Description: This is my first ROM hack that I ever made which means that it was mainly a test to get use to Lunar Magic, so be sure to expect poorly designed levels and such. I would rate the difficulty as a 7/10.

Please explain how this level - which required around 50 savestates to get to the second SCREEN - is fair or fun in any way. Actually, don't bother, because we're not accepting it because WE DO NOT ACCEPT KAIZO-STYLE ROM HACKS.

Description: First demo of my first hack. Mario and Luigi must venture into a large archipelago to find Bowser, Princess Peach, and 7 of Yoshi's friends.

Fixed some bugs reported in the Hack Removal Log. Hope you all like it.

REASON:

Dont use these in the lava. It leaves those little air gaps next to them and it doesn't look right

It look too cut-off-ness because there are no blocks there.

don't use brown blocks either, they have the same ugliness

Small pipes in the water also look ugly too.

FTW? o.O

Hovering BB launcher, please fix

o.O

Guess what I'm holding? INVISIBLE STUFF!

Hell to the No

ugly palette blending in

why would you even have that there?

No

no

missing platform piece

I'll give you credit, you at least gave a way for the player to get out, but its still annoying when you can't get any further because you have to find the switches

bg just doesn't fit well

no, please fix

pic tanken again for lolz :P

I didn't bother playing anything past that because i have more than enough evidence already to decline it. Please make sure everything else is good past this point before you submit it again.

Description: The Rom Hack is pretty much finished. Every level is finished and polished and I have played through them all several times (believe me! I spent about a year creating this, I've played it threw a few times). It's still a demo because i'm open to making changes if I see people review it and they make a good sugestion. I am also aware that the event tiles for the overworld are not perfected and that the castles dont get destroyed, and the message boxes that display the image for the Switch Palace. These are all minor things that I will fix after I get a few reviews in.

The Rom Hack starts off with a completley redsigned overworld! The first world is more hard than fun but from the first castle foward it get's a TON more fun. Don't get frustrated and give up on the first World! There are a few times when you are not allowed to use save states (whenever you see a half-way point). If the player does use save states the level becomes less fun and/or challenging. The story line is unique and creative and it takes shape after the first castle. There is a bonus area (screen shot) that if you figure out how to get to will give you the ability to skip giant parts of the game, but you will lose story line doing so. Feel free to review, I welcome it and after I get back all the feed-back I will release the final versian (but like I said the few things to change are mostly minor graphical stuff). ENJOY!

My YouTube Account is TheProgramer64 and I walkthrough ever level of the hack showing you how to beat it just in case your stuck.

Description: Here is my fisrt hack that im uploading.

Only thing I inserted was custom blocks..... :( I don't Like ExGFX

any way here ya go!

---

FS4 and I netplayed this one. Pardon the larger screenshots, as we had to use printscreen for them instead.

After flying up here there ended up being tons of stacked munchers and cutoff for the tree.

In many cases, such as under Mario, there's actual ground that you can't see. On the far left though, he falls through.

There appears to be no way back up from there, and following the blue coin exactly leads Mario to a pit.

Spike Tops don't interact correctly with the slopes, so they get stuck like this.

Not only do the slopes use a bad tile at the end, but the section became practically impossible due to the difficulty and lack of time.

ST's note: This hack seemed fairly cheap at times in terms of traps, and wasn't very generous on time as seen in the final area. I'd recommend you fix up some of the glitches before submitting.

---

When you start this level from the midway, you have to quickly dodge the shell that the koopa kicks at you.

*their
Also...use punctuation marks.

This only happened once, so I'm not sure what caused it.

Kicking a goomba straight up at this point causes this strange glitch.

This hack has cutoff all over the place. Also, the black "brown" block has a horrible palette. You should also use a message block to explain it's purpose. It took some trial and error to figure out that it was an "enemy only" block.

We had to carry the Pswitch all the way to the end to beat the stage. Since you can't backtrack, you are required to die if you forget it. Also, the hallway before the switch is packed...and almost impossible to pass as Super Mario.

Cut-off arrows.

FS4's Note: This hack needs some serious work. A lot of secondary entrances have a high FG/BG setting, which should be fixed. There were incorrect corner tiles in every level, as well as cut-off tiles. The cave level had an incredibly low timer, and the ice part that Supertails pointed out was horrendously hard.

...suddenly disappears when I move closer, not to mention, what's up with the "3" block gfx?

what the thwomp? o.O

fix please

the koopa seems to change to the blue koopa gfx, if your holding something and ducking

its way to easy to get crushed and die here, please fix.

Description: This is my first hack that got deleted MANY times. So Enjoy!

If you mean deleted by SMWC many times, I can see why.

