Notte Luminosa: It's been accepted!

Standard

It's done.

Screenshots of the Final Demo:

OLD SCREENSHOTS:

Notte Luminosa is a hacking project that I started in late August. Artsy2 has been working with me on the project, helping in the Graphics collecting, and is making levels currently.

Notte Luminosa Simply means "Bright Light" in Italian. As such, Notte Luminosa is a hack that takes place in a Small Solar System, where the Alien Lumos (Currently stuck at the stage of still having Mario graphics) goes on various adventures throughout the cosmos. Watch as he ascends the tallest towers in search of treasure, scales treacherous cisterns for the fun of it, goes star surfing, and even hijacks space stations!

Well, Enough about that crazy-introduction filler. Let's get down to it... At the time of this thread's creation, 8 levels are complete for the Hack, out of an eventual 20. There are Custom Graphics, ASM hacks, and Custom Music implemented. Custom Sprites and Blocks are still being mulled over though. Mario's Graphics will eventually be changed into something more... savory... But for now, we must bear with it!

Well, Enough of that. Let's see some screenies...

The Overworld as it currently Is.

Beginning the Climb up the Pastry Mountains...

Am I seeing a Goomba? What is that thing?

Just put one foot in front of the other... And soon you'll be on top of the mountain!

Hn. This is very high up...

Finally, One hits the peak of the mountain!

Wait, there's more? What could be in those clouds?..

Suddenly, you're walking on thin air...

Entering "Palude Calma"... The Silent Swamp.

I always did wonder why things got so silent all of a sudden.

Very taxing for people who cannot do things precisely. However, It is completely possible to do this without taking a single hit.

The Deeper into the swamp we go, the more dead souls we find.

Even the Wood is haunted! THE WOOD!

Find the Magical B-Switch, but what use does it have?

Eventually, you hit the dark canopy of the Swamp: Claim your prize!

The ruins of Vista Lattera hold a mighty treasure at the top tower... What other mysteries does this place hold?

Behind the Bricks lies a secret passage that one must take if one does not have the springboard.

Alas, taking this path seems to work in your favor in the long run.

These Blue Blocks always contain Blue B-switches.

WHOOOAAA! I didn't mean to fall down here! ;-;

Straight out of the Laura Croft Tomb Raiding academy I see...

Finally, you can claim your prize!.. Or search again, this time for the secret treasure.

Enter the Lumona Fields for an excellent view of the Pastry Mountains, and the Stars that light them.

A Misbehaving Lakitu awaits for your arrival with Spinies.

These Red blocks act as cloud tiles.

A ? Sphere gives you insight into the local wildlife.

A Journey into Lumanosa City Grants the hero many things to do to take his mind off the main quest.

Like visiting the Daycare Center

Or going to Yobi the Yoshi's Pub, to save his progress.

[Note: This is the only place in the game which allows you to save your progress. It's kinda like the Toad Save houses of Super Mario TKO]

Or maybe even checking out the Local Shoppe.

What awaits our Hero inside the Glowing Cistern?

find out next time on Dragonball Z!
Find out when the demo comes out!

In addition, there is a whole other level I have not posted pictures of. I might get around to doing it in the future though.

Comments? Questions? Concerns? Feel free to comment, leave criticism, or even just chat.

This certainly is impressive! I see no real flaws.

However, since this takes place in another solar system, I find all the Mario-related GFX such as ground, clouds, enemies, etc. to be kinda out of place.

Me and Artsy2 are in the process of replacing the original Graphics with something more space-fitting.

Looking good so far! I would like to know what the new main character looks like since you made it obvious that there's gonna be a new one other than Mario. Anyway, I hope to see more screenshots soon!

I can't agree more with this.

Edit: Silly me, I got ninja'd.
Hello there, here is my new blog. I will usually update it every day.
My Pokemon:

Party Image cause I feel lazy.
The only thing I don't like about this hack is the ExGFX selection. Besides that, this hack looks great! Keep up the good work!

We're still gathering Graphics... But what graphics would you recommend that fit the theme of the levels better?

I don't know if this makes sense, but the graphics look too smooth, and I don't like the kind of mood they cast.

