The Hack Removal Log

On the seventh day of Heavy Metal Christmas, the hack queue sent to me,
Seven empty scrollers,
Six unchanged levels,
Five stacked Munchers,
Four trapped Koopas,
Three Kaizo ripoffs,
Two annoying dick moves,
and a bad patch, blatant and glaring!

Name: SMW 2 Dark Days

Description: This was one of my first hacks so it may not be good.

(especially the first part in the second level)

And I wont be looking forward to finishing the hack. :P

Your title screen seems to be behind the foreground for some reason. It gets cut off by the file select, too.

The second level starts with a solid 13 identical screens of flat, enemyless, featureless autoscroll. What made you think this was fun?

Also, just two levels is a little too short. Send us a demo once you finish a whole world.

This one path corrupted upon appearing. You may want to uninstall the demo record ASM in LM if you haven't already. Fix this, and I'll accept happily.

Removal: "Super Mario & King Boo's & Bowser's Reign"
Author: King Boo & Bowser Teamup!
Description: "Hello! This is the beta of SM&KB&B's reign! This has 28 lvls (50 in all) But 28 is accessible. This pack (1.0) has an IPS patch and a readme. Enjoy!"

Readme? OH you mean that text file with a threatening name!

Hello! Welcome to the Beta of Super Mario and King Boo and Bowser's Reign!
This pack is 1.0 and should include--
- One IPS Patch of the Beta
- This Readme
-- If you got this on 2shared, Mediafire, etc., This IS not the real one.
This is the certication of the real 1.0 pack. You can only get this on 4shared and SMWCentral.

Enough small talk, lets get down to business.

--Story (See also in SMWCentral)
5 years after Mario defeated Bowser, and saved Princess Peach, a new land is discovered. Toadsworth suggests that Mario goes and claim's it for Mushroom Kingdom, and to discover it's lands. Little did they know, King Boo and Bowser has teamed up and conquered and reign's over it. A little bit later, Koopas and Boo ghosts burst in the castle, kidnapping Princess Peach! Mario and Toadsworth are stunned from the kidnapping, and decides to save Peach. Toadsworth gives him a 1-up, and Mario is on his way. He becomes a stoway on Bowser's Doomship. Little does he know that King Boo and Bowser teamed up...

A few hours later, he finds out that this new "kingdom" is Oundot Land, and Mario decides to jump off the Doomship into the part of the kingdom....

End~

So. This has 28 accessible levels, with 22 unaccessible levels. That is 50 levels altogeher. (All the way to World 4)

Glitches--

There is an unacessable castle in W-4. Thus, ending in the forteress.
Messed up overworld in World 3. (Did not do a good job.)
The spinys become invisible, thus you need to SPIN JUMP. All of this fixed
in beta 2. (Star World and Puzzle Land opened then)

Fin--
So. I hope you like the new overworlds (espcially Main Overworld)

Recommeened to use ZSNES

-------Mario's Snowy Vacation!

Now then...

What made you think this was a good idea to submit?

One other thing: Don't make Mario go off the top of the screen during a level to overworld transition (this includes bouncing on note blocks and walking up slopes) or else this will happen:

Hack Name: A Plumber's Tale Demo 2 Demo - 357.3 KB - 38 downloads.
Length: 21 levels
Author: Jolly Old Saint Jeuda - Submitted by: Jolly Old Saint Jeuda
Description: A second release, with a lot of major fixes and changes, and a lot more expected to be in the hack the day of the final release. I made a slightly different level sampling method this time. Instead of roaming a vast overworld, selecting various incomplete levels that still need gimmicks, I've compiled a submap's worth of complete levels, in Progressive order of course, allowing you, as the player, to freely sample each one to your heart's content. I hope this submission is a big improvement from the previous SMB3 music-based one, seeing as this hack includes the following:

-Custom GFX
-ExGFX
-Custom Music
-Custom Sprites
-Two Cutscenes
-One optional Custom Boss ... You don't even have to beat him!

The story remains the same: Bowser is digging for oil to fuel his airships for an ancient treasure foretold in ancient scrolls he found in his Ancientology 101 books from Koopa Kollege. Mario must stop it at all costs, seeing as with the situation at hand, Bowser's hunger for this treasure is killing thousands and hurting millions! He must traverse a seemingly normal chain of islands that actually hold a bloodied and war-riddled history.

With that out of the way...please, enjoy, friends :)

Here's Why

The FG, BG, and text palette needs a lot of work. The reds are clashing and ridiculously bright.

The FG is okay, but the pipe and the BG needs work.

The FG is a bit too bright.

The black lava here has a few problems. First...the palette choice is odd. Second...lava in general doesn't really suit a forest setting. Third...well, look:

Upside down lava acts like water on the tip before killing Mario. Not sure why this happens, but I've noticed it happen in quite a few hacks.

Bad palette.