I try not to be all doom and gloom when I start moderating a hack. But when I saw this in the first level, I knew I wasn't going to like what I saw.

Moving onto another level; If I ride this little thing, I'll get crushed under a bridge and fall through it to my death.

I was able to spin jump my way to oblivion. I personally don't find that to be good design, so try not to do that.

As soon as you enter this portion of a level, you've got a koopa kicking his shell at your head, with little reaction time to get out of the way. Quick and sharp players can avoid this, but not everyone.

This little... hole? leads straight to your death if you jump into it. Try extending the cliff edge all the way down so that it actually looks like a hole.

These vines just sorta grow outta nowhere. Stick a block of some sort under them, or stick vines there that are already grown. (Just make sure they're not floating!)

Fix the colors on this, please.

I forget why I took this screenshot. Maybe it was to signalize that there's a "bounce on these perfectly or you die" thing coming up.

I kinda see where this is going, but it's not a practical idea. With bullet bills being shot at you while you bounce off of the note blocks, the reaction time needed to get this thing working in your favor is a little too much.

Katelynn's note: You're off to a decent start, I will say that. You've got a sense for challenge, but it needs to look decent and be at least a little possible for those who aren't experts at Mario games.

Description: I put a lot of effort into editing this.
Story: Mario, Luigi, and everyone else were transported to the Unknown Islands. Now Mario and Luigi, AKA Red and Green, must save Peach (Pink) from the evil spirit that took over Bowser, Raikon.

This hack was... pretty bad, to be honest. Not the worst I've moderated though. I didn't find any coins to pick up (the ones I did get were from yellow koopas) or any powerups of any kind.

This is a lie, it's not much of a maze... more of a "run straight, jump over this wall, GOAL!!". Also, I spy some cutoff in the bushes.

Some more cutoff, and some odd colors on the glass blocks.

In Chuck Woods, this message appears. It's no joke. There are a LOT of Chucks. So many in fact that the game was in slow down mode almost the entire level. Also, you hit the yellow triangle for your victory jump, which leads into...

This. You jump high above the goal post and get crushed in the ground, dieing. This makes it impossible to go any further than the third level in this hack.

I decided to check out Yoshi's House. I got this message out of BOTH message blocks.

I... I hate it when people do this. I'm sure most people do, too.

You're given very little time to get out of these guys' way. Also, bad grammar alert!

You need to get through here without dieing. Of course, this is too long for you to get through.

You need to get through that last level to activate the yellow switch. Otherwise, you're dead the second you start this level.

I couldn't get past this part. I noticed in your screenshots that you had invincibility, but your level was so poorly designed that I could skip over pretty much all of it and get here without finding a star anywhere.

This level is named "dangerous!", but I don't see why. This is it, the entire level in one screenshot. No enemies, no coins, nothing.

I'm not sure what's going on here. It looks to be an unedited level with a different background.

Why put munchers over lava?

Again, I'm not following this idea very well.

The graphics need a little work here.

Katelynn's notes: I gotta hand it to you, you've got the idea down that cutoff is a bad thing. Fix these errors and do some more changes to the levels and we might have something we can host.

P.S. Sorry for spelling error's if there are any.

Here's Why

This hack was pretty decent, but there are quite a few errors holding it back.

*I'm *finally *box! *Thank

Pipe creates holes in the dirt.

*Caution: *poisoned
Also, I suggest you use ExGFX if you plan on using the ice blocks that have munchers in them. I didn't know those two ice blocks were dangerous until after I got hurt.

Block off the bottom of the diagonal pipe so Mario can't get stuck.

The center of the hills is discolored.

Use coins to lead the player when using a blind jump.

There is garbage at the top of the screen. Raise the BG's starting position.

It will help the player if you change the color of the correct pipe here...since you don't have time to look through them all.

All the secondary entrances in this level need to have their FG initial starting position lowered.

Don't use a surface jumping fish when there is no surface for it to jump.

You have a teleport block here...but the pipe right above also leads to the same area. Remove one or the other.

*dried

What? Also...the player is required to pass the Yellow Switch Palace to continue.

Gnarly Yoshi.

Blatant level edit.

The player has no idea where to guide the brown blocks, and there is no reset pipe.

Make sure the player can't reach the bottom of a diagonal pipe. Also, it is incredibly hard to get out of this pit. If you want the player to die here, make it bottomless.

Lotsa slowdown.

>:[
Remove the invisible ? block.

This spike is spikeless. Fix the sprite memory settings, or remove a few sprites.

The lava is super bright here. Also...it seems odd to find lava in an outdoor grassland section.

I encountered a bit of slowdown here.

Blood red arches hurt my eyes.

