OW Palette Side [close]

How do you change what side of the palette each layer uses?

You can edit what color each tile uses in YY-CHR. However, the OverWorld generally dislikes using colors from the other side of the palette...

I'm trying to fix the palettes, layer one is using the wrong side of the palette.

Edit: I changed the colors, the in-editor colors changed, but in-game they're still messed up.

Click 'Save RBGs To ROM' in the palette editor and save. It saves the palette data to the ROM.

I didn't edit the palette, I edited which colors of the palette they use in YY-CHR (Yes, I am 100% sure I saved).

EDIT: You will have to recreate the palette swapping in the OW Palette Editor after you finish editing the GFX in YY-CHR. There is no way to import palettes YY-CHR saves into the OW Editor.

Ok, Could you tell me where the colors for the castle, pipe, and level tiles are?

Here are the layer 1 overworld palettes. The palettes in the red box are for the ghost houses, Yoshi's House (Also Yoshi's House's tree trunks), and the Vanilla Dome entrance door. The palettes in the green box are for the fortresses and warp pipes (Also the fortress' bushes at the bottom). The palettes in the yellow box I have no clue WTF they are.

Now I know for a fact they're using the wrong side of the palette, yours are identical to mine, but how am I supposed to fix it?

Wait wait wait. I think I know what's going on. In YY-CHR, the layer 1 tiles look like they're using the wrong side of the palette. Just change the palette in YY-CHR to match the other side and edit normally, when you reinsert, they will look fine. Here's a picture of it:

See what I did? I made the first half of the palette in YY-CHR look like the other half, now I can edit them normally without messing up the colors.

Do you mean replace the colors (using the button next to load emulator state)?

Let me try to explain this:

Layer 1 and layer 2 use different sides of the palette. You know this, right? The problem is, when viewing the GFX file in YY-CHR, both the layer 1 and layer 2 tiles use the exact same side of the palette: The left side. So, in order to make the layer 1 tiles look correctly in YY-CHR is to copy the palette from the right side and remake it on the left (this does NOT mean you should edit the colors in LM). To do this, simply right click on the color you want to copy, and memorize the RBG values it has. Then, right click on the color on the left side that corresponds to the color you are copying, and change the RBG values for that color to whatever you just memorized. That way, your layer 1 tiles will look right. Just remember, though, that you should NOT insert the palette into your ROM. Lunar Magic will automatically make the Layer 1 tiles use the right side of the palette.

I've gotten SO frustrated w/ this, I don't care it's been a little over a week since someone has posted here, I nearly trashed this hack permanently. Anyway, do you mean the top row only, or the whole big palette, if you mean the top, how am I supposed to copy that, I can't figure it out.

Edit: Damn it! No wonder it never worked, I was setting the submap to use the wrong GFX file!

Edit: Okay, that solved it, thanks everyone!
