Vanilla Level Design 2009: Discussion

Link Thread Closed

VLDCDiscussion

Well, I want to see wht you think of my level, Ultimaxius. I'm not expecting much, since mine really was a kind of rushed job.

Darkrai: Triple Terror, so named for the three Yoshi coins you have to collect... Or was there more?
Wow, I'm excited to see the results soon, as it's almost the end of the month. :D
WOOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ME WANNA HAVE RESULTS!!!!!!!
*gets unpatient from knowing this*
Meh, it's still about a week, so I think I can keep occupied with my LP until then.

We should be allowed to submit our levels into the Hacks section, right? There are plenty of one level hacks on this site right now (at least one is featured, by the way) so a level from this contest should be allowed, especially if it's a long level, like a lot of us probably have made.

well i think that only the winner is allowed to do that
I do pixels sometimes
Those hacks were submitted before the new rules. Most of these levels are too short, but I'm not sure how long it should be for it to get accepted. Plus, few would want to play a 1 level hack.

I've been very busy, so be patient for my Word Docs.

I don't think you should submit them to the hacks section because most of these are good quality and we'd end up with a massive influx of one level hacks.

I'm plowing my way through the list. Didn't realize I had so many left....Remind me to not judge next year.
Is there any feed back on my level? Just asking.

Maybe next year something different should be done with the judging, especially if the numbers keep increasing.

If there are a large number of judges, you could have each one only judge a portion of the levels. The only thing is you'd have to be very specific on the grading.

After that's done, have the top 10 ranked ones get rankings from all judges to get a more fair estimation of their score.

That would get a basic range for all of the hacks and a specific top grouping that would be graded very carefully to select the winners.

I'm sure there's other solutions, because having each person go through 60+ hacks has to get boring after a while, and its obviously quite time consuming.

Also, this way judges could have their own levels included, and just have others judge them instead of getting them to judge themselves. If a judge makes it to the top 10, everyone else judges it and then multiply by whatever necessary to compare it to the remaining averages.
Or you could have the same thing like the Overworld Contest where you can take part in different contests like a Vanilla contest, a Water Contest, etc.

Yeah, that would be cool, but I don't think that the mods would support so many trophies being given out (darnit!)

Well, only 1 day until the results! I can't wait to see who won; there were some awesome levels that were submitted!

Just have a few different categories with judges for each, and the winner of each goes to the finals.

YES! The results are almost here! Only half a day to go!

By the way, has there been any feedback on my hack lately? Here was a screenshot of it made for the Screenshots and Videos thread 2.0. from over a month ago.

----------------

Good luck to everyone that entered and may the best level designer win. Whether I win or lose doesn't matter to me, I had fun making my level and thats what counts. The results are almost here (hopefully everything's been judged by now)

Me too. It obviously has to be because all of the judges hard drives crashed at the same time! All of the levels will have to be played again</i>.

But seriously, if they don't have it done yet, it better come in the next day or two. It does not take over a month for a few people to play 63 levels (unless they haven't found all of the exits in mine, hehe).

I wouldn't be surprised if it was many. GVirusG's Caramel Cave had 13 exits.
