Overworld Paths

Hey everyone. I'm new to this and I've already encountered an issue I can't find anything about here.

I know the gist of having level markers and how to link them to custom stages, as well as Mario paths. But here's my problem: You know how in the original game, when you beat a stage, the path appears and Mario automatically goes to the newly opened stage? Yeah, I can't get that to work.

And what are all those events on the window that pops up on the level properties? Usually, Lunar Magic explains things when you hover over it, but the entire list of events confuses me. ^ ^; Can someone help out this lost cause? I'd very much like to make a presentable hack.

Those are "layer 2 events." If you want a detailed explanation, look at the LM help file on the subject.

To implement them, go to the layer 2 editor, and cycle through all the events with page up until you hit the last one. Select everything and delete.

Then, go to the event number you want to show when your level's completed. Open up the "layer 2 event tile selector" in the editors tab (or the path icon on the toolbar). Look through that until you find a tile you wish to place. Place all your tiles in the exact order you want them to appear in. When done, save.

Then go to layer 1 editor and select your level. Set the "event to activate" to the event number you just placed tiles in (note: secret exits show the level's event number +1. Plan your events ahead of time so you don't have any problems). Then, go to the level that the path leads to, look at that big dropdown menu, and highlight the event you used earlier . Press ok.

Finished.

(PS: there's layer 1 events as well. Check the LM help file to see what they do. You should delete the old ones when you start making your OW just like layer 2 events.)
Thank you, that all worked. Minor note, how do you make Mario move on his own to the new spot?

Set the "Direction to enable when a normal exit is used" value to the correct direction, and make sure that the level you're using isn't one of the few where Mario won't walk after beating it (Change No-Auto-Move levels, Overworld menu).

For each new thing I learn, I always somehow find a problem with something else. I can't make the next level appear. I can make the paths appear and Mario walk over them to the next stage, but the stage marker doesn't appear at all. =/ I'd like to read the help file, but my computer isn't opening it at all. > <; I hope this will be my last noobish question, because everything else seems pretty straightforward.

Also, thanks, yoshicookiezeus, I've got that problem straightened out now.

To make a level tile appear, first find the event that you want the level to appear on. Then, in 16x16 editing mode, Alt+Right-Click on the level you want to appear. Then, in the "Reveal this level on any of these events" field, click on the event that you want the level to appear on. Hope that helps!

Uhh... what?

Dude, SMW hacking isn't the easiest thing in the world. Compound that with the fact that I can't understand your post, it makes it reeeeeally hard to help you.
