Pokey's Adventure (New story)

Link Thread Closed

Standard

Well, who knows when this adventure is taking place. Mabey Bowser has been cocky for so many plots that, he's starting to catch on...? =/
Haaaaaach, I see your point, but I still think Bowser would have no reason to kidnap Pokey's brothers if he just wants to tease Pokey, saying "Ha ha, you won't defeat my army!" or something. Letting Pokey test the strength of it is at least a bit reasonable in my opinion.
If anyone comes up with a better plot than mine (which shouldn't be that hard), feel free to let me know. ;)

Also, I worked on the level "Amapola Ghost House" today, and it's almost finished already! :D If I keep on working that fast, world 2 will be finished by next week or so. I'm quite confident either a demo or a trailer will be released at the next C3 - unless I take another long break, that is. :/

I'm glad to know that - can't wait to give Demo 2 a go. By the way, do you have any screenshots of the level you're working on? Or don't you want to reveal every single level of the next demo to the public? I'm just asking this because I'm kind of anxious to see some more stuff from your levels - if you don't want to show off stuff from every single level that the second demo will contain, that's okay as well - I was just wondering, heh. :)
Oh right, screenshots. :P

The start of the level. Seems you need a springboard...

How to get that P-Coin?

And how about this one?

No springboard here... instead, you need a P-Switch.

Multiple paths! :O

The left path leads here, and eventually to a small cave.

When you take the right path, you'll meet a big Boo!
Both paths lead to the P-Switch, but only the left one has P-Coins. :P

Now you can enter the pipe! It finally leads to the springboard.

By the way, I kept both the SMW background and music... I just couldn't find fitting GFX/songs for ghost houses. I hope that's not frowned uopn... :/

Yeah, that's it... If you're lucky, you can see the first screens of "Amapola Waterfall" tomorrow or in 2 days.

Comments would be nice, as always. ;)

Seems like you made quite some improvements on the level design since the last demo, which is nice, as the levels in the first demo were a bit too linear, to be honest (no offense).

Anyway, it's nice to see a little bit from your level design - this level looks like a lot of fun, as it contains lots of areas to explore, etc. The several small puzzles you added throughout it also give it a nice touch. Keep it up. ;)

Oh, and by the way... Amapola Waterfall? This level's name sounds rather cool - can't wait to see the first screens of it. :3
Perhaps a new gohst house background? I see that bg way too often

Harm, that you can't find good music for the ghost house, but I'm sure, that the complete game will be really cool. :)
Thanks!
By the way, I'm planning to upload another video tomorrow - I just thought I'd let you know. Also, I'll maybe be posting minor stuff in my new blog - the link is in the sig.

oops! Sorry, that's understandable. It's the level that counts!
I could compose something for your ghost house, if you want. (Just as soon as I figure out how to use @#$&#%!! Addmusic.)

----------------

I'm working on a hack! Check it out here. Progress: 64/95 levels.
Another new video! :D

Nice looking level. Although, I can't say I'm too crazy about tricks that involve spin jumping off of enemies to reach new areas. This one looks a bit tricky since you have to balance off a dangling staircase over a pit, and reach a pretty tight area. I hope you don't overuse that.

Also, why is the cave area a lavender color? Were you going for a specific type of look? Otherwise, I think it looks a bit strange.

I do like the outdoor area though. I usually don't see too many haunted areas in tropical locations, so that's a nice twist.

I won't overuse that trick, don't worry. ;) It's just in that level.

I've imagined this area having a pink-ish color ever since... I don't really know why though. Well, I'll try out different palettes and see which one fits best.

That's a really nice level. You have different themes in there, so that's good for variety.

Also, I recognize that boss battle from somewhere...
It was in your level that you made for the Ghost House Contest right?

EDIT: Read the description on Youtube :P
personally, I enjoyed the cave pallete. It gave a dank-"your safe now but your still in the gohst hose" feeling.
I worked a bit on "Amapola Waterfall", the second-to-last level in world 2. However, I need some opinions on the look of the first part:

It's a waterfall near a cliff, so the first screenshot's more realistic... I kind of prefer the one without the dirt in the background, though.

What do you think?

This is a nice idea, but the Background Color looks wierd.

By the way, I gaved up hacking SMW. I think I'll come back, but not yet. ~ X-King
X-King is right, this looks a bit odd with the blue background. If it was a real waterfall, there would be some kind of surface behind it.
Yeah... Kinda empty... does this use layer 2 or can you use a background?
