Alt Mario [release]

Standard

I started screwing around with Lunar Magic some time ago and started a semi-serious project. It was mostly just for people from an IRC channel I frequent to play (which is why the levels are named after them and there's some silly in-jokes you probably won't get). Once it was done, I was planning to take all the decent levels and make a proper, serious project. Sadly, I never got around to finishing it.

It's been sitting idle on my hard drive for some time now, so I figured it's probably worth releasing in its present form anyway, since there -are- some good levels in it. While the earlier levels are a bit n00b-ish, things do get alot better later on (just ignore yoshi's house completely, pretend it's not even there, heh).

It's pretty much error free as far as I'm aware, other than the odd very minor graphical glitch and the occasional red/yellow level dot mixup. I never got the hang of Overworld editing, so that's mostly unchanged. There's no ExGfx either. All levels up to the Forest of Illusion have been replaced. Also the special levels too.

Meh, I'll review it. It sounds like you put some work into this hack, and as such, it deserves to be played.

Thanks :)

I wasn't sure whether to upload it to the submissions bit or not, due to the not-so-great earlier parts and the fact that it's unfinished. If it turns out to be half decent and shows potential, I might even finish it one day, maybe give the starting section an overhaul as well, heh.
If anyone finds bugs, let me know. I've just found a fairly big one with a level using lil' sparkies/hotheads with a moving layer.
I'm not sure if it was my ROM, or yours, but there were lots of glitches on the OW, and bosses. Plus, 3-ups should never be easy to retrieve. Other than that, this hack could be a good one.

Whoa, something's screwed there. I tested the patch and it worked on my ROM. Maybe I used the wrong one. The overworld should look more like this:

It's probable that the rom you made the patch with wasn't clean. Make sure to get a totally unedited one for the base to make the patch with.

Anyway, judging by the first level in the video, I'd say you had some good ideas. There were of course the glitchy sprites, and some long, boring inclines to go up/down, but for each of those you had a good section (like jumping through the turnblock platform at 1:09).
