Bowser Strikes Back (New level)

Aww...I was hoping you weren't going to say that. D: I'd have to load another ExGFX file, and replace all the FG tiles in the level, which can be a real pain. But I do agree with you that it might fit a little more nicely, so I will try that. I've already made a back up of my level anyway.

But thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it. I'm really glad you are enjoying what I have to show as much as I enjoyed making it. ^_^
Well, looks like it's time for some more updates! :D

Firstly, I have started to become a bit unsatisfied with my original overworld design, so I made some changes. I added some more YI graphics, and added in some more decoration and detail, so now there aren't as many empty spaces as there were in the original design. Here's my new overworld:

Secondly, (many thanks to Maxx for his amazing new custom boss sprite) I have replaced the boss used for Koopa Fortress in the first world with this:

<embed width="448" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="http://i399.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid399.photobucket.com/albums/pp80/J52905/KoopaBoss.flv"></embed>

(Don't worry about the slowdown. I will most likely fix it later.)
jimmy,i'm speechless about it all,but the power-up growing sound sounds awkward with these YI samples, maybe change it?and the underwater level is cool with the grass GFX,i find it fitting really well to be honest;and it's pallete is superb.the boss is also cool, but rather boring.maybe give it a little bit more action?
This stuff is very good Jimmy. I love the Yoshi's Island fortresses and those big hills on the overworld, they looks nice! I don't understand only one thing: the waterfall before the second castle. It comes from...ground? Other than that, it's awesome, I'm interested for the updates in the future!

Unfortunately, I can't really change the power-up sound without removing the YI samples, so it will have to stay. Also, I don't want to give the boss more action because it's the first boss in the game, so I want it to remain fairly easy.

Thanks. It's good to hear that you like the overworld. ^_^ Also, the waterfalls coming from the ground were intentional. I once saw them in someone else's overworld, and I thought they looked kind of cool, so I'm going to keep them.
Can't wait for the demo. I played this hack a while ago, and it was me favorite for a time. Keep up the good work.

But the Ghost houses are pretty bland on the OW. But it's okay.

(Man, I'm such a critic today.)
Wow! your overworld looks awesome!
Thanks for the comments. And LinksPetYoshi, the reason that the ghost houses look bland was because I didn't think the SMW ghost houses really fit in with my OW, so I redrew them, and, well...let's just say I'm not really the best GFX artist. =P I'll probably change them back.

Also, I have some small music related updates for this hack. Here's an original song that I made that I think might suit some of the desert levels in my hack, and I'd like to hear your opinions on it:

CUSTOM - "Deserted" (Song length: 1:22)
I figured I might as well post some screenshots of a level that I'm currently working on for my hack.

Here's the main overworld, showing the name of the level. If anyone has a better suggestion for the name, please tell me.

Here, you see a couple of shyguys and a venus plant. I'm trying to aim to make this level a bit SMB3-styled.

OMNOMNOMNOM!

There's a sideways pirhana plant coming out of a horizontal pipe.

Some more venus plants...

A red koopa and another sideways pirhana plant...

That thin pipe can only be entered if Mario is small. Ofcourse...you still need a P-switch to get to it...

Some SMB3 styled Hammer bros...

And, that's all that I've finished so far. Don't worry if the level looks boring so far, there will be a lot more interesting parts later on in the level.

Also, I have made a new original song for the main overworld. It's very short, but I think it turned out quite well:

"Peaceful Lands"

Any comments?
I'm really liking the sound of that original composition there. It certainly sounds nice and peaceful and is a perfect OW theme. The level itself looks pretty nifty too, and I like the Yoshi's Island graphics you're using for it. Nice work.
The OW looks great and those ss are as well.Great progress!
If anyone needs help with custom Character GFX,PM me.
<Note> You will have to have a progress thread in order for me to work on GFX for you.No random requests.
Nice Level. The palettes are great and your level design is too. :3
I really like the OW GFX. Good job.

meh
Im very interested in this hack!
I also want my PC back to hack again :D

P.D. Hey, what program do you use to make your custom songs? The .mid I mean.

Thanks
Mega Mario:
This is a very nice level from you Jimmy, as always!
Also, the YI mountains on the OW looks just awesome, I love it. And this music is perfect for a main overworld, you're an amazing composer.
The graphics of this level are really good, too, it gives me a totally Yoshi's Island-feeling. The pipey-level concept is a good idea, however, the horizontal pipes should have the same palette, like the vertical ones. Or not? Anyway, this is only a suggestion.
Good job, keep it up, good to see, that this hack is "alive" yet (since lots of awesome hacks are cancelled).
So far I see a lot of promise. The YI styled OW looks awesome, and the first custom boss looks much better than boring Iggy anytime. I also enjoy the original music which also leaves this hack feeling more like an original creation than a rip-off or a slight edit.
I am not a hacker by trade, I am an observer and I can be very observant. I tend to lurk around here to prolong the good experience of playing the original SMW. Whatever can add onto it is something that I will definitely do when I am bored which is often. And I will rarely post and give praise when needed to the hacks that may make me interested to relive memories.

My worst enemy in Mario isn't Bowser but my controller that keeps on getting disconnected from the inside. Might be my memory count.
Have you considitered using the yoshi island themed venus pirahnas instead of the smb3 ones?
Your OW is some of the best I've ever seen, really!.
Amazing job! I'm looking forward to this hack=)
Don't bump threads that haven't been updated for more than a month; the creator of this topic hasn't updated it in two months, and as stated in the forum rules, 1-month bumps or longer are generally not accepted on this site.

I am going to give this thread a close in the meanwhile. Jimmy, feel free to PM me (or any other staff member that has the ability to moderate this forum) if you ever happen to want this re-opened sometime.
That's right. Updates. After 4 months I finally decided to bump this thread again. (Also this is my 1111th post! :D)
Also, don't worry about the lack of updates lately. I'm still working on this hack, I just haven't been showing much of it. Well, I guess it's time for some screenshots.

After the release of Terra Stripe and Roy's Layer 3 ExGFX patch, I was able to import these Layer 3 images into my hack. (Ignore the cutoff in the first image. That will be fixed.) I also started adding some HDMA to my hack! :D

Two new submaps that I made. A cloud one and a forest one. They're slightly outdated but eh. It's also the first time I've used HDMA on the overworld, and I think it turned out pretty good.

I also have a video of the level I'm working on right now. The music I used for it was self-made, so I hope you enjoy it. :)

Please ignore the flashing Layer 3 garbage whenever the screen shakes, I will probably fix it later.

Credit goes to ICB and Sonikku for the flower pot sprite.

And lastly, I have a little SPC I made that I plan to use in my hack. Anyone who can recognize it gets a cookie. ;)
Endless Forest

Well, I guess that's about it. Any feedback will be appreciated.