Shift the bush one tile to the left.

Un-edited SMW level.

As soon as you come out of the pipe, you are hurt by this Urchin.

The player can bypass your fish gauntlet by swimming over the wall up above. Add a ceiling to prevent that.

The secret Ghost House is largely unedited. The only thing changed is this and the boss battle.

I like the idea of having a blue koopa kick a shell to you...but if you kill the koopa...you're screwed.

Yoshi is not compatible with fireballs.

^^

Blatant level edit.

^^

That fish just swam through the rope O_o

Un-edited SMW level.

Super hard to get across here.

This is why these blocks never traveled where Mario could touch the sides.

This jump was even harder. I had to take a hit to continue.

Description: King bowser kidnapped the princess and taken over one of the kingdoms in dinosaur land as mario you must stop boswer save the princess and dethrone King bowser and Defeat his koopa kids

Here's why

This hack has improved quite a bit since my last moderation. However, there are still quite a few problems that need to be addressed before this is accepted.

If you MUST use this trick, don't force the player to die. Instead, make a platform that is too high to reach without the block, or some other tactic. The player should NOT die as soon as they start the level.
Also, this level was extremely flat. Add some terrain.

Lots of slowdown in this area.

The corners lack proper tiles.

Cutoff-ness. Use proper tiles.

I'm sure Andy will like this little shout-out. But yeah...don't you think this is a little rude?

You haven't fixed this problem. The player shouldn't get penalized by touching a block that is not explained at all throughout the hack.

Pipes create cutoff in the water.

If the player runs out of time here, they are forced to die. A reset door/pipe fixes this.

Lots of slowdown here.

The castle was total bull crap. I'm not kidding...I cannot stress how many times I died here. This hallway felt like it never ended. I suggest you scrap this idea, as it is brutal. You practically need the cape to pass it...so it only takes one hit to do you in. Just about impossible without savestates.

Use the candle generator sprite.

All in all...I like your new additions...but there is still a good deal of work that needs to be done.

We recently implemented new Hack Submission Guidelines. This hack does not meet the following guidelines:

Originally posted by Hack Submission Guidelines
3. No graphical glitches!
Errors such as garbled sprites/FGs/BGs, message box text screwing up layer 3 items, cutoff tiles, and general graphical ugliness are frowned upon. Also, don't forget about glitches such as sprite memory issues - the graphics of the sprite will 'disappear', but the sprite will still be there, and can unfairly hurt Mario.

7a) Keep it fair, and keep the hack at a legitimate difficulty!
i.e. Avoid things like death after the goal, blind jumps, forced damage, excessive enemies, places where you can get permanently stuck, excessive 3-UP moons, etc.

These are blind jumps - the player could easily die if they don't land in the right place - use coins to lead the way to safety.

You really should apply both of the Classic Piranha Fix Patches - red-stemmed Piranha Plants can cause a rare glitch with the game's VRAM, corrupting it. Another issue the extra patch will fix is the issue with Piranhas biting the player as he comes out of a pipe (not very fair).

If you put coins on top of blocks and hit the block from below to collect the coin, it will create a solid invisible block where the coin was. Move these coins up a tile.

I got stuck in this room without a P-Switch. I couldn't find a way out. Make sure the pipes have an exit enabled.

I went down this pipe and suddenly had to fight Iggy. When I beat him, the game was over. I guess this is the end of the demo?

The following aren't reasons for rejection, but they would make things better:

Nice OW! However, there were a few sketchy path tile reveals. Look at them again and see how strangely they uncover the path.

Your Turn Blocks and Brick Blocks often have overlapping graphics for various things, like with Throw Blocks, bounce block graphics, etc. - see if you can separate them by changing hex addresses or by using Pieguy's patch for fixing this.

The palette for the game select text could be better.

Grammar for message boxes could use a proofreader.!

EDIT by Sonic/pikaguy900: GOOD WORK?! To those reading: THIS IS A BLATANT THEFT OF MY HACK, EVERY LEVEL IGGY!.

This is pretty good for a first hack; You're on the right track to making something good, however there were a few issues I noticed.

This is in Roy's Castle. You get to here after you enter a pipe with a feather sitting on it. I (stupidly) missed the feather and had to kill myself. I would suggest putting the feather on the blocks under the pipe that you come out of.

There wasn't a whole lot to screenshot, cause again, it's a decent start. Some other issues were major slowdown and camera issues. The major slowdown happens when there are too many sprites on screen. A lot of your levels suffered this. Camera issues were present in nearly every level. I want you to go back and fix these by setting both the foreground and background initial position to the same thing. (Fiddle around with it until you find what's right, and this can be found in the "Modify Main and Midway Entrances")
