Good stuff - I like the Lineland Road graphics, and how most of your graphics follow that same style. I like the village idea - it will be nice to see how it's implemented. Perhaps you could make some sort of town "quest" there to finish the level? Just a thought.

Nice work.
It all looks very nice so far. I haven't played SPM yet because I still don't have a Wii but I've seen enough graphics to know that those are close to the originals.

One thing I'm concerned about though. From what I'm seeing, these levels look quite challenging and this is supposed to be world one. About how challenging would you consider these world 1 levels to be compared to the worlds in the original SMW? World 3? 4?

Good point here. They're not that difficult for me, though I've only finished making THE FIRST LEVEL. Yeah, that's how lazy I am. Months spent working on this hack, and only ONE LEVEL is even finished. But that one level is fairly short, and easy, actually. It's basically just dodge the enemies for the first part. If there's one thing you should know, it's that I'm no good making puzzles. I either make them WAAAAY to easy, or overly hard, to where not even I could beat them. ._. I just can never figure out how to make things hard, but not too hard, with puzzles. Oh well. Just...yeah, not that hard at all. The only "hard" part I see is not paying attention to waterfalls. Seriously, you'll die right before the midway point if you don't remember to jump out of the waterfall. But who would stay in it? :P Oh, and the first part of the level WILL be hard if you try and rush through it. Since if you do that, you might end up keeping a Buzzy Beetle in your hands for too long, or you might run into a Plant. That's about it for difficulty.

S.N.N.: Thanks for that. Glad to see YOU'RE still interested. XD And what sort of "quest" do you have in mind? Also, I haven't forgotten your other suggestions to me. I'll definitely try to get Woah Zone, but I don't want Bitlands. I...just don't think it'd work well.

Hey, by the way, do you guys have any suggestions on other SPM graphics I should grab for my hack? So far, I've got Lineland Road and Castle Bleck, and I'm gonna TRY to get Woah Zone and Yold Desert, but I'm just wondering... Oh yeah, on the subject of graphics, anyone got any good ideas for a marsh-y tileset? With little marsh-y goop you can sink in? Like mud or something? (Lemme explain. The last level of Monkey Jungle, World 5, before the castle is Monkey Marsh. My plan for the level is for it to be filled with marsh quicksand. But I want it to look like mud or something. Like, dark brown or something.) Thanks in advance. And thanks for the feedback.

Sorry for the double post, but two quick updates. First:

Intro screen. The pipe leads nowhere, of course, but the story is supposed to make you assume that it takes you to Silver Pipeline. Please note the updated Cement Block. I didn't like the "X" the block had last time. So I edited it out. Now it looks more like the one in SPM, doesn't it?

Second:

...?!?! Flipside/Flopside graphics?! Ripped it last night. And guess what? With nothing but my Wii, my copy of SPM, and my TV. That's right, I ripped it directly from my TV. And it was hard. H-A-R-D hard. I'm proud of myself for this. They look so much like the ones actually in SPM. Now, since I didn't feel like taking the time to look at EACH AND EVERY BLOCK to see how those green lines were, I just placed them randomly wherever I wanted on MY blocks. I think it looks nice anyways. I'm gonna use these at The Clock Tower, the mysterious final level you can ever reach. Also, I'm not done ripping the tiles. Still have those things from the Outskirts to rip. The things that look like windows of some sort. But I'll do that later today. I couldn't do it last night, since...I stayed up LATE ripping these graphics. ...Oh yes, and I made some Pit of 100 Trials graphics. Don't accuse me of stealing from starman, though. For one, they're in SPM, so I can use 'em if I want to. Second, I told him that I was gonna use them, anyways. He said it was okay for me to do that...even though I wasn't asking permission... XD But still, at least I said I was gonna use 'em. He just inspired me to use 'em.

Enjoy. And more updates later today. Of that...I do not give you my word. Since I might forget or have nothing to show. :/ No sense making a promise you're not 100% certain you're gonna keep, right?

Edit: Oh, by the way, one thing's bothering me- The Ending. Specifically, the Character show, or whatever you wanna call it. Since it uses the original SMW palettes, and since I didn't set up my Lineland Road ground to work with it... Should I simply restore the original SMW graphics and have all my other ground simply be ExGFX files? I'd appreciate your feedback on this, as it'd decide the fate of that thing. If I don't put the SMW GFX back in, I want that thing DISABLED.

I would love to know how you rip from the TV since you don't have the use of YY-CHR or any tile editing programs .. or is there some other method I'm overlooking?

