IT has returned!
Tell me, Ama, have you ever wondered what lies beyond your village, your familiar land? What sort of places are there to see? What sort of things are there to be discovered? And what sort of truths lie hidden?

An all-new SMW hack, A Severed Freedom finds a young girl named Ama thrust into a new adventure. Along the way, she'll encounter danger, action, excitement and knowledge, meeting both friends and foes along the way.
A Severed Freedom has been in development for roughly six months, very soon after The Tale of Elementia was cancelled. IT, a short, jungle-themed level that was unveiled last C3, was a small sample of what was to come. However, since then, much has been done...
Story
Unlike The Tale of Elementia, A Severed Freedom's story is integral. It is one I hope will be far more expansive, deep, and interesting than tToE's. All of the characters in the hack are brand-new, and you can expect more than a few twists and turns in the plot along the way. The cutscenes stick to the traditional style instead of the Variable Width Font tool, but they've been improved this time, allowing several screens to advance for each slide instead of continuously loading levels.
Gameplay
A Severed Freedom takes a slightly different route in the gameplay department. Once again, A Severed Freedom focuses on some unique and different designs for each level. However, this time, it's quite a bit more action-based. That isn't to say that there won't be puzzles and alternate paths to explore, but A Severed Freedom usually has a clear path of where you should go in a level, keeping players from getting overly confused or lost.
Graphics
As with The Tale of Elementia, I've made a serious effort to provide all-new, hand-drawn graphics for the project. However, unlike Elementia, all of the graphics are hand-drawn. Not just the foregrounds, and backgrounds, but the characters, enemies, and other graphics are drawn by hand to fit in with the style. I feel like my graphical skills have only improved over time, and by creating new graphics for this project, A Severed Freedom can feel that much more unique as a result.
Music
Of course, A Severed Freedom contains a plethora of music. Many new songs have been ported for the project, and quite a few of these even use samples. However, there are a few completely original songs I have composed for A Severed Freedom, ones I hope will enhance the experience. Below are some of the many tracks that will be used:
Banjo-Tooie - Mayahem Temple Interior
Chrono Trigger - Ocean Palace
Mario Golf - Koopa Cup
Mother 3 - Letter
The Legend of Zelda - Oracle of Ages/Seasons - Boss
ORIGINAL - Caliga Caverns
ORIGINAL - Theme of ????
ORIGINAL - Theme of ?????
ORIGINAL - Title Screen
As it stands, roughly a dozen of the 50+ levels planned for A Severed Freedom have been completed. Though there is quite a ways to go, I feel like very good progress has already been made in six short months, and that even more can be done in the time to come. However, to be clear, I will most likely NOT be releasing a demo of this hack. I feel that releasing a demo will not only require people to repeat sections in the final version and cut off segments of the story, but it will also discourage me from working straight to the end. This is a hack that I intend to finish: I am not working just for a short demo, I'm working toward a full hack.
Along the way, I've received some great support. SNN and Foursword4, as well as Steven and Lucas, have provided some great feedback, found some bugs, and generally been awesome and helpful along the way. Without them, ASF wouldn't be anywhere near where it is now, and as a result, I greatly appreciate their help.
There have been some who have directly asked me what I've been doing these past few months, including whether or not I was working on a hack, to which I responded no. I apologize to these people, but I wanted to keep this a surprise until now. Still, I hope you enjoy what I've shown, and look forward to what I'll share in the times to come.