Note block "bounce" graphic is glitched.

Cutoff.

Hard to see what is going on here...but I just got hurt. Apparently there is a jumping piranha plant behind this bush. Unseen sprites are usually not a good idea.

Extend the ground so Mario can finish his end of course animation.

Bad palette.

Cutoff.

Blocks create cutoff in dirt.

You put the bush too far to the right. It cuts into the side of the platform.

The player can get permanently trapped here.

Really bad FG palette.

Darken the bullet bill launchers. Also, don't stack them on top of eachother. The candle sticks in the BG should also not be used unless you are using the candle light sprite.

I would suggest not putting pipes on corners, as they create cutoff.

The spike palette would look better being a darker color.

Incorrect corner tile.

I would let vine cutoff slide if it was only the bottom...but the top should be connected to a solid surface.

Icy blue pipe should only be used in ice areas.

Same issue with the candles in the BG.

FG init position too high.

Blocks create cutoff in dirt.

Cutoff.

FG init position too high.

Bad palette for Eeries and Big Boos.

Either put a pipe here, or change Mario's entrance animation.

Really bad palette for the Buzzy Beetles.

I recommend extending the pipe to the bottom of the screen to eliminate cutoff.

These springs should be connected to some sort of wall.

Corner tiles create cutoff in lava (and water).

What's going on with the black in the grass?

I never was a fan of green palettes for the cave FG.

Cutoff. You use corner pipe tiles in other parts of the hack...why not just use them here?

Ugh. Don't place pipes in between screen boundaries.

I went through this pipe...

...and ended up here. THE PLAYER SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN TO ANY "TEST" LEVELS. Review your hack to make sure this doesn't happen.

Cutoff.

Bad lava palette.

Blocks create cutoff in the lava.

No midway marker. Why?

Blocks create cutoff in dirt.

This palette really hurt my eyes. You really need to try and work more on your palettes. They should be a nice gradient, and should not be eye searing.

Glitched note block frame.

Most of these crushing pipes just shoot down wickedly fast without any indication.

I have to ask...do you think that these palettes are good? The pipes need a lot of work...

Cutoff...and you actually brightened the already eye searing background. Thanks...luckily I have an optometrist appointment.

This jump is incredibly difficult. I wasn't able to clear it without a cape.

Why is the fire flower graphics replaced with a "?"?

You need to fix your BG init position here.

Okay, one of the strangest glitched I've ever seen. This brown "?" sphere is a key. I grabbed it, and when down a pipe. I then took control of the key, but then Mario shot out of the pipe when I went too far to the left. Seriously, I'm baffled...

Vines should be connected to something on their tops.

This message block displays the same message as the box at the start of the level.

Bad lava palette.

I entered a pipe after getting 5 big coins, and died. I needed a fire flower, but the fire flower isn't close to the entrance to this room. It's an easy mistake to NOT grab the flower, which is in the opposite direction. I suggest you put the pipe and fire flower together.

FG init position too low.

Wrong corner tiles.

Wrong corner tiles.

Wrong corner tile.

Cool fish graphics bro.

I entered this pipe and...

...ended up here, which is a level I already completed. :(

Vines should be connected on their tops.

Read previous comment.

You used better blocks than this earlier for breakable blocks.

Blocks create cutoff in dirt castle walls.

*NOT PICTURED*

Not sure why I didn't take a picture of this, but on your OW, the last castle doesn't have a top to it.

Several problems here, and it's only the first screen! First off, those tiles in the background? Don't use 'em. Second, several palettes are really terrible - you just edited a few colors here and there and now everything looks ugly. And finally, there are several things you NEVER do in a title screen demo: enter a door, enter a pipe, get multiple powerups, clear the level, hit a P-Switch, get a Star, and die. Right off the bat, you get a Star, breaking all sound for the hack unless you hit start as fast as you can.

And not 15 seconds later you jump into a pit and die.

The rest of this hack is just as terrible, here is a montage of images:

Reasons

Okay, you did add some proper screenshots this time, but that doesn't make the actual hack any better.

The file select palette looks a little odd.

Some - actually, very many - spots in this hack are really flat and boring.

Only the first 2 levels are accessible from the start, though all events are already revealed. Not necessarily a removal reason, it just looks a little weird.

The message box and some Bob-Ombs are invisible. Use the right sprite memory setting (Lakitu button) - 0E should normally work.

Enable sprite buoyancy (also Lakitu button), or these fish will be pretty harmless. (Also, you should remove some sprites here to reduce slowdown.)

Cutoff water, net and lava. Make sure that every object has proper ending tiles.

Another form of cutoff - the pipe leaves behind blank pixels in the lava.

What's that?

More cutoff.
(Also, 2nd screen - Wrong GFX for the goal sphere, not only in this level; 3rd screen - You have to be small to get through there - forced powerdowns are not cool - and you shouldn't use the bottom row of tiles in LM for ground.)

