Bonni's Quest

Standard

Meh, I felt like making a thread for this. This is for my upcoming hack Bonni's Quest. It stars a girl named Bonni and her sister Kaira.

Here's the story:

Once upon a time, on an island by the rising sun, a girl named Bonni was walking back to her temple home. She saw a large castle off in the distance, and wondered why it was there. So she told her younger sister Kaira, and they set off to investigate. That started a journey that would soon be told by generations ahead...

All I have to show are the overworld and a video demonstrating some graphics. I haven't even thought about levels, and I probably won't do them until I finish all the graphics.

The first submap, called Shitsuke Valley. That temple-thing is a temple, which is where you find various NPC's and such.

The main meat, the overworld. You travel in a counterclockwise direction, and the waterfall opens up to let you enter the cave submap. Also, a mountain grows at the top to let you ascend to the sky submap. I haven't thought of a name for this land Bonni lives in, so I am accepting suggestions. It has to sound Japanese, so it can fit with everything else.

Now the video demonstrating the player GFX and stuff.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/XZqAuR3MLKE&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/XZqAuR3MLKE&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Don't expect too many updates, as I have a school I attend.
Great work, to say the least; I'm quite fond of the overworld.
I'm not sure how this will play out, I'm not really that interested.
However, if you can make that overworld work, it will be great!

Also, nice work of Japanese numbering; Ichi, Ni, San, Shi, and Go.
Great overworld!

Nice Job.

Yeah, that OW looks really nice. I like the new story and characters, too. As far as I'm concerned, if the story's anything other than Bowser kidnapped Peach and Mario has to save her, it's already at least a 7 rating. I'm looking forward to seeing some of the level design!
This looks pretty interesting, actually. As the other two have said, you did a rather nice job on the overworld. Everything is proportioned correctly, and detailed well. The palettes seem kind of bright though, and remind me a bit of the GBA palettes (which are quite .. well, ugly). I`d just tone them down a bit, and you`re all set.

The in-level stuff is nice too - the animations are smooth, and the little `temple` on the item reserve box is nifty.

Pretty good job so far - if your level design is as nicely designed as your art and overworld, you will have a fine hack on your hands. Good luck.
Thanks for the responses, you guys. I've already toned down the palettes. I also added some clouds, as I seem to have forgotten to add them. Right now I'm working on the title screen, so my next update might be on that.
might i suggest that where the waterfalls on the main ow are,the river it comes out off starts to go wilder when the watterfall starts?this makes it look a bit more realistic then it is already.
Interms of design, i find the overworld really well done.
That map and overworld is looking really nice, I like the use of Japanese letters ;) - but as SNN said, the palette is a bit too bright. Perhaps you could darken it a bit, that'll look much better IMO.

I'm more impressed by the new character graphics though - they look great! Are they custom? Oh, and the status bar, is it final or will you be adding some stuff to it?

Great job Ladida, I'm sure you'll do an awesome job with this :)
Very nice, love the overworld like everybody else. And you should change the hearts in the status bar. Looks a little misplaced to me, but it may just be me...

No one made a name for the land yet? How about Nihona or Hokkaido?
nice Ladida! Everything looks good!
Woah, this hack is going nicely... it is also good to see another hack with a custom character. However, you might want to add shading to the player... you know, to where she isn't so blant. Otherwise, it is going good, keep up the work.
Thanks, guys, I will take your *advices* (is that a word?). Oh, S.C.O.R.P.I.O.N., the player does have shading, though it's kinda hard to see, so I'll just darken it a bit.

I'm just showing how the title is coming along. It's not finished, as I haven't added the actual title. I'm just showing the basic design, though changes will occur if you request them.

Comments? Oh, and I also plan to add HDMA to spice it up, though I have to learn it first...

EDIT: Fixed 'ahve' to 'have'.
[offtopic] It's "advice," I believe.
[ontopic] The title screen looks nice, but do you plan to maybe show some sprites? It looks kinda... bland if there's only land.
I'm going to download as soon as it is released.
Since it looks really good. ;)

Unreal Tournament III [Adept] {Beat campaign on hard}
Guild Wars [sucking lol]
Wow, that title screen looks epic. But what is with the clouds hanging by the ropes?
Title screen = Skywire?
Your layout has been removed.
How did this thread almost reach the bottom of the page?

@ Flandre & spud: I was just testing out different things, but don't worry, if you don't like it, I will keep it certainly remove it.

Not much to show you all, but I'll show you anyways.

I basically ripped off ICB's work and made a bow-and-arrow and sword powerups.

The one on the left is a sword and the right is the bow-and-arrow. I also made a tanuki statue :)

The arrow goes fast, but it has a small hit-detection, so it may be hard to kill an enemy from afar (ironic, since they were made to shoot from a distance)

The sword only appears for a split-second, but it has a large hit-detection. Although it looks weird in the screenies, it looks good ingame. Since it only appears for a really short time, it took me forever to take those screenshots.

Note that they are just ASM experiments, so be easy on me, OK.
Comments?
this power-ups looks awesome!.
i like how this hack its getting, i keep the eye on this
