SMW Central 2.0 Feature Suggestions

Mass PMs?

Would be nice to send messages to multiple people, especially in team hacks.

(My goodness Kieran from what I've seen so far you might as well be coding a webmail client.)
Slightly well-versed on everything LinuxI'll beta-test your hack. Find me here!
Talk at the session should have a place online that people talk of various things.
About SMW hacking and even normal conversations.
As in MSN.

Obviously you haven't heard of the IRC, about 40 SMWC users (who are awesome) go on there to chat about general things and what-not. Just google an IRC client such mIRC, hydraIRC or ChatZilla (the last one is mainly for Firefox users) and download them. Our server is irc.badnik.net, and we're on the channel #smwc.
Yes, I have a link ti the IRC in my profile so I dont have to download anything :}
More Competitions.
and umm, i have a idea for a competition.

Best Battle Hack.

Make use of:
Custom sprites (NEEDS)
ExGFX (optional, but it would be better)
Custom blocks (if it is something to help you win a battle VS a boss,or a strong sprite used as battle opponent)

outa the way for my critically talks!

I need help with ASM!
PM me if you can help me.

Look at my New Thread in The Forum games Forum!
Name: Super smash bros (final fantasy 2 version)
That just made me think of an idea: a contest forum. It would have a stickied thread explaining the rules of the forum, and another sticky for suggesting contest ideas. Contests may or may not have to do with SMW, they could be about Metroid, YI, Art, a quiz, etc.

You have to have special permission to be able to make a thread in that forum. There could be a sticky where you say what contest you'd like to host, and why you'd be a good choice. If you host a contest and don't finish it, you probably won't be accepted to host another one. If you do complete it, you'd get a badge saying "Successful Contest Host", and you'd be a good choice for hosting another contest.

As for judges, there'd be a stickied signup thread where you state what kind of contest you'd be willing to judge, and hosts would look through and pick some, or none at all if they feel they can judge on their own.

So, what do you think?

I think I like that idea!

How about the ability to edit your hack's screenshots and description?

This would save the time of sending the update to a moderator to do the work. And also if you find a bug in your pending approval hack, you can get it updated before it gets rejected.
Customizable site scheme.

By this I mean like when you make a new user or go in to edit profile, there's are section for site sceme. there would be check boxes where you would check off which things you want in the scheme. ex: banner *check mark*, SMWtips *no check mark*, Google search *check mark*, users on line *no check mark* etc etc.
mabey even be able to change the background color! there would also be a default one. any new scheme "Apps" as we'd call them, would be added on the list of options.

So, I wonder if this is sounds do-able. yes?

The ability to sort users based on rankset. I know it's useless and no one would ever use it, but it would make documenting the Chrono rankset names a lot easier.

You mean like the acmlm board having? I like that idea, but wouldn't
it make evenmore people go for postcount++?

Here are a few that I don't think have been posted yet:

-Limit name changes

-Maybe have a "Featured Hack Log" which is just like the "Deleted Hack Log," except that it shows how the hack became featured and how it stood out from the rest of the hacks.

-Have a section for the File/Hack removal logs instead of condensing them into one topic.

I totally agree.
How about a way to tell what forum a thrashed thread was first posted in.

I have something to add to your idea Swine Flu, i hope thats ok. How about a way to tell where any thread that was moved (not just trashed) was originally posted in.
-Myke

It has come to my attention, now that we're 1000+ files and counting, how cluttered and disorganized the ExGFX section of the site is. That database is a HUGE resource, but in its current state, there is almost no chance of finding the file that best suits your need. Even when you're using finder (which is what i imagine most of you do), things can fall through the cracks, and its hard to accurately narrow down what you want.

The problem seems pretty obvious. As for the solution; here is what i propose -

First and foremost, split the database into 3 separate separate pages within the general 'ExGFX' category; foregrounds, backgrounds, and miscellaneous (files that contain both FG and BG graphics would be placed in both). This would reduce the loading time required to even view all of the files for those of us with slow internet connections.

Second, incorporate a filter system; make some categories such as 'style (realistic, semi-realistic, cartoon, abstract)', 'rip/original', and 'level type (mountain, plain, etc)'. i would also recommend giving users the option to view the file screenshots without clicking on each individual download link.

In addition, i recommend alowing users to make tags for their file, and incorporating a search system.

Finally, i think we can all attest to the fact that there is a wide range of quality in the files available. I suggest creating a 5 star ratings system that appears next to the name of each file (similar to the stars on youtube, but placed as previously stated)

Believe me, i understand how much code it would take to do some of these things - but honestly, its gotten kind of rediculous. if i were to show you a screenshot of one of the graphics files, i can say with reasonable assurance that it would take most of you about a good 20 to 30 minutes to find said file. plus, most of these ideas could be used for the other sections as well, so progress can be made towards any of the other databases as well.

thanks for your time.
Okay heres some ideas:
Get E-Mail notification that you got a PM OR A sound plays when you log on to tell you you've got a PM.
Organise Hacks, Music ect. ect.
Have the ability to make polls.
Have a "Troll Pit" so we can see all the Trolls and laugh...
Make the logo animated.
To make people write a hack review if they want to rate it.
Instead of featured hacks, have a "Hack of the Day" chose at random by Admins the day before.
Fix SMWiki.
To be able to play the custom music on this website, like a built-in SPC Player or something.
I will become alive again sometime soon.

1. I understand e-mail, but why make a noise play? All you need to do to see that you have a new PM is to scroll down, and with some schemes, "NEW" appears below the tip box when you have a new PM that you can click on.
3. Just use this and put it in your sig/bio.
4. Why? Isn't that like the Trash Can? Or is it a forum where only trolls can post?
6. Why? Many people just like to play and rate hacks. If you make them write a review, they'll just write only a sentence or two.

make it so that the creator of threads ONLY IN SMW HACK DISSCUSION can double post. This would mean that he would not have to wait for replies/24 hours to show another update. Yeah only apply in smw hack dis so y'know, no post++

Okay, I have seen a lot of forums. In a lot of them, when a mod moves a thread, it says "moved" at it so when you click it, it goes to the moved thread. But this site, what it does, is they move it, and you have no idea where! You have to look around for it.

Just a suggestion.

I put that in a thread and it got closed.....
Perhaps we could have a little button in the main forums pages that, when clicked, marks all the forums read, instead of going to each forum and marking them read individually.
