Treesr4Treepeople1: NIce work with OW.
Fierce Deity is cool.
Workin' in OW request...
Currently attendind Scape Santa, but I don't know what to do...
My god Broozer, your vanilla hack is very sexy. The palettes, the level design, and the backgrounds are very nice, and blend in good. If I had to be nitpicky though, the pipe in the sixth screen is off a bit, along with the second rope. Other than that though, all of this looks amazing.

...Looks like I'll have to step up my game a bit.

Lately, I have been working on nothing but a bunch of vanilla levels just for fun. So far, I have finished two levels, yet I have started working on three. I will be just showing off random screenshots of the two I have completed so far, though, since the other one is in its very early stages... so, eh, enjoy the screens, I guess:

I'm aware that the background that appears in the first screenshot kind of looks a bit too much like one of the custom vanilla backgrounds Spud Alpha is using in his hack, so I will most likely end up whipping a different BG for that level.

I would include some more stuff in this post, but my mom is currently getting at me, forcing me to turn off the computer, as I have to wake up early tomorrow. >_>

O_O That is awesome! Who knew a vanilla hack could look so good?

I can't believe that is vanilla.

i just lurk sometimes
...and I can't believe you guys are THAT impressed for something I whipped up simply for fun. O_O Seriously guys, thanks so much for all the feedback - they really mean a lot to me, and they really motivate me to keep working on this, even though I have been making those levels for pure entertainment only.

I think I see what you mean... they really don't look perfectly fine in the place I threw them in, because of those quite small empty spaces creating little cut-off and all that. Hm. Thanks for the critique - I will go right ahead and find a better placement for both the pipe and the rope, though the latter might be kind of challenging... eh.
Broozer: Really nice work, those are the kind of vanilla levels I like, those who uses the limited smw graphics/blocks to make something new.
Pretty amazing stuff Broozer, I wouldn't have the patience to work in pure vanilla.

Anyways, I need to stop messing with my overworld and get some levels done, I still have no ideas whatsoever.

As always, feedback is appreciated.
Side note: Does anyone know how I can make a Layer 2 Event that will put a shadow under the bridge? It doesn't look right to me without one.

*goes to think of some ideas for a level*
I will return to work on my other hack now.

This is the updated overworld of my new hack with new graphics.

This is the lava cave submap.

This is the "last" world submap.

What do you think? Comment!
*cries* i can't make good overworlods like you guys :( why does yours has to be so awsome? anywyas looks awsome logup.

Very nice, I like the pallete, and no cutoffs as far as I see. Just make sure you add some detail to the ocean, it looks bland.

Wow, also a great job. The graphics are nice, and I like the submaps. Just there are some perspective issues in the main overworld. It's right under the left-most desert. Also fix the sign palletes.
Lynnes: The sign palletes isn't wrong. I only drew over these tiles:

Logup: I have to say, it looks great. The only thing I see wrong is the little "alley" inbetween the two big islands on the main OW looks a bit awkward.

Broozer: O_O ... oh my god, that looks amazing. Seriously, it was genius to use two different colors of FG, and the level design is fantastic. I don't mind any minor cutoff... it's just too great. It looks really fun, and beautiful at the same time. Keep it up, I hope you release this hack(if so, will it be full length or short?)
By the way, I don't mind you using the custom vanilla island BG thing, since yours is much better, but it's up to you :D

Awesome overworld logup. My favorite being the submap for the final world, it just looks fantastic (the rest of it looks just as good of course)

@Cheeseofdoom: Looks nice, the only thing wrong with it is there is a tiny bit of cutoff (corner tile missing) a few squares above the shipwreak. Other then that no problems to report.

@Treesr4treepeople1: Nice 1st world submap. Not a problem in site. Its Simple, the colours are great,it looks well designed and perfect for the first world (assuming that it is for the 1st world of course)

@Jingle's Calculator: Looks ok, palettes are ok, level design is fine, linear but thats not a big issue.

@Broozer: WOW. I think that sums those pictures up nicely. Those vanilla levels are just jaw dropping. Its amazing what someone can do with only original graphics and some creativity. Goes to show that you don't need ExGFX, custom sprites, blocks etc. just to make a good level. Any problems (if any) in those screenshots are over written but just how well designed those levels are.

@DragonIce6780: Last comment for now. Very nice overworld. While I can't say I love the graphics, it doesn't look half bad, although the area with castle #3 on it leaves a bit to be desired (its a little empty), besides that everything looks good (I'd try to find cutoff but that'd take too long

Red Tales: Part 1: Hack is being worked on. Committed to finishing this time
Levels Complete: 6/29 Exits: 16/40
Thanks Dragon, I'm glad you found that.
Also, thank you Lynnes, what should I add to the ocean to make it more detailed, I don't really think there would be many icebergs near a beach...
----------------

A few islands maybe or some rocks could work, can't think of much else at the moment. Just recolor the rocks that float in the water. They don't have to be icebergs (and icebergs can be near beaches, they can travel pretty far from where they are originally located [don't quote me on this, I don't know too much about icebergs)

@Cheeseofdoom: If you animate it with the large event tiles at the top, where the rock Bowser head thing is,, you can have it animate so that a shadow will appear under the bridge.

I just started a vanilla hack today and I'm just showing a few screenshots of my first level:

Looks good, reghrhre. The level design is the most notable part. (since it's vanilla)

And also, it's looks like you made a custom background using the vanilla tiles. Good idea with that.

The palette is good, my only recommendation is that maybe you should change Mario's palette, just to spice things up a bit.

Looks like you got the idea from Luigi's Adventure?

actually, FPI, that OW pic you shown is from Anikiti's Luigi Adventure OSE hack and not from his original Luigi Adventure hack, which had a slightly different OW map.
as everyone is showing their OW so i will show mine too, i just make a few adjustments and make a peach castle, but i still doing the castle gfx, but there it is:

and there 2 enemies GFX i did

Broozer, that was very good, but there are some places that has cutoff, just fix that and will be alot better.

Reed and Grhreen, i like your level desngn, i just don´t like the shape of the dirty tiles in the third screen. also, your OW i seen earlier was realy good.

cheeseofdoom, your OW is comming up very good keep it up.

Lynnes, in all of your OW what most call my attention is your use of palettes, but you have also a great desingn as well.

1UPdudes, i always wonder if you ever change the FG, BG and OW GFX, so if you do will change them, i could help with something.

comments are always wellcome.