I haven't really experimented with the Wii internet and stuff yet.

I should reword that, then. I open YY-CHR on my laptop. I play SPM on my Wii. I get to the spot where the graphics are. I look, and try to redraw them in YY-CHR. Trust me, it's a pain. I can't stay close to my TV. Or else I'll damage my eyes. I know I will. In other words, I draw from scratch by having something to base the graphics off. I do it sometimes. Not easy doing it, but I do it.

*pokes the edit he made on his last post* Seriously would like to emphasize that problem.
<Adam> I feel like smwc is a prostitute now, because we put up a porn ad for money
Oh, so thats how he does it..^_^
Anyway, its good to here something on this. I'm really looking forward to playing it.
I told you I'd make another update! Look what I did by hand in all of what, 30 minutes or so? Maybe less?

Finally, I ripped that. Took a while to get it to look right, too. I had to make it perfect for any situation I might put it in... Ugh. But I did it. That's the last thing I'm ripping for Flopside. I have no more room.... Seriously. That's the main problem with these graphics. They need too much space. But I guess it's worth it to have something that looks good, huh?
<Adam> I feel like smwc is a prostitute now, because we put up a porn ad for money
That's awesome, pikaguy. I am loving all of your SPM GFX...
Well, I'm officially annoyed with the stuff in the ending sequence with the enemies. Oh no, I'm not having any problem with it. It's just lots of graphical glitches and stuff that I hate. But they're easily fixed. Now I have to worry 'bout something else. TURN BLOCKS. >_< IIRC, the part of the ending that shows Rex... Rex stands on a Turn Block. But in my hack, due to me using an SMB3 coin, and due to it turning into a turn block when you hit it from below as Small Mario when the P-Switch is active, I have the Turn Block as another SMB3 Coin. That...messes up the Rex's platform. Oh well. Anyone got any good ideas on how to prevent the SMB3 Coin from turning into the Turn Block tile when you hit it from below when the P-Switch is active?

On a side note, I have begun ripping Woah Zone. ....Actually, I'm DONE ripping Woah Zone. XD It didn't take long at all. You'd be surprised how easy it was. ._. All I have to do now is put it in a level. :D Of course, it'd look better in a Transparent Layer 1 level than a normal Layer 1 level... XD Seriously, the ground and stuff is transparent in the Woah Zone in SPM, so that made it difficult to decide how to make the color in between the green. But I finally made up my mind. Expect a screen of the graphics soon.... But without the animating blue diamond in the background. And just in case that doesn't make it obvious... I ripped the background diamonds, too. My first SPM background....coming soon! :D
<Adam> I feel like smwc is a prostitute now, because we put up a porn ad for money
I'd love to see Woah Zone - it had a really crazy looking FG, especially in 3D mode.

Also, as for the Rex problem .. there's always the painful solution of not showing the credits at all. You could use the STARSW ending walk sprite and perhaps make a little "movie" to end the game with. Not only would it be create, it would also fix all of your problems.

How would I disable the credits, though? Seriously, if that was possible, I would LOVE to do that instead of try to fix everything about the ending. ...Oh yeah, BTW, you never answered my earlier question. What "quest" did you have in mind for towns?
<Adam> I feel like smwc is a prostitute now, because we put up a porn ad for money
Bah. I remember there was a way to disable the credits, but as soon as it was finally brought up, it was lost from my mind. I would figure just setting which level # uses the credits in the OW editor could do it though - just set it to a level you're never use.

As for the quests .. what I meant was you could make a bunch of houses, and have people offer you certain tasks, like "oh can you go see Toad and bring him this mushroom" In return for giving him the mushroom he would say something like "oh gee thanks here is a key" and you could end the level like that.

Terrible creativity on the example, but meh. That's kind of what I was saying, heh.

Yyyyeah.... Not what I was hoping for. D: 'Cause I want the game to end. Heck, I plan on using the Credits part to explain what happens after you beat the final boss. Y'know, like most endings to games. Happy ending and all that. >_>

I'd probably need to make a custom block or sprite for that, and I'm bad with ASM. ...In fact, I don't know ASM at all. XD

Anyways, thanks for your ideas and stuff. *rushes off to make a level showing the Woah Zone GFX*
<Adam> I feel like smwc is a prostitute now, because we put up a porn ad for money
1.I could fix that with the end Sprite, but you'd need to have a few levels on OW with NO messages at all.
2.Hmmm...

