EDIT: Agh, stupid link!
This fits more in "Gaming". I'm going to move it there.

Also, this is like, the 600th thread I've seen about this, but this will always be my favorite VG track. There are many other great ones, but this has had the biggest impact on me.
Gale from Chrono Cross. I like the way it makes my ears bleed.
Just kidding :)

Almost anything in Chrono Trigger, Cave Story, or Super Mario Galaxy.
I like the music from Super Mario Sunshine, Yoshi's Island and Super Mario Bros 3.Free counters!
In terms of nostalgia, I'll take Super Mario Bros 1 and 3, Super Mario World and Yoshi's Island more because they were the games I grew up playing.

As for since then, I've always liked the music selections for Gran Turismo 1 and 2 for the PS1 - they were the first games I ever played that featured actual songs, even though I'd never heard any of them before.

i love every song from chrono trigger!! but other then that id have to say my favirote would be mute city theme from F-Zero (snes version)
I already posted this before, but I'll post it again. My top 10s.

Jet force Gemini, The mines
Dramatic, and stuff. I... Look, I just like it. It's not up-beat, and that's just GREAT.

Chrono Cross, "another world"
I'm not very fond of this game, Maybe the plot only gets interesting after the 8 first hours...? Anyway, This is so great, the perfect soothing music indeed!

Chrono Cross, Arni Village
More chrono cross? That one is the incarnation of HAPPINESS! YAY! ...

Riven soundtrack
The whole Myst and Riven sountracks are very interesting, axed on ambiance mostly, and a lot more elaborate music than most...

Perfect Dark Zero, Riverchase
Not a nintendo game! Though it's the sequel to a classic. I haven't played it, but I suspected pieces of the soundtrack would be great since it's rareware. That's probably the best of this games' music.

Perfect Dark, Datadyne
Hey, it's still rareware.

Original Rayman
Short, but moving track. Rayman has a surprising sountrack for a relatively unknown game.

Yoshi's story, Bowser's castle
Once again, an original soundtrack mixing cute and evil at the same time.

Castlevania: Order of ecclesia
Azure wanderings was already great when I heard it in the game, but that remix is even better! Sweet! One of the best castlevania tracks IMO... Hail from the past is good too.

Now, the last,
Chrono Resurrection, Corridors of time
The whole chrono resurrection project was a failure, but it's soundtrack (which consists of approximately 15 reinstrumented chrono trigger musics) is just amazing. Add the nostalgy now.

And since it would be pointless to just repost, I'll add...

DKC life in the mines
It's the best of the game, barely above fear factory. Though it is strange, I didn't recall that music was so awesome... I had to rehear it to realise.

World of goo
The soundtrack of this game is so strange. It's like turning something not epic into something epic. But the result is great.

Kirby 64: Factory
Really, the soundtrack is average but soothing. Though that piece is really great, just like 02.

Cosmo Canyon
Yup. I think honestly there aren't that mayn good songs in FF7 but this one is really worth it. I like forested temple as well.

Majora's mask: Clock town
This has got to be another extremely happy-ish song, really works.

Jet force Gemini: SS anubis
I said Jet force Gemini had military styled songs, which were great. That's one of the best in the kind.

Metroid prime: Phendrana Drifts
One of the best song in the metroid prime trilogy, I think.

Golden Eye 007: Runway
Yup another rare song, it's good as well.
Our world will stop advancing once humans manage to create sufficient magnificence for a whole lifetime. Until then, I just create.

Rayman isn't unknown... And I do likectje music from it. You can put the PSX version in a CD player, if you like.
@lucario777: Well, it IS rayman, a popular game series. And I DID play it... It might not be as unknown as most games, but it is certainly not the most played in the series, even thought it is the first... I think.

Oh, and, I laughed when you mentionned Gale. God, that thing just ruins the game somehow.

Wait, I found something. Portrait of ruins also has different versions of the in game musics, so: Hail from the past...

I´m actually only registered for the forum. If my Hack "Super Mario Country" gets in progress, you´re the first ones to know.

I have way too many to list, but I'll give it a shot.

Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story - Final Boss - What isn't there to like about this song? It is the definition of epic...and for one heck of a fun final fight. What a great way to end a great game, huh?
Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story - Cavi Cape - It's a shame that one of the best tracks in the game is used for such a short area at the start of the game.
Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story - Peach's Castle - This track really shows how twisted the home of the Mushroom Kingdom government has become. Really sets the atmosphere for a twisted area for an equally twisted villain.

Sonic 3 - Ice Cap Zone Act 1 - A truly beautiful track. No matter how many times I listen to this song, the beauty never fades.
Sonic 3 & Knuckles - Lava Reef Zone Act 1 - A track that rivals Ice Cap Zone. The zone itself is just brilliant, and the track suits it far more than I originally thought.

