Why do you like Hacking Super Mario World?

Link Thread Closed

I mean its so dumb
Why do you like it? What draws/drew you to it?

I personally like it because its so time consuming. Me still being in the learning phase, its not just hacking and hacking all day, which is still fun but for me its figuring things out and trying to make them work.

Romhacking keeps you busy (and is more fun[in my opionion]) when you have to insert custom blocks, set up map 16, and insert graphics before you actually get to the hacking part.

All in all i like it because it keeps me busy while being able to edit a truly awesome game

Yeah, so what if I haven't shoveled out my signature yet, I'll get to it later.

I dunno, I guess its the whole concept of "making a video game" that drew me in.

Something tells me that's going to be the answer for most of us (including me) :P
I just wanted to try something new.
I heard Lunar Magic
I thought it sounded cool
Poof, I'm here.

Hi! I'm dead!

I got bored with the same levels from SMW and wanted to make my own.

Me too.
I've always loved creating things, and video game levels are the epitome of that fascination.

Other Submissions of mine!

I like hacking SMW not for creating hacks, but for experimenting with the resources and physics available for use in hacks.

Well, I needed something different. Something that a lot of people (the ones who don't care, and I don't blame about that) won't ever see. And because I'm just a huge nerd about video games.

When I was younger, I always drew maps that had a concept of SMW, and I occasionally planned out levels when I had extra time. When I found custom levels made levels on Youtube, it inspired me to start making my own custom levels.
When I first started, it was the joy of creating my own game; I'd always wanted to make video games, and this seemed like a great and easy way to do it. This was pretty much the reason I liked hacking SMW all the way through Super Mario Infinity, and for Super Mario Infinity 2 it was pretty much a mixture of that and just obligation to finish what SMI1 started. Now, though, I enjoy SMW hacking not only for being able to create games, but also for the sheer possibilities of what it can do when combined with the other programs here and how those specific elements can make a great game. The satisfaction of hacking the game comes from knowing that it could be an amazing final product.
I've always wanted to make my own Mario games and it seems cool having people to play my own levels.
I'm another of those who aspire to become video game designers, and since hacking Super Mario World is like designing a video game, I was drawn in. Plus, it's another computer activity, and I love using computers. :D

I thought it would be nice to try and make my own levels as well with all the decoration to make the game feel better.
SMW was my first video game, so when my Snes crashed (about one year ago), I was very sad because I loved playing this game. It remembered me lots of souvenirs.
I started to search SMW videos on Youtube and I watched lots of videos, and one day, I saw a video of a custom level. When I read the description, the guy was talking about "hack". I was interested.
A few months later, I got a computer in my room.
I wanted further information about SMW hacking, so I searched.
I've known that SMW hacking was done with Lunar Magic. I downloaded it and started to look for tutorials.
After, I found the forum of Lunariville, a very nice community of french ROMhackers who learnt me lots of things.

6 months later, I'm here, working on a hack.

I started because I wanted to create my own Mario levels. So one day I searched up on Youtube "Custom Mario Levels" and there was one user who I thought was really great at it. His name was "TheNewerGuy". So I searched up around the internet and came across Lunar Magic. Anyways, the thrill of knowing someone is playing your level and actually enjoying it is a real nice experience. So to summarize I just wanted to make my own mario levels and have someone play it.

I've always wanted to make my own video game. But due to the resources of the time, it was (still is) too hard for me to make a video game. Lunar MAgic has opened door for me. I'm now practicing Level Design, making graphics, and other fundimental game design/game programming things. It's like, "Make a game with an already developed physics and such. Only YOU have to create the level, OW, etc."
When Yoshi dies too much, he'll come back to haunt you...

If you want to play any of my hacks, just PM me.
