Let me clear something up about the levels.

If you want to leave them all level 0 with the "Level has been Passed" flag, then fine. If you want to name each one, that's even better. I am completely open to either - I would just prefer if you did the second one. Besides, even the level names can help spice it up.

As I said, totally up to you. I won't really be judging that.

So if you include good level names, they MIGHT bump up your score?

I'm guessing you won't lose points if you do the whole level 0 thing then.
well i guess since I'm not finished with it.Count me in!
THIS IS MY FIRST HACK DEMO!!!

Cool! An OW Design contest! I want to participate. My Overworld is in 60%. Perhaps in the next week it will be ready.

pikaguy900 (MatthewPZC) may also be judging it. It's a fairly easy contest to judge compared to some of the other ones.

Panga: If you go out of your way to make creative names for each and every level, I will probably bump up the creativity score a bit. This is still something that I think people should do anyway though :\.
Question about the rules:

Can I submit more that one overworld in one category?

Can I do a main overworld and two submaps?

I already finished my overworld...
Now with extra girl and extra hacker
I finished! Here's the page link:

I hope you like the names and design!

Man, this looks even better them my hack's original overworld!
I should switch them...

By the way, the pipe by castle #1 is just for teleportation usage, If this was used for real, that pipe would not be there.

No - you can only submit one overworld. If you have already made two, or plan to make two, pick the best one.

It has to be six submaps for the second category. Since six submaps = the size of one main map, it would be unfair to judge someone who did 1/2/3/4/5 as an equal to someone who did all six.
So that means no events of any kind, and it really doesn't matter what level numbers are used as long as they are all different? (I'm also assuming we don't need to edit the actual levels at all.) And does that also mean no exit destinations for the tubes?

I'm working on a hack! Check it out here. Progress: 64/95 levels.

No, I meant a main overworld and two submaps in the same hack. I really like having an area where the music is different and the palette is different. It gives so much more... feeling. And I also like the idea of being able to scroll the overworld. Therin lies my request.

Oh jeez, I forgot to ask a question.

Would it be okay to do just one very very VERY detailed submap? I don't think I have enough inspiration to do a full overworld or 6 separate submaps...

As I said, you can do the first two things if you want to, but they aren't required. As for the tubes .. well, if they are required to 'progress' though the map, then yeah, they should have an exit destination. While your levels don't need to have events or names, they still need to be connected in some way, shape, or form.

I guess you could do this. You'd probably be making it harder on yourself, but if you want to do it, then by all means go ahead. Again, just leave a note when you upload it so that I don't forget that you made two submaps.

uNkNowNeRRoR5642: It would still be unfair for the people who made six detailed submaps, so we can't do that. Sorry.

Say hi to Sunshine Isle. <3

I will have a go at the contest

im a new userbut i have made overworlds for hacks for a long time
Not to sound rude, but you guys that keep saying your really good at overworlds, could you stop? We will let the judges decide who is very good at overworlds ;) Thanks for listening.
I suck at overworlds but that's no reason for me to not join.
Here's how far I've come:

(and outdated video)

So yeah... It's a jungle/forest themed ow.
(Why hasn't anyone used custom GFX yet?)
It looks good so far, but if you changed the normal trees to some jungle trees, and add some hills it would look very nice :D

For what it's worth, I'm planning on using custom GFX. ;)

It's too squared out, add some curves and decoration, and maybe some low-lands where the land isn't so high above the water... The forest tree's are too lined up and should be spaced more with some angular perception put in, and the World 1 map picture does not load.

Pic 1: Too square- it's probably based off of SMW's main overworld.
Pic 2: It's a square with few decorations.
Pic 3: You need to modify your placement of the trees so everything looks neat.

You can fix all of these by adding in some curves and purdy decorations.