Tales of Symphonia - Fatalize - Ever since I first heard this song, I was truly blown away. I remember pausing the game during the fights this song was played just to listen to the music. It's THAT good.
Tales of Symphonia - Beat the Angel - Although not nearly as good as Fatalize when viewed as a standalone track, this song carries so much emotion, it's enough to push any player over the edge. If you don't believe me, play the game. You'll see what I mean.

Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World - Climb it Hastily! - Although many of the new tracks from ToS:DotNW aren't as good as the tracks from it's predecessor, this one breaks that trend. Definitely one of the most upbeat tunes in the game...but the area that played this song could have been a bit more...epic.
Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World - The Wilderness of Sadness - Total eargasm. If there is anything that ToS2 did better than ToS, it was the final boss, along with the music. While ToS one had emotion, ToS2 had urgency, anger, and revenge.

Metroid Prime 2: Echoes - Sanctuary Fortress - When I think of the Metroid Prime series, music isn't the first thing that comes to mind. However, there are a few brilliant gems that stand out...with this being one of them.
Metroid Prime - Phendrana Drifts - The most beautiful track in the Metroid Prime series to me. Calming, soothing, and crystalline, all wrapped into one package.
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption - Rundas Battle - Can't forget about the third Prime game, as well as this awesome track. Although I think the song gets killed later on in it's playback time, everything up to that point it is amazing.

Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia - Sorrow's Distortion - One of the best tracks in the game hands down. Empty emotion ran high in this fight against one of the coolest characters in the series.

That's it for now. There are so much more tracks, but those are the first ones that came to mind.

Oh, and, I laughed when you mentionned Gale. God, that thing just ruins the game somehow.

Rayman 1 was the first AND best. I need a remake of that.
Also, I want to see a boss in an rpg with Gale as the theme, and you take damage over time due to your ears heavily bleeding. But I digress. I really like "Doomsday zone" from sonic and knuckles... Mostly for the remix. Also, why has no one mentioned Cave story other than me, or legend of Zelda theme, or Secret of Mana… but no, you guys all talk about the tales of series.
Ape Escape - Sushi Temple - I've always loved any world in a game with an eastern setting, in large part because you end up getting songs like this. I love the water drop sounds in the background, and it's got a really catchy beat.

Chrono Trigger - Ocean Palace - What can I say? This was an extremely epic, awesome theme packed with tension in one of the most important parts of the game. It added so much atmosphere to the area, and is great to listen to even outside Chrono Trigger itself.

Crash Bandicoot 2 - Rock It, Pack Attack The original Crash Bandicoot trilogy has always held a special place in my heart, and the second entry is easily my favorite of all. This was probably my favorite tune out of all of them: it has a great sound to it and really suits the area well.

Sonic CD - Tidal Tempest Present (JP/EU) - The cool, calm BG sounds toward the beginning sound great, and the actual melody is really catchy. Both versions of the Sonic CD music have some great tunes, but this stands as my favorite.

Terranigma - Evergreen - Beautiful. There's nothing like swimming in a calm, quiet lake with lily pads around you and the reflection of tall trees appearing in the water with this music playing.

Terranigma - Underworld - Believe it or not, but I happened to find this theme while randomly browsing Youtube, and it alone made me download the ROM and start playing. It sounds mysterious and full of emotion.

Touhou 7 - Mystic Oriental Dream ~ Ancient Temple - Going along with the ancient/eastern vibe of Sushi Temple, this song is really atmospheric
and great to listen to.

Touhou 8 - Cinderella Cage ~ Kagome Kagome - This was one of those songs I skipped at first and pretty much ignored, mainly because the intro sounded boring. One time, though, I listened past it, and discovered an amazing song hidden there. The horns sound great in this, and the song has a hint of sadness and delicacy.

Touhou 11 - Walking the Streets of a Former Hell At first, I loved the boss theme for this stage, then took a listen to this one instead... it sounded better by a long shot. This one has a awesome, catchy and Chinese sound to it, and a song I never get tired of.

Touhou 12 - UFO Romance in the Night Sky - It seems like a lot of times with music, it'll start out awesome to hear and gradually wear you down until you hate it. Oddly enough, I wasn't too fond of this one at first, but it gradually grew on me to the point that now I call it my favorite theme from the game. It's really catchy and the little laughs and chirps give it some character.

I have a bunch more, but these are just ten of my favorites I thought of at the time.
@above person: This. I'm not sure if it's really better than the original, but the instruments are better at least. Though I don't know most of the other games...

Oh, besides, why in the world is everyone saying "Mario & luigi: Bowser's inside story: Final boss"?! IT'S NOT THAT A GOOD SONG! THE FINAL BOSS SUCKED, THAT SONG IS EPIC BUT THERE'S BETTER!

Of course, it's hard to mix epic and greatness. For exemple: Dancing mad and One winged Angel, really epic... Not that good. Though enjoyable.

02 is epic too...
