What was the ASM file?

It can be a variety of things, like a patch, a custom block, or a custom sprite.

If it's a patch, you'll need Xkas to patch it, if it's a block, you can use Block Tool Super Deluxe to insert it, if it's a sprite, you can insert it using Sprite Tool.

Use xkas.

So use xkas. It's a patch.

Better yet, use Xkas GUI, because it's easy to use. Just sayin'.
I have no idea what to change my layout it to...

I have the conversation every time. :\ This is outdated, inefficient, and buggy. (with some features, if I recall?) It's twice as fast- and easy- to use regular xkas.
the original xkas is way to complex for me. and the gui one worked easy. thanks for the help.

I'm honestly not sure what you're talking about.

Xkas GUI is totally bugfree when it comes to patching. The only iffy part is the automatic freespace setting. It uses the version of Xkas reccomended by 97% of the population, .06.

And for the time part, not all of us are fast typers. Plus, if you want to use the command line, you have to navigate a while depending on your directory structure in order to get to cmd.exe and type out the whole thing.

Oh, and I'm glad that solved your problem, voltega.
Now with extra girl and extra hacker
I personally use a batch file. No typing involved -- just drag and drop.

EDIT: This one. Made by Aiyo.

yeah, this is the no-nonsense way of patching if 3 words in command line is too much. You can even automatically backup ROMs and automatically start emulators for quick debugging if needed.

You really should fix free space finding because it's the only tangible reason to use it over a batch file, even then I'd just homebrew a cmd line version that lets you get it all done easily as drag and drop if I were inserting.

.06 is technically outdated. I'll be a bit leaniant on that front because it's still usable; but there are advanced ASM that require later versions. That freespace is a pretty serious bug, however. I'm sure that'll screw several people up.

You don't have to be a fast typer; copy -> paste CMD, type "xkas asm.asm smw.smc."

I can see why you'd defend it; it's your program, after all, so do what you want, but it's less efficent (copy -> paste and then type a line, seriously, instead of the browse, open, save, and other general windows interface) and runs, bottom line, more bugs than regular xkas. Not to mention the benefits when you don't depend on a program that has to be updated to each update; you might as well use xkas and it's updates anyway.
Yeah uh here's how you patch a patch. Download xkas v0.6.
Extract the folder.
Open notepad and type in
xkas patchname.asm romname.smc
save it in the xkas folder as somename.bat
Put your rom and asm patch into the xkas folder.

Double click the somename.bat

Also if you want to patch more patches, you don't need to make more .bat files. Just edit the one you made but replace the names again. (Such as patchname.asm)
