i agree i found that video on youtube before i made this account i think and i though it was awsome (the melting ice cavern)
Your layout has been removed.
Dispari you constantly amaze me. I am wondering, if HeIsaEvilGenius is your partner why hasn't he posted on this thread? I just love stretching the potential of SMW to make it fit like an actual new game.
I am not a hacker by trade, I am an observer and I can be very observant. I tend to lurk around here to prolong the good experience of playing the original SMW. Whatever can add onto it is something that I will definitely do when I am bored which is often. And I will rarely post and give praise when needed to the hacks that may make me interested to relive memories.

My worst enemy in Mario isn't Bowser but my controller that keeps on getting disconnected from the inside. Might be my memory count.
He doesn't visit the forums much. Mostly just when I point him at things. I've posted his levels and music so he hasn't had much of a need to comment here.

On to updates, we're about 3 levels away from a demo. But the levels are coming slow since both of us are busy. We did get some new backgrounds to use, but still looking for a few foregrounds for some levels.

We still need help with a level ender block or sprite. What we're looking for is a block/sprite that mimics vertical level goals. Mario freezes in place and the score is totaled, with no fade or screen walk. Hopefully we can get help with this, or the demo will include some dumb looking, often miscolored goalposts.

Also, I'd like a little input on enemies. We've added a bunch already, but I'm interested in hearing what people think. Are there any SMB, SMB2, SMB3, YI, or even SM64 enemies you'd like to see us add? Nothing too complicated (like many YI enemies), but we are planning on having the little mousers, which would follow Mario and jump occasionally.

Lastly, a question on shyguys. Do people prefer the SMB2 or YI shyguys? If SMB2, they'd be rideable and pick-up-able (for authenticity). However, I do wonder, should we use classic colors, or koopa-style colors (red, blue = stays on ledge).
For a level ender, have you tried out Smallhacker's "Beat Level Instantly" block in the custom blocks section? I don't think it'll do exactly what you're looking for (I've never actually used it) but you wouldn't have to deal with goal points.

While YI Shy Guys probably fit better with SMW's control scheme, I'd be super psyched to see SMB2 carryable Shy Guys. I'm surprised no one's attempted to code those yet, now that we have the carryable egg for a base. I prefer SMAS colors for Shy Guys, but if you're having more than two varieties of Shy Guy, Koopa colors might clear up any confusion on which type does what.
We have in fact used Smallhacker's block. It ends the level too abruptly for our tastes though. Touching the block immediately throws Mario to the overworld with no score totaling or anything.

For the carryable shyguys, mikey recently posted a YouTube video of SMB2 enemies redone so that they're all carryable and rideable, with a Birdo that takes 3 eggs to kill, but has yet to post the code for them.
Wow its looking really great. I just have a couple things i wanna say. Are you gonna change that giant goomba to a classic looking goomba because not to sound negative but the giant new gommba looks weird :P. And is that giant goomba a monty mole where you ride or is it a a actual jumping on killable enemy? I like everything else, I hope to play your hack when you release it :D
Check out my profile for awesomeness!
The giant goomba graphics will remain as they are, because we're keeping SMW goomba graphics, so it wouldn't make sense to use SMB3 giant goomba. And it's not a monty mole, it's a slightly modified giant shyguy. So you can stand on him, but kill with spinjump or 5 fireballs.

your wet/dry level kinda reminds me of one of my own levels, good job though :)

AS IF I KNOW WHAT TO PUT HERE.

I've always thought the score to be completely useless in SMW and wouldn't personally be bothered not seeing the points collected from the timer, but I can see wanting at least some sort of fanfare for beating a level. I love the double sized Goombas. No way those should be changed to look like SMB3 Goombas. I hadn't checked mikey's youtube account for a few days. Ha ha! I guess we play the waiting game for him to release all those SMB2 sprites...
I would love carryable Shyguys. I made it a public statement, earlier, that I would die for somebody who has coded many of the elements from SMBII USA including vegetables and Shy Guys that can be carried. Please do your best, Dispari.

I would love to see more SM64 enemies in there. Perhaps a King Bob-Omb as a custom boss, possibly a small penguin as an enemy. Not too many people, possibly because of technology, think of SM64 enemies.

However, I would love to see SMBII USA influenced enemies. That is possibly my favorite Mario game, as I am sort of sick of playing SMBIII Fangames. I also love the idea of an unconventional goal at the end of each level.

Why not steal the idea of Super Mario Adventure and have Reznors at the end of each level? Then again, I cannot really help you. You shall do your best.

I also must ask, Dispari, if you have played Joe and Mac II: Lost In The Tropics. That also has great graphics and is a great game in itself.

If you want a block that also does the timer scoring, use purplebridge001's goal block. I think that might work. Troopa pride had a block like that in Kirby's Yoshi's Island Quest.
May we meet again outside the battlefield.
I Found a nice site for ExGFX BGs.

Small update with new pictures of the beach level, which finally has a background.

Sunset.

Some water.

On your suggestion, we played it. It was really hard so we lost after only doing about 5 levels, but I did see some good scenery. I'll play through it later to find good backgrounds and foregrounds to use. Thanks.

Yeah, we've been using this site as well as ripping some of our own. This page is quite useful.
Oooh. That BG is awesome!
From where did you rip it?
Someone gave it to me, but I think it's from Mario RPG.
Hey,can I have that BG?It's very nice.
yeah, its from mario rpg, and the hack looks awesome
All my user bars and junk are in my Bio so read it.

Oh wow, I just love how that dark water fits with the sunset BG. The status bar appears to be flawless as well. In the second pic, it looks as if the palm tree is growing out of the pipe. It's not a big deal. Just decided to throw that one out there.

Not really an update, just some videos because I like making TAS runs. If you don't like videos or don't want the levels spoiled, don't watch. =p I didn't get any secret exits or anything, I basically just breezed through them quickly.

It should be available when the demo is released.

I intentionally minimized the status bar colors so we wouldn't have to worry about flawed palettes as much. The only thing I really ever have to correct is if something is on the red coin colors.

For the palm tree, I know, but it looked weird not having any trees near pipes so I did that. Hopefully people will know it's supposed to be BEHIND the pipe. If not, oh well.
Dispari, I actually have beaten Joe and Mac II a bunch of times. I was asking, though, as that series isn't really all that well-known nor the sequel definitely. It is very hard at first, but it gets a lot easier once you figure out everything about it(I can't tell you how many times I died in the game). Glad that you enjoyed a look-through though.

My favorite were the small dinosaurs at the very beginning, when I was very young (Note: Personal) I tried imitating them with the musci playing in the BG.

So as to not make it totally OT: Not many levels start with Mario coming in the right, and that is interesting. I also like the music, though I do not know where it is from.

I am largely impressed. The Ivies, the Tweeters, the squishable SMW goomba sprite. Also great are the other new things, I don't recall a koopa literally popping out of its shell before. I also like the blue coin idea.

I am also largely impressed by the second video. I love the Adventure Island series, BTW ever played a fully translated version of Adventure Island 4? I have, though never could beat it. Such an underrated series.

Thanks for impressing me, Dispari and HeIs.
