It has come to my attention that people have been submitting useless junk to the tools section. I have found this unequivocally detestable, and thus, action will be taken immediately. I've been removing countless amount of junk, and I think it is time that there must be a change. (New) submission rules are to be enforced from now on.
Here are the tool submission rules in a nutshell:
1. Please submit tools related to Super Mario World hacking only!
We don't want useless junk like Lazy Shell or SMILE or Eggvine or whatever. It is useless junk on this site anyway. I bet some other sites worship those. But we do not equal other sites. We only focus in Super Mario World hacking. You will either need to give up, or wait until Kuribo's release! Failing to follow this simple rule will ultimately get your tool rejected.
2. Always submit a readme file along with the tool!
It happened that people sometimes put only a part of the readme into the description, or include no Readme file at all. Because of this, people don't know how to use a specific tool. Make your own readme file if you have to. The readme atleast needs to instruct you on how to get the tool working. Failing to follow this simple rule will ultimately get your tool rejected.
3. Do not submit easily google-able tools.
Although database space isn't really that much of a problem (more than 1 Terabyte of space if I recall correctly), submitting google-able famous essential tools (winrar, media converters, etc) will clutter up the tools section. This rule is somewhat linked with rule #1 since easily google-able tools are non SMW hacking tools. We really only allow Super Mario World hacking tools. Failing to follow this simple rule will ultimately get your tool rejected.
4. Do not submit tools with a duplicate function
Duplicate tools are the most annoying ones to deal with. For example, we have an SPC player in the tools section. Then, someone comes along and submits ANOTHER SPC player to the tools. Probably better, probably not. But since we have an SPC player anyway, we don't need the duplicated one. Thus, the deny button has the most chance of getting pressed. Of course, there are also tools like Addmusic. So many of them. They all are actually different if you look at the ASM hacks they install, their features, their functionalities. It is up to you to pick your addmusic. Do not submit tools with a duplicate function. Failing to follow this simple rule will ultimately get your tool rejected.
5. "Starter pack" submissions
"Starter packs" are packs which contains various hacking tools, already found on this site. This means you are violating rule 4. I made this rule seperately since it occured so many times in the past. People can assemble their own damn hacking pack. They can download their own tools. No need to make a whole pack for that. If we really accepted packs, we would be having so many packs right now, like "ASM packs", "Lunar tool nerd pack", "Lunatic hacking pack", "hurf durf waffle yaycake with a ROM pack" etc. Don't submit packs.
6. Updated tools
These tools are actually something that you SHOULD submit. If there is an old version of the tool lying around, and you've found an updated version of the tool, don't hesitate to submit it. We want everything to be high-quality after all, don't we?
7. ROM files are NOT tools
This one should be obvious. Submitting a ROM gets you banned.
8. ASM patches are NOT tools!
Yes. Keep patches to the patches section. Not here. No matter how the layout of the patch is, it does NOT belong in the tools section!
9. Do not submit viruses
Obviously. Submitting a virus will earn you the worst punishment possible.
Additionally, you could check the tool removal log to get a basic understanding of what could be submitted and what couldn't. Repeat offenders will be banned.
The current tools in the Tools section will NOT be dealt with. They have made it past the moderation after all, so I can take care of them whenever I've (or someone else) wanted to.