BTW,sorry I still haven't done that block for you.V_V.
Well, here we go. Woah Zone has NOW been fully-ripped for sure (Save for the Pure Heart room, but I'm not ripping anything from there. XD), and I've set up a level showcasing it. Here's pics!

Foreground. This was INCREDIBLY easy to rip. And I DO mean easy. So very easy it was. The easiest in all the game? Please note the blocks Luigi is standing on. Due to the fact that it didn't look right in my hack the same way it looked in SPM, I put a black outline around it. It just doesn't look good with just two simple colors. Also, translucent level = No. You'd have to use a dark grey for the back area for a translucent level and make everything that's not covered by the foreground a lighter grey... Too much time and trouble. So you'll just have to settle for what I gave you in this pic. But is it REALLY so bad like that?

Background. Don't say it's bland. That's how it was in SPM- Lotsa grey, few diamonds. Basically, very very open background. I did that here, too. It was annoying building the background, though. D:

Do you like? I'm thinking of ripping one more tileset from SPM, but what will it be? Heh heh heh... As TLoZ says, "IT'S A SECRET TO EVERYBODY." :P

Oh yes, and I'm kinda still working on the Flipside tiles. ._. The window-like things look better now, but still bad for if I make BIG windows. Ah well. I'll get it one of these days. Right?

Also, still up for requests. If you've got any ideas on some SPM tiles I should rip for my hack (NOT Bitlands!), let me know IMMEDIATELY! Here's what I've ripped:

-Flipside/Flopside (Same graphics, different palettes)
-Lineland Road
-Whoa Zone
-Castle Bleck (First one I ripped)

And, ummm... Cookie to you if you end up requesting the secret tileset I'm gonna work on today. XD (Just don't request for the sake of guessing that tileset, okay? Just...give me real, honest requests.) Also, don't request Yold Desert or Yold Ruins. I'm gonna rip them both in the end, anyways. Yold Desert for my Desert levels, Yold Ruins for my castles. THANKS IN ADVANCE, AND STUFF.
<Adam> I feel like smwc is a prostitute now, because we put up a porn ad for money
Pikaguy, I already created the Yold Desert FG quite a while ago. I plan to submit it soon, so feel free to use it when I do. It can be found here:
Scroll toward the bottom...
Hmmm... Nice, but maybe it could use some more detail... Oh well. Looks good anyways...

...Eh, I feel like showing what I've done so far on my "secret" project. Maybe I shouldn't keep things secrets when it comes to the SPM graphics. I seem to be breezing through them now. The easy part it drawing the basics. (The black outlines, that is.) The hard part is actually getting them to look right with shades.... So, here's what I've done so far:

Yes, Sammer's Kingdom. Hey, why not? XD The actual hard part here is getting the ground under the yellow grass-y stuff to look right. Again, custom drawn, and with my own chosen details. Hey, I can't rip it exactly as it is in SPM. Too hard. So I'll settle for it being how I want it. :D It looks nice for now, but... It doesn't resemble the SPM graphics much... In SPM, the ground looked like it had a ton of detail, almost realistic. This...it just looks like colors thrown in. :( Best I can do for now. I'm gonna try to fix up the palette to see if I can get it looking better. But for now, this'll do. I'm gonna rip ALL of Sammer's Kingdom, BTW. And I do mean ALL. Or rather, just what's in the very first part of it you're at in 6-1... Excluding the bridge.

Am I on a roll with this stuff, or what? Maybe I should submit these graphics for all to use.... No sense keeping my work to myself, right? What do you guys think? Submit 'em or not?

Edit: Also, don't ask why I wanted to keep it secret. I forgot why. I'm sure it had something to do with S.N.N. wanting to keep his Sammer's Kingdom-related thing a secret, too, though...

Would you mind giving us some more information on the storyline? This plot seems rather ambiguous-why do they want to find the Star Rod? And why is Dimentio alive? I'm not criticizing the plot-it actually sounds rather good-but it sounds pretty weak with just this information. What are some other aspects of the plot? (If you can tell us, that is, without spoiling anything)

Gee, both you and S.N.N. have Sammer's Kingdom-related things? I guess Sammer's Kingdom is pretty popular. I mean, it is EPIC WIN and all. To make it look more like SPM, maybe you could move the vertical black lines closer together. At least, I think that would work-I haven't played that stage in a while, and can't check right now.

