>

Did you hate this topic or something? :O
Why don't you stop by my Youtube channel =)
IMO, unless the hack has a great in-depth storyline, a hack shouldn't have any swearing whatsoever. But if swearing were to be used, it shouldn't be overused because it would just ruin the hack and defeat the purpose of Mario games. But too little/not frequent just makes it stupid and pointless.

But generally overall, hacks shouldn't have swearing.

LOL! Well if I hated this topic, I wouldn't have replied so many times, you know?
I said "hooray" because I think we're done. It was a nice discussion, but it's pretty much over now. Hooray.

...The only thing more pointless than beating a dead horse is trying to ride it! :p

Other than that... it seems like this talk is done now. I seem to be under the impression that the swearing itself is mainly directed at Devious Four Mythos hacks, so if anybody wants to continue the conversation, please post so in the "Hunter and SCORPION Mythos" thread in the "Talk" section.

EDIT: Link to Hunter and SCORPION Mythos thread to continue debate about this if needed.
The thread can be closed when the detailed and insightful posts cease.

I feel it must be added that the fact that Mario does not swear, that Nintendo has set a standard that he does not swear, nor has a need to, is irrelevant. Nintendo's standards are nothing in creating our own games. We can choose to follow them, and have the same style that has been proven to be successful, or go with our own interpretation of Mario, unrestrained by the presence of children (Yes, there are children on the site, but adding a warning removes that restraint as it then becomes the child's responsibility to obey the warning). We should not be forced to obey Nintendo's standards. Though it is fair to criticize a hack for swearing, it is not fair to name it unacceptable and demand it be removed (I'm not saying anyone did this). *I* am hacking Mario, making my *own* game, I should be able to do what I want.

Though I may be criticized, I should be able to make Mario be a politician in Australia where he works with Count Bleck if I like, and not be restrained to Nintendo's standards of Bleck being the bad guy and Mario being a plumber from Brooklyn/Mushroom Kingdom.
Though I may be criticized, I should be able to make Mario swear (appropriately) to express his anger/frustration/character development, and not be restrained to Nintendo's standards of Mario being a nice guy and not uttering so much as the word "damn".

I must give my own opinions...
A good villain doesn't need to rely on swearing. What makes a great villian is someone that literally puts a chill in your back. The Phoenix Wright series had many people (Grant, Manfred, Daliah, etc) that put chills on my spine without ever spurring a curse word.
Overusing a curse word is more childish than anything. It is a difference if you say it accidently or on purpose.
Take movies for example. The Perfect Storm was pretty awful because it just randomly spurred curse words. However, Inglourious Basterds used the language to convey a humor with it. It wasn't just said at random....it generally was part of a good phrase.
So yeah, I have no issues with cursing...if used in a way that is tasteful. Throwing the words around doesn't make a great villain. A great villain can easily make you scared without saying much. Heck, Scar still is scary to me.
Working on something!

Better than the cape!

Just like in real life, swearing should only be used in moderation. If the hack is full of cursing at every moment, it'll be annoying. However, it's okay to use the occasional swear to add emphasis to a phrase if need be.
It really doesn't fit in a Mario game. And a villain doesn't need to swear to be cool, just only in a game like Resident Evil.
I no longer have interest in SMW Hacking as I did when I first started several years ago.
I agree with ultimaximus on the It's not theirs.

Though I agree with no excessive swearing like "**** YOU YOU MOTHER ****
**** SUCKER YOUR MOTHER SUCKS **** IN HELL AND I ******* HATE YOU YOU
***HOLE

The only time that should be done if it's a comedy based hack and the excessiveness is supposed to be a joke.

Well, what if someone make a hack that's like Resident Evil? You can't judge like that.

Anyway, the bottom line is that it's that person's hack, and they can do whatever they want in it.
The Legend of Randorland 3 - Randor's Eternal Empire, even that doesn't contain extremely coarse language, but words like bloody hell and the like are fairly acceptale for those group of hacks, but I agree, swearing in a hack is pointless.
That's a extreme reason why I refused to play Randorland 3. That's freaky profane. What the freak? JELLJELL1111 didn't care that I'm against the use of profanity. My YouTube channel should be child friendly, but some users didn't care. That's freaky stupid. What the heck?

Thinking about making a Rainbow Magic thread at the Media forum.
It depends on the use of it. If Bower's yelling "Fuck you you worn out sack of shit" it just sounds childish, but if something absolutely devastating happens, yelling "Damnit!" might seem appropriate.

As for the SCORPION Mythos, it has like nothing to do with the Mario Universe, so I'd say it's fine.

HOWEVER, when you have that much profanity, it still ends up childish.