The Cartoony Mood they cast is bad?..

Like I said in the SS+Video thread, this looks freakin' awesome! I really like all the sprite changes you two have done. They are all fitting the space mood.

I won't mention all the smw stuff, since you've already said several times that you guys are working on it.

The overworld really caught my eye. That is really cool, the effect you have there. It's amazing how you came up with the idea to use a switch palace as a dome-spaced-thing. I probably would never have thought of that. :>

Oh, and all the crazy dirt shapes you use in the vertical level are pretty rad, I have to say.

==========:FIRST:==========

I'm debating whether or not we should transfer over to using this grassland graphics instead of the original (and easily modify-able) ones from SMW...

Compare This:

to this:

Comments?

I personally think that we should stick to the original ones, but I want to hear everyone else's opinions on this. The New one just feels a bit too grainy honestly, but I love the platforms. ;-;

Before I forget, WhiteYoshiEgg made the graphics.

==========:SECOND:==========

I found a bug that was causing some serious crap to go down in certain levels. This is due to using certain music that requires the N-SPC patch before applying aforementioned patch. Now I just gotta remember how to apply that danged patch... >,>

==========:THIRD:==========

If anyone can just Pm me about installing the More.asm that comes with Romi's addmusic, you would be called awesome in many languages by me.

Toodaloo for now.

I like the platforms, but your right it is a little too grainy. If it was more rocky then it would be perfect.
This looks nice. Can't wait to play it!
I agree with the platforms, they look nice, but the dirt and stuff looks a little too grainy. Also, this hack looks very promising with all the Graphics you are using for the space theme.
To be completely honest, I don't think you should use either of them. I would try and make some different graphics, because the orginial, is well, old.

And the other one, I just flat out don't like it. The texture is... ugh.

So to answer your question, I neither pick A or B, I pick C, "none of the above".

The overworld Looks great!
Can't wait for the Demo~
This a a not-really update. Ya see, I accidentally left my jump drive on top of a school computer. If that thing is lost, this hack is screwed. ;-;

Tomorrow I will upload pictures on;

-The New player sprites I made
-The new grassland graphics
-New Status Bar

:D

...Sorry to hear that Yananma. I'm praying to god even more now, I really hope it's not lost.

Also, please reply, or at least read my PM.

I can't wait to see what the player actually looks like! :)
Your layout has been removed.

Graphic Updates?

Well, It's that time of the month again... Without my jump drive, I can only do the administration half of upkeeping the hack. Actually, it's more like the Administration 1/9th...

Here are the graphics Artsy2 and I plan on using for the 3 Space station-themed levels:

It's Metroid Fusion Main Pack (made by doomdragon).

And some snowy ExGFX for a level in World 2.

(ExGFX made by Juggling Joker)

Finnaly, I have the Graphics that will be used in the Star Surfing level chosen...

(Neon Starship by Hailstorm).

To elaborate on the Star Surfing level, I plan on having an Autoscroll there. Lumos will be jumping from platform to platform at varying autoscroll speeds. It'll be more of a "Race against the clock" esque level. Maybe the thing will even have an automatic section. Who knows?

In other news, I must wait until much later today to confront the custodial staff and see if they located my jump drive. If god forsakes me and Artsy2 by NOT giving up the jump drive, I will be VERY PISSED OFF.

Full list of things to expect pictures of:
-Changed Mario sprite to Lumos
-New Title Screen Layer 3 graphics
-New Changed Status bar, with new graphics
-A glitch involving Mr. Koopa's head making grabage tiles
-Partially modified grassland graphics
-Some fixed FG/BG starting positions

Finally, I have a quick question...
Does anyone know if the Foreground and Background used in this video?..
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/sHFbpnOHB1Y&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/sHFbpnOHB1Y&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

If the set is no longer available on this site, then does anyone know of a site where I can get it? I think it's an awesome set, and would fit in with the hack quite nicely...

Anyways, Peace out.

I can't really think of anything to say about this that hasn't already been said, but I'll be on a lookout for whenever you release this! And I hope you can find your jump drive...
Good fucking bye.