You can still have credits without using the official credits; make it an autoscrolling level where you can't see Luigi, and the credits/scenes/whatever will go by. Also, have it so you can't hear anything if Luigi jumps or whatever (have him under invisible black blocks while being pushed up by the BlockTool movement blocks. And make the whole scene have a black background, if you know what I mean). I'm planning to use this strategy for my next hack. Yes, for all of you who read my first post in the SMI2 thread about me retiring from ROM hacking, I've decided to give into the people's demands and make another hack...but I'll only start it when my other new project is in smooth production. 'K, I'm starting to get off-topic.

Overall, it looks like a very good hack. Can't wait for the release!
Okay, the story is in progress, so I'll try to sum it up reeeeeal nicely.

First off, the aforementioned Star Rod is the same one of Paper Mario fame. I.e., it grants wishes. Thus, it's obvious that *someone* is gonna go for it to try to use it to take over the world. See Bowser in Paper Mario. :P

Second... I can't say why Dimentio's alive without spoiling the final Rainbow Road level. SERIOUSLY. Speaking of that level, that's Star Palace, resting place of the Star Rod. Weird, huh? :P

Now, story. HATE typing this out, as I keep changing it every time I type it out. So, I'll just give the short short version for now. (Hey, can't give the full one until I get a name for the Yoshi in the story. He loves clocks, and lives in the clock tower...and he can go backward and forward through time.)

Luigi wakes up one morning to find Mario gone. Mario went off to save Peach from Bowser (as usual), so Luigi decides to go on a picnic to the Gem Valley. As he's setting up, Mimi comes along. They chat a bit, and a mysterious white Yoshi appears, asking for their help. He says that someone named Dimentio has been chasing him around wanting info on how to reach the Star Rod. To combat Dimentio, he went into the future, and brought back Dr. Wily. But, since he knows nothing of future events until he sees them himself, he didn't know Wily was evil until it was too late. Dr. Wily sapped the Yoshi of most of his energy, and along comes Dimentio, again wanting to know how to get to the Star Rod. Dr. Wily asks what it is, Dimentio tells him. Wily then decides to go find some way to get to it. Dimentio gives chase. The Yoshi tells Luigi and Mimi that to get to the Star Rod, they must find the 7 Time Crystals (New name coming soon. >_>) Before the Yoshi can finish speaking about what they must do after that, someone attacks and knocks him off the ridge and down into the valley. It is Dimentio. He warns the two not to meddle in his plans, or they'll suffer a terrible fate. Then he flies off, and the Yoshi flees into the Clock Tower, then erects a magical barrier around it. Mimi persuades Luigi the coward into helping her help the Yoshi (Luigi's a coward, so he'd rather not do anything, of course), and they hop into a nearby pipe, which leads to the Silver Pipeline.

Again, it's a story in progress. Parts of it will sound stupid. I can't help that. I don't have that many ideas... ._.

As for the Sammer's Kingdom ground.... I'm getting sick of those tiles. I can't easily redraw the building tiles. For one, I need to have a gradient going from a dark blue to an orange-yellow. And even then, I have limited palette space in which to have said gradient! It's annoying. But I'll try your suggestion about the ground....

I don't wanna waste any more levels than I need to. Besides 104 and 0, all OW levels are taken. Seriously. And few of those are optional. ._. I also have this problem: The game is supposed to end after you beat the final boss. If I try to use some level for the "credits"... Then there's no real ending. The hack goes on and on. And I don't really want that.

Now, a real update.

Well, I installed FuSoYa's SMB3 pipes to a new ROM, and ported my hack's stuff over to it... But I also patched the 2-Player Only and Seperate Luigi GFX patches to it. Meaning I can finally start working on Mimi. ...Did I already say she's playable from the start? I have to do that, unfortunately. I don't want to use LevelASM to make some ASM hack that opens up Mimi for the rest of the game after beating 7-2. So instead, Mimi from the start, just like my story says. If I had any room in that intro message, I'd put "Luigi and Mimi" instead of "Luigi". But I don't. :( Also, new OW player sprite:

PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE PLAYER GRAPHIC IN THE UPPER-LEFT CORNER. ...Seriously, don't. I haven't gotten around to changing the player graphics used by the Seperate Luigi GFX patch. Anyways, that little bubble thing is the new player sprite. Since Luigi and Mimi look nothing alike, I needed to use something that was character-independent, so to speak. Soooo... That. Luigi = Green, Mimi = Orange. The A tells you to press that button to enter a level! Press it? It changes to "OK!". For reals! Sooo....yeah. I'm kinda trying to find all the parts of the Caped (Player) tiles, flying. I think I'm gonna replace the Cape powerup with the Tanooki Suit, though....but then I'll need graphics for that, and I have limited space. >_<

Thanks for all the feedback! :D
