Racing Stripe (New Stripe Image / Tilemap Editor)

What is Racing Stripe? Basically, it's a ZST tilemap editor with stripe image support. It's not really an alternative to Terra Stripe, because Terra Stripe deals with the SMW ROM, whereas Racing Stripe deals with ZSNES savestates.
Racing Stripe can help you: edit/make layer 3 BGs, rip FGs with my online BG Ripper, and many other things.

I coded Racing Stripe with LM in mind, in the way that it has a very LM-like interface. Editing a BG in Racing Stripe is almost just like editing a BG, the overworld, etc. in LM.

It does have a stripe image compression algorithm, but it's not quite as good as the one in Terra Stripe 1.1

EDIT: Version 1.0.1 is out, updated download link
EDIT2: had a few more bugs to fix, 1.0.2 is out
EDIT3: version 1.1.0 is out, with a few more features

Here are a few screenshots:

A few things to note:
With tilemaps larger than 512x512 (larger than 32x32, with 16x16 tiles), there may be some lag, depending on the speed of your computer.

Please report all glitches to me.
Does it use net. framework?
sweet can i put a fire decal on my rom

[/sarcasm]

What does it output? Raw stripe images? ZSTs?

If a raw stripe image, could I manually insert a layer 3 one into my hack, and load it with Terra Stripe?

it outputs stripe image files (.stim), raw tilemap files (.bin), and it can save the tilemap back to the ZST you opened.
Could you make it so I DON'T have to have net. framework?
Any reason you won't just get .net framework? Probably a lot more simple than making edit add compatibility with other stuff.

Anyway I love this thing. I was messing around with some save states and rearranging some tiles, it's really easy to use.

Great job, can't wait to try using it for SMW.
because I have to install it into my computer, and im notgoing to download it because I have no idea what it is.
It's a virus that will destroy your computer from the inside out, and release a deadly plague that will cover the earth in undeath.

Or it might just be some harmless .dll files.

For all you know we could be silently downloading viruses onto your computer right now that are sending viagra ads through your e-mail to small children all over the world and hacking into white house servers, which will soon result in your arrest by the FBI and subsequent imprisonment in a far off country.

Or maybe .NET is just a bunch of .dll files.
I request a tutorial on how to use all these layer 3 editors because there's like 4 of them now and its so confusing with very vauge into in the readmes >.>
So wait, this makes layer 3 files for use with terra stripe? Such as layer 3 BG?

I just updated the download link with version 1.0.1. This version includes a few updates:
- Added Alt menu shortcuts
- Decreased the lag that occurs with large tilemaps
- Decreased the lag that occurs with the grid
- Made all windows show up in the taskbar in case you lose them
- You can open a ZST by dragging it over the exe
Ignoring all the useful purposes of the program (such as ripping tilemaps etc.), why would anyone ever want to edit savestates?
1. so you can tweak BGs before ripping them with my online BG ripping tool

2. to copy+paste multiple parts of a FG into one tilemap because some people like to rip FGs with my BG ripper (including me :P)

...because my BG tool rips from savestates (well, it can also rip from PNGs, but you lose the ability to have more than one palette)
Also a nice feature which everyone seems to neglect is that this tool has support for multiple background modes here. Nice job with this tool, as I said earlier.
--------> Don't follow "Find Roy's Dignity", my hack. Because it's pretty outdated. <--------
argh, had a few more bugs to fix that I overlooked. I just released 1.0.2

EDIT: argh, forgot to switch the "Edit" and "View" menus back after I accidentally reversed them.
This looks pretty useful.

I 'otta use this sometime.
ehh, quasi-bump, not really, the thread was less than 2 weeks old, and I'd rather not make another one for just a small release

I just updated the download link in the first post with version 1.1.0, and put it in this post as well
Here's the download link: http://bin.smwcentral.net/7481/RacingStripe110.zip

This version includes a few new features:
Version 1.1.0 December 23, 2009
- Tile selector and dialogs minimize, focus, etc. along the main window, and always appear above it
- Tile selector and dialogs no longer show up in taskbar (not necessary anymore)
- Fixed Offset-Tiles wrap-around glitch
- Swapped the View and Edit menus, because I accidentally switched them in 1.0.1
- Fixed minor glitch involving default blank tile replacement values when saving tilemaps
- Added Export Image feature
- Improved ZSNES savestate file filter. Removed option for showing 0-9 only as it's no longer necessary
- Added About section (Help > About)
- Added option to automatically resize the window when loading a new tilemap or changing the tilemap size
- Added Alt shortcuts for priority view options
- Fixed small bug involving the Remember checkbox in Stripe and ZST save dialogs being checked when not supposed to be
- Added Save to New ZST option (copies the currently-open ZST to a new file and saves the tilemap there)
Wow, this tool is a must-try-out. It makes things such as Layer 3 BGs easy to extract and insert with TS for SMW. Here's a sample:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Q-RJHrctpwg&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Q-RJHrctpwg&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Thanks edit.
Sorry for the bump, but after being done editing my Overworld Border.

How do i install this into my rom?
