Link Thread Closed
eh, its a pretty easy to use tool but i have a little problem...
when i use the [music=*] command, it doesnt want to work with custom music.
why?

Edit: i figured out, block thingys...

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/LrDAD2ZJx3E&hl=es&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/LrDAD2ZJx3E&hl=es&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
this the result.
I do pixels sometimes

@Mr. Krabs, I had this problem, too, and it was because the version of Xkas that comes with Romi's ST is not tha right version. Check the first post for the right one.
Balloon Party.
At times like this, you need to step back and say, "Where's the Balloon Party?"

I have the right version, and it's still not working.
aaaaaargh.

Code
error: tmpasm.asm: line 978{2}: file not found [incbin vwf.bin]
error: tmpasm.asm: line 979{2}: file not found [incbin width.bin]
INIT 008000
MAIN 00807b
error: tmpasm.asm: line 978{2}: file not found [incbin vwf.bin]
error: tmpasm.asm: line 979{2}: file not found [incbin width.bin]

It says xkas reported error, refer to temp.txt and tmpasm.txt. The files are in the sprite folder with everything else, I seriously don't know what's wrong...

I reread the instructions. Apparently you need to put vwf.bin and width.bin in the folder with spritetool. *facedesk
OK, now I'm having visions of some completely dark, depressing reveal in a cutscene, then a silent Course Clear sequence shows up.

I've been seeing some strange [FONT] files in ExGFX section. Are they meant to work with this?

EDIT: An example of what I mean: Click
No - Those are meant to be used in message boxes, level names etc. It would be great if someone made custom fonts for this tool though, as the current one will probably get overused really fast.

(What format is that font, by the way? No YY-CHR setting seems to get it to look right.)

Firstly, I appreciate Golden Yoshi for providing people with a better explanation of how-to for this tool in his post and answering people's questions in place of me. And, since he decided to release it, I also give him another thank-you for beta testing and reporting errors before it even got usable at all.

Secondly, thanks you all who gave it a try for that and giving me some feedbacks.

Like he mentioned, I still intend to update the sprite some time, but I don't know when.
But for now, I release a small tool which I dug up from an old folder that will allows you to edit the font comes with the tool easily with YY-CHR.

First, you run the tool in this usage;
Code
vwffont_convertor.exe -d vwf.bin output.bin

vwf.bin is the font file comes with the archive. After output.bin is created, open it with YY-CHR and set the graphic format to 1bpp. Now, letters are rendered in 16x16 blocks, and you can easily edit the font with YY-CHR now.
NOTE: Although each block is 16x16, the actual available range is 16(horizontal) x 12(vertical). Please remember it.

After you're done, you need to encode the file; run the tool in this usage;
Code
vwffont_convertor.exe -e output.bin edited.bin

Now, the edited.bin (for example) and a new width.bin are created. If it's alright to overwrite the existing vwf.bin, rename the edited.bin to vwf.bin, and reinsert the sprite to actually apply the graphical change. If you even don't care the vwf.bin is always overwritten, you can just directly specify the output path to vwf.bin instead of edited.bin.

Well, since this program is old and I think I haven't tested that much, so please tell me any issue if you found. (I recommend backing the files up first anyway.)
Thankyou for sharing the converter, Romi, it works like a charm.

Backwards lowercase for lulz.

As you can see I have already been playing around with it, it's very useful to be able to edit the font. :)

I fully agree with Kc - Thank you for releasing this useful little tool. :) Here's my attempt at a custom font:

I observed the extracted vwf.bin has some space left, instead of the letters and the symbols. Does it mean I can add other symbols?
I have to say, this tool is very amazing!
The only problem I'm having is actually running vwftool.pl.
I installed ActivePerl, and still it won't run.
I'm not sure if this program is Windows-specific, and if it is, nevermind my problems. (I'm running Ubuntu 9.04 if there's any actual OS problem.)
EDIT: Nevermind about that, I fixed it. The only problem I have now is that it tells me "Couldn't open hello_world.txt for reading".

EDIT 2: Fixed the problem. Had to change a part of vwftool.pl that said "msg\\" to "msg/" so it would work.

Possibly. It depends on how the tool works- I assume it takes the character you typed and turned it into a number, when then goes into a table to be loaded by the sprite. If that's the case, then the sprite will take the symbol code and load the GFX accordingly. The trick is getting the symbol to mean "unused space in the file." You might have to go as far as editing the tool to also check for any other symbol you may have in mind.
After fruitlessly trying to get this working for a while, I finally got it right. And since Romi just released a tool that could change the font it used, I HAD to do this.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/4tKVhYFomss&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/4tKVhYFomss&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

And yes, I forgot to load the ExGFX file. Sue me.
You've made a very good editing font tool for this Cutscene tool, Romi. A tool that's worth to try and to have. Made a video with this font: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/-jXT5SYpVCI&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/-jXT5SYpVCI&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
When I try to download ActivePerl...

"The installation package could not be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package."

Am I doing something different than the rest of you?

Shameful that I got stuck THIS early...

the xkas link on the first post reported a 404 error. Does anyone know where else I can find the right version of xkas? Thank you! Found it. Nevermind.
Where else can you get that version of xkas? The link doesn't seem to work, and I need it.

Here, I uploaded it.
As well as that, the VWF_Converter(.exe) tool seems to be down also.

Just wanted anyone who has it to know.