Glitched graphics everywhere. Also, you're able to re-enter this level, but the switch disappears after it's been hit, making you have to commit suicide to get out.

Yeah, you're totally not giving me easy lives here. Nope.
(Enemy and/or Yoshi Coin spam is bad, and so are easy-to-get moons and Yoshi Coins placed on sub-screen boundaries.)

As I said, don't use the bottom row of tiles for ground.

I couldn't go on here...

Same here. I think I was supposed to get the balloon (which has glitched graphics, by the way) to get to the end, but it didn't seem to last long enough. Also, looking at the level in Lunar Magic showed me that you need a P-switch in order to not die at the goal. Cheap tricks like this are more than frowned upon.
So yeah, I wasn't able to gon on here, but what I've seen so far is more than enough to get thiy hack removed.

Sorry, but you still have a lot of work to do before you can get your hack accepted here. Are you sure you've read our Hack Submission Guidelines?

This STILL isn't an acceptable screenshot. And the others you provided are just as bad.
Please, how hard is it to use ZSNES' screenshot function? Config -> Options, select PNG under "SShots", then go to Misc -> Misc Keys and pick a pay for Screenshot (I use Y for screenshots). Now you just press Y while playing your hack to make screenshots! They get saved to the same folder as your hack. Perfect screenshots every time.
Do that and make good, REAL screenshots before you submit this hack again, please.

Name: Yoshiro [Full version 1.0]
Author: Snowshiro
Description: Guys remember my old hack, well here's the full version of it. Yoshiro is an action-packed game which always keep you on your toes. Its not an average plat-former but its a game where you could end up as in a phanto chase situation or.. solving its puzzles. This game sticks through its storyline very strongly. Remember its an old hack, but it features exgfx, custom music, alittle asm, alittle hdma and other things.

Known glitches:
1. The OW in Nightmare forest and beyond. As well as the secret exits.

the title screen dark black words are purposely done that way. It has a meaning.. (sad story) (Care to share it with the class? Cause otherwise, I'm just gonna ding you for being too lazy to fix the palletes.)

2. on the first phanto chase, the note blocks may appear to be glitchy when jumped on. But its not really noticible/ its not big of a glitch. This problem is unfixable. (Actually, it's really easily fixable by way of ExGFX.)

3. the pipe pallete in the final battle cannot be changed without interfering with other pallets. Although its not bad.

Other than these 3 things, the game is fine.

Objective of this game:
Using Yoshiro, help him get to Knight Town. Be warned, this hack is not normal.

Pallete issues abound throughout the hack. It shouldn't be too hard to go back and fix these, though.

Have you installed your fadefix today?

One VERY annoying thing is the generators in the Boss Fights. Not for adding to the difficulty, but because the "End Level When All Sprites Are Destroyed" sprite needs you to dance around like mad to trigger the exit after killing everything, due to the constant influx of new sprites.

Why is Yoshi swimming in a non-water tile?

BARP! Can't use Spinies when using Beetles, fella. It's the rules.

And not specifically a removal reason, but five sodding Phantos at once in World 2 was a bit harsh, no?

You have a foundation set, but it's gonna need a whooole lot of polish.

Wait... *gasp* A "go-green" message in a hack?! :O

I've come back from being away a long time for a while only to see that this gets successfully submitted to SMWCentral. And once again, I hope I got the level number and screenshots right... (>_<)

I'm not going to lie - this is really an interesting hack. Your message boxes are rather witty, and most of the "odd" design in the hack isn't even buggy. However, I have to remove it due to a few issues that you need to fix. Once you take care of them, I'll accept it.

BUG: Simply a typing error. "tutoraials" should be "tutorials".

BUG: The sludge really doesn't look that good on the pipe corners, since it seems to be cut-off quite a bit. If you really want to use this, I'd replace the pipe walls with the normal, green ground.

BUG: The screen jerks to the left immediately upon entering this room. Try making Mario enter the room from the left side of the screen. That should fix it.

BUG: You use way, way too many Thwomps in this level. Because of that, a bunch of tiles in the sprite itself vanish. Try applying the "No Sprite Tile Limits" patch found in the Patches section, and then change the level's sprite header to 10. If you don't want to do that, then just try removing a few Thwomps.

BUG: Just to the left of the pink triangle. I'm sure you'll notice that the ground is cut-off there.

SUGGESTION: Add a roof here. The player can just spin jump off the Thwomp right over the top.

SUGGESTION: Why would you even try to take the upper path for the moon when you can just grab it by going through the lower, much easier path? Try extending the yellow pipe two extra tiles to "block off" the moon from the bottom, thus forcing the player to go back the way they came. It would at least give that path a purpose.

BIG BUG: The midway point in this level doesn't work.

Well, that's it. Fix up the bugs, at least, and you're good to go.
