Mario and The Mushroom of Power *New submap's plus GFX*

Standard

This is a new project of mine, well, new side project.

Storyline: Bowser broke into the Mushroom Museum and has token the most powerful and valuable artifact of all, the Mushroom of power. Mario, help us. Please! (Toadsworth says this)

This will have the following:
- ExGFX
- Custom Blocks, Sprites, and Music
- Hex editing
- ASM and HDMA if I learn how to use these two things

I have some screenies of the first level:
(captions on bottom of each pic and the top of the screenshots, I don't know really why it does that.)

This first stage has no name right now.


You start out in the air, on a block


Mushroom in the top block, there's coins on top of the blocks with eyes, but I already got them.


Overlapping Mushrooms, I had to make the edges where they overlap.


First location for Yoshi coin, can you find it...of course. :)


Second Yoshi coin, also, you can escape from this pit via invisable noteblock. ;)


Third Yoshi coin location (that's all the yoshi coin locations I'm reveiling. ;] )

OH! It's a mid-way point, also, make sure you bring the P-switch or you'll have to come all the way back here. ;)

Look pretty good. Actually, with the Dark BG like that, it almost feels like the FG should be a bit darker too.

Just my opinion though. Great job otherwise.

What happens if you hit the P-switch right there?you couldnt go back to that since it would've already been hit and gone, and you'd be stuck and forced to die. Add a reset pipe or Reset Door around there so you dont get stuck.

You did notice that they are there to guide the player, so they most likely will disappear?

I'm loving the graphics, I'm reminded of Super mario Galaxy (Which is no bad thing).

One thing though. You should never put coins on top of ? or turn blocks (And I'm assuming those eye blocks are one of those)?
Hit the block then jump to where the coin was. You'll know why.
Those blocks with eyes act like cement blocks so there's no chance of that happening. ;)
Thanks Ultimario, I forgot to put in a reset pipe, I'll do that right now, and nothing will happen if you press it right there, you have to bring it to the the end, then press it. ;)

Just change the level type to Horizontal dark FG level, or something like that.

Second Level, called Floating Gardens:

The beginning and it's morning.


First Yoshi coin and Mushroom Bananza.


The first floating garden you come to.


More mushroom bananza.


A big garden but it's not too long and balant, there's enemies in this garden.


Some of the hills have layer priority enabled as you can see.

Defeat the Hammer Bro on the platform to be able to continue, the path to the right is the way to the goal, the path to the right, I'll leave that a secret. ;)


Another Yoshi coin location


A water hole, nothing really special down there...or is there?
It will stay a secret until the demo. ;)





There's alot of enemies in these small gardens: Chucks, Koopas, Volcano Lotus, Pokeys, Moles, yeap, alot.

Level 3 - Riverside Stroll


At the very beginning, there's a Yoshi coin.


Second Yoshi coin location, you have to slide down the hill, then jump to snatch it. ;)


How do I get up there?


Noteblocks to the rescue. :)

This is looking great,but there are some things I don't like.See,I don't know if it's just me,but,on the third level,I don't like those pipes.I don't know,but it seems they're a little too(I know this won't describe it,but I can't think of any other words)unreal and cartoonish.Just my opinion.

And,on the fifth screenshot,the eyes of that hill look extremely weird.It seems like a man with a bad yellow eye .Strange,but that's just me.

Are those water-top tiles made by you?They look nice.

About the map:I think you should make a new one,not just twaek Yoshi's Island.I think it would be a lot better.

The hills, that's the way the eyes are suppose to look.
The water tops are not by me, they came with the ExGFX tileset.
I will make a new one, I'm starting to not like it myself. ;)
The pipes, they're also what came with the GFX. :)

Very well,if it's supposed to be like that,then it's quite nice.Also,do you have any ideas of a new OW(submap,or main OW maybe?) to show us?Because that would be nice.

The team hack's going well, Weegee tried to post pics of his level but it wouldn't let him for some reason. Dimentio has it right now. :)

I'll show a pic of the new OW/submap later, hopefully before today's over. ;)
