Super Mario Advance 4 Editor Efforts (Video & Links Inside)

Hello everyone,

I hope this is the proper place to post this, and I hope it is not considered spam. I apologize in advance if this is inappropriate.

Anyways, even though this is a SMW forum, I'm trying to generate interest in hacking the GBA version of Super Mario Bros. 3. I've posted a ton of stuff on youtube, and a topic that has some momentum here....

http://acmlm.no-ip.org/board/thread.php?id=5226&page=1

I think that there is immense hacking potential in this game, perhaps even more than SMW. Here's a video showcasing all of the features that exist on the SMA4 rom. There's even more stuff that I left out of the video due to the 10 min limit.

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/yy-9FAwwMvM&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0x5d1719&color2=0xcd311b"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/yy-9FAwwMvM&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0x5d1719&color2=0xcd311b" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

SMA4 is based off of the SMB3 engine, but it has a far better save feature than the NES and SMAS versions. It's even better than the SNES version of SMW because it actually saves after the game is beaten!! After the game's beaten, maps can be navigated like SMW, where levels can be replayed freely. Also, some of the best power ups appear from other series like the SMW cape, and legit SMB 2 vegetable tossing. You can run on the ceiling w/ the pink ramps, not just the walls. You can steal boomerangs from boomerang bros and get the goomba boot. Anyways, I digress. Savestates are posted in the topic if you want to see these features in action.

If you think you can contribute to these efforts, are interested in producing SMA4 hack, or just want to post some positive energy, please post or spread the word about these efforts.

Thank you very much for reading.
It looks like a nice SMA4 hack, but you should have put this in ROM hacking forum. (not backseat moderating or anything)
The hack looks nice. (I really don't have anything to say)
That's not a hack, those are the e reader levels.
oh, iv'e never played SMA4, so yeah
Just got through watching the video, and it's surprising how many sprites and things were actually in the game itself. I especially liked the rotating blocks and spinning platforms.

As other users have mentioned however, this isn't the appropriate place to post. This forum's designed for posting your own SMW hacks, not other games. I'll go ahead and move this to ROM Hacking.
Yes, all of the clips in the video are of the e-Reader levels. Like this...

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/S2qkgUZE4TQ&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0x5d1719&color2=0xcd311b"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/S2qkgUZE4TQ&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0x5d1719&color2=0xcd311b" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

All of the game engine elements are on the rom itself, but aren't placed in the original game. The cards only add level layouts. There's immense hacking potential here though!

Edit: Thanks mod for moving topic
Now if only some genius would come along and make one. I really want to hack this game too. But first, we should fix the colors of the whole game to use the snes paletts instead of bright washed out colors. All it would take is some hex editing. Alot of hex editing.
I'm interested to get new levels on e-Reader cards, so i can play them on my GBA.

Look in the topic link in my 1st post. A link to a gamesave is there so you can play ALL of the world-e levels - including the ones that were only released in Japan. There's a total of about 30 of 'em.
Thanks for the save file, (I was too lazy to do it myself.) I dont think it's fair that we barely got any e reader levels at all compared to the japanese.

No, i actually i did think new levels, that the hackers will make in e-Reader format.
I can play the real e-Reader levels with no problem with NO$GBA.
I have the Europe version of the game, and i have somehow unlocked the e-Reader things (i just need to test with a REAL US e-Reader, which i don't have at all), i did dumped that save with access to e-Reader things for Europe version.

Now this is one of the few reasons of why I should learn ARM ASM, and get into GBA hacking. I already have a SMA4 ROM ((U) V1.1), but I don't know how to access the E-reader levels.

I COULD search for data for SMA4, but I need to know 1 thing:

Those E-reader stuff, are those already in the SMA4 ROM by default, or do we really need this e-reader thing?
My blog. I could post stuff now and then

We really need this e-Reader, because levels are in that dot code (but all objects and enemies, even e-Reader exclusives ones are in the ROM, so you can say there's only Level Data in the dot code).
But levels, if finished, can be saved to the SRAM.
NO$GBA can emulate it, but for me, i need a real e-Reader so i can test the e-Reader on the Europe version, i have a SAV for the Europe with unlocked e-Reader access (actually, the program it does need for SMA4, can't reach the e-Reader with NO$GBA, but there's a save for the e-Reader with that program, but it's only for US version).

Ah, that will be convenient for the ROM hackers.

Perhaps I should just go hunt random data and dump my discoveries somewhere.

...Unless there is a document about this ROM already?

Wow! this looks really really cool. those are the only words i can say right now...
Finally decided to actully work on a hack. I haven't thought of a name for it yet, and I'm only done 45%.

Some docs :

But for the dot cards, you have to discover it by yourself, with the help of this :

I have the e-reader levels from the .sav file copyRIGHThunter posted on Acmlm's; also I have a very premature SMA4 editor which only edits maps and frequently crashes.Free counters!
Woah, hunting for data sounds useless for me now since someone else is already looking for it. D:

I'm sure you can help, especially with the e-Reader type levels, so we can get the levels to a real GBA, that would be very interesting (also, i will get a real e-Reader, so if it's compatible SMA4 Europe, i can do real testing of levels).
