8-Bit Mario

Link Thread Closed

Yoshi was only 8-bit on the SMW Pirate ROM and Mario is Missing. But, I would recommend making Koopa's and Goomba's 8-bit.

Not sure about Nintendo wanting mario to ride a dino from the beginning
.
Since SMB was finished, they wanter Mario to ride something, but it wasn't possible due to NES stuff, just heard it somewhere... not sure too.

Also, the level with the YI FG is messed up, I'm talking about the Walk through dirt. :O

And... Mario is Missing wasn't for the NES. :P
But I guess 8-bit Koopas and Goombas would be nice...
It's from an interview with Shigeru Miyamoto in Mario Mania, the SMW player's guide.

Q. How do you decide when to make another Mario game?

A. After we finish a Mario game, the staff usually vows never to do another one! But once the game is released, we start thinking it may not be such a bad idea to add another title to the series. We usually have lots of ideas that we haven't been able to implement yet. A good example is Yoshi the dinosaur who just appeared in Super Mario World. We wanted to have Mario ride a dinosaur ever since we finished the original Super Mario Bros., but it was impossible technically. We were finally able to get Yoshi off the drawing boards with the Super NES.

And then there's this sketch in the margins of that page. I don't know if Miyamoto drew it or what:

It looks like they had several ideas, and Yoshi might have ended up being quadrapedal or a pterodactyl.

I don't want to overdoo it. This is also a GFX hack that I will submit.

Oh, and I uploaded a demo to this site.
That demo sorta sucked. In Sewer Mountain, if you fall, you're screwed.
May we meet again outside the battlefield.
I'm going to say that if you go with 8-bit Mario, don't use the Redrawn graphics. They are way too detailed compared to the 8-bit Mario. Use the original so there will be less focus of how different Mario looks compared to the land and more on the game design.

yeah, sewer mountain did suck, I made it to test just about every one of marios frames, minus some, and to try out the anti gravity water.
aww, your hack is gonna be deleted in hack section. =/ Boo
Just back here to browse a bit.
oh, shut up, it is only because Bloodstar didn't really like it.

Self-Denial... or Can't handle the truth?
I wonder what a HFD opcode would do in ASM...
how much more work is in the new demo ( i know not that much work.)?
Yeah, I found no way through in your demo once I reached the 1-2 undergroud level. Mario wouldn't go through the pipe and there was no other way through.
I merely deleted it due to its bugginess.

I quite like your idea, and the intro wasn't too bad either. But please, make sure you've ironed out all the bugs in the hack before you submit it.

No, frustration. The first time I submitted it, I forgot to ISP it, so I asked BBLink to remove it, then I ISP it, and BBLink accidentally removes it. Then I put version that is 10 times better than the first one up, and it doesn't last near as long as the crappy one did. So, crappy hacks last longer than better ones, cool, I'l sumit my other game called Super Intentoinally Screwed Up World, no seriusly, I made one named that.
No, I know the glitch, I just didn't expect that I would need to use it just to get through a level.
When playing, I was actually thinking about the -1 glitch. When I saw the miscolored tiles, I thought it was because my monitor sucks (which it does), but when I realized I couldn't go through the pipe, it was a matter of seconds before I figured it out.

Seriously. It wasn't that hard.
As mentioned, your hack was deleted due to glitchiness. I'd suggest completing Mario's animations and such, and correcting glitched graphics before resubmitting. Your hack is a lot less likely to be removed, that way.

Actually it wasn't just Bloodstar. I recently played through it and reviewed the whole thing. I was going to make a request for removal but then noticed a new version was put up. I hadn't played through that yet.

The older one was so buggy it was literally unplayable. Every level had at least one problem. Several blocks were glitched in the Map16. The green switch was made of water and you couldn't beat the ghost house because the exit door was solid.

I know it's a demo, but it should be reasonably glitch free. As for the idea, I DO like it, but try not to release demos that people can't play.
