Recent Kuribo Development

Link Thread Closed
Some of you may have noticed that Kuribo's Shoe suddenly looks a lot like SMW Central. Saying that it actually IS the Central isn't too far from the truth.

I am currently working on a legacy module, which will allow me to use SMWC pages on Kuribo directly. This enables us to migrate to Kuribo's Shoe much sooner than previously anticipated. The whole reason for this is that making a new site that is to replace SMW Central is a big task, and a bit difficult to accomplish all at once. Instead, it is more convenient for me to provide the new stuff gradually, eventually phasing out the obsolete SMWC code completely. However, I am guessing that jumping back and forth between the sites to reach the new sections would get tedious pretty quickly, so I came up with this idea.

The basic idea is to "wrap" SMW Central so that it is compatible with Kuribo. You will have to register a new account at Kuribo, but it will be linked to your current SMW Central account in order to maintain compatibility with all the current forum data, files, and so on. I made this image here in an attempt to explain it further:

Now, if all goes well, you can expect me to shut down SMW Central within the next week or two. However, if it comes too close to the C3, I will most likely wait until it is over.

To begin with, there is no support for the SMW Central schemes, however, so you better get used to the green. I hope to add this soon, though.

Just before you ask, no it is not possible to link your SMWC and Kuribo account yet. Well it is, but I will have to do it for you.
Ooh. Its sorta complicated, but the short and sweet is that you can...wait. I'm confused still. x.x

So we will need new accounts, but it will kind of import our accounts over?

Well, you would have to link it, but its not quite ready yet. That the tl;dr version, pretty much?
I always use the normal SMWC scheme, and I'd love for you to keep it as an option. Just sayin'

Also, MY POOR POSTCOUNT. *killed*

Sounds good. I'd be glad to switch over whenever.

If I understand correctly, we'll make new accounts and stuff that we did in SMWC will be "ported" over to Kuribo? Well that sounds interesting, if it'll work with the profiles, hacks, files etc. I like that idea. Should make things faster. As for the schemes, I don't really care, seeing as the Kuribo one looks pretty nice. Switching over won't be a problem.
Chelf: Here's the main page.

Apart from that, I honestly don't have much of an opinion on this.
Although... there will be an announcement announcing the change, right?
And will the custom titles given by donations carry over or not?

Seems interesting. I find it difficult to understand, but okay. :P Glad to hear Kuribo's Shoe will be here sooner. I am interested to see how this works.

One thing: Will the SMW pages become archive pages so we can visit back to them?
Also, what if we already have an account registered on Kuribo?

I registered like...4-6 months ago.
It seems that you have not fully grasped the concept of the legacy module. There is no "carrying things over". The legacy module is meant to run the exact same files with the exact same database as SMW Central runs on.

So while the name will change, as well as a lot of code (but still most of it ripped from SMWC, yes?), all the data (RAM, if I may make that analogy) of the names, users, hacks, etc will stay.

Very impressive, Kieran, if I am correct. In any case I have a inkling of what you are talking about and it's a lot of clever code I am sure.

Questions: I assume this is not finished; I see that layouts have not been loaded in yet, so it's not done?
And when will this be ready for registration? Are you just going to post a annoucement when you can properly register a Kuribo account?
Also, how will you "link" member data? That is, verify you are who you say you are to properly link data?

@Phoenix's post way up there: Yes. That is part of the user data, I think, so it should.
I'm really trying to wrap my head around this, but I just can't. It all seems so unnecessary. Maybe I'm unfamiliar with the revolutionary way Kuribo's Shoe handle's files and users, but this all sounds like a huge workaround so you don't have to change your file/directory names in the database.
I made a standalone game once, look for Seabug Stampede on Google Play.

WHAT THE FU- *BOOM*

...

I'm beginning to not like this idea as much as when it started...
Now with extra girl and extra hacker
I was on kuribo's shoe and I had a little bit of errors there. And no, I didn't make my acc. there. I had to scroll down ALOT there and get's an error when I use the go to the newest post button.
YOUR layout has been removed.

Actually, the registration system was created a long time ago. A lot of us on the IRC at the time Kieran announced we were able to register did so. But I recommend to wait until we move to Kuribo to make an account. In case you don't know, the new website doesn't have user IDs (at least any visible to us), meaning there won't be any competition to get "?p=profile&id=1337" or something (although I know for a fact I got user ID 10, woo). So, there's no point in rushing to make an account since user IDs are only used internally, meaning we won't see it.

Anyway, you've already told me about this about a week ago, so none of this is a surprise to me. I've already asked what I needed to when you first brought up what was happening, so I'm pretty much set for the change over.

In case you haven't realised, Kuribo isn't even close to be being completed. Of course you're going to get errors.

Also, guys, as much as you might not like the transition, you're going to have to live with it. The new website will have, as I understand, improved coding and a much broader hacking community. If we tried to improve SMWCentral, it'd require shutting down sections and such to update them, which will be a real nuisance. It's just better this way. I don't want to see this topic to attract posts complaining about why we're moving or why we need a new website in the first place.

Plus, change is good. It's always good.

Don't worry, as Kieran said, the legacy module will allow everything on SMWCentral to go into Kuribo. You won't lose anything, from what I understand.

Except when it's bad :D

SMWCentral has always been a bit slow for me (though it improved drastically a few months ago). Hopefully this will alleviate that a little bit.

This looks good. I can't wait to see the the outcome in a couple of weeks. Some people may not like change but they'll get used to it. Keep up the good work.

Soo.... I keep my post count ect?
If i understood correctly, then we'll lose the postcount and stuff, but the files are being loaded from this site?

I have to admit I haven't fully understood it yet... From what I could grasp, all the files and stuff will be kept for now, but it will gradually be replaced with a new system. Is that correct?

Another thing that wasn't clear to me is the posts... Will they be kept? I'd personally prefer a completely fresh start instead of carrying everything over, but that's not mine to decide on. Besides, it does save a lot of time (and SMWC being shut down in only a few weeks feels kind of exciting too.)
