Hack Removal Requests

Kill Mario's Keytastrophe. With fire. I want that demo gone with the wind, never to be spoken of again.

Epic drama, come on, bear with me >_>
Um, OK, I guess. Keytastrophe is finito.
Thanks - I had planned on uploading the next demo later in the week, so I wanted that one out of the way, heh.
Woah, I got scared and thought you canceled the project....
i tried the Mario Goes to Heaven demo. you start at Bowser and the level is Vanilla Secret. could this get deleted?
EDIT: you should always lock your hack. unless it is a base hack.

I second that. you start on Vanilla Secret 2, battle Bowser and then nothing happens.
Then I got into Lunar Magic to see the other levels and they are all short, easy and simple levels.
Done. It was stupid anyway........
Delete Mario's Destiny. I don't care what other people say about it. I'm only getting bored of it around here.
Guess I'm deleting Mario's Destiny, then. And after all the trouble we went through getting it up...
I request the deletion of NSMB remake demo. It is not only a remake, but a poor one at that. Bowser Jr. is a Charging Chuck, numerous things are replaced with springs, and spots are left in where you need to wall jump, even though you can't. It just demolishes everything SMW and NSMB stand for in a single hack.

Yes, I did see a request like this near the top, but I don't know what the response was. Either way, I added some more reasons.

Oh no! A remake that isn't completely accurate? We'd better delete Super Mario Bros. DX, Lost Levels DX, and Super Mario Bros 2. DX as well, since they're not exactly like the games they're based on. I really don't understand why the existence of this hack offends you so, alexnobody.

I remade the game as accurately as I could in the time limit I set for myself, and that meant making sacrifices like not coding an actual Baby Bowser sprite or actual pipes which shoot the player upwards. (Not that I have the ability to code such things now, either) And please, point out a place where you got stuck because you couldn't wall jump. I do plan on releasing an update with some fixes to world one and some new levels from world 2 pretty soon, but it's still not going to be up to the ridiculous standard you've set.

I can understand wanting to un-feature it. It's short and has several graphical glitches. I thought it would be helpful to feature it since it has a new Mario and some original environmental graphics which people can rip, and it has some value as a base hack. But completely deleting it? That seems unnecessarily harsh for something that has more changes than many full hacks hosted here.
It seems alexnobody hates remakes...

Wait.....isn't it clearly against the rules to make re-makes anyway? This hack is pure 100% failage. It's a re-make, and not a good one even!

And you other reviewers: don't be so generous towards these things! We're here to make new levels, not **** up the old ones!

>_>

Anyways... I don't think icegoom's hack should be deleted. It's a great hack (it can be used as a base ^_^) and if you don't like it, alexnobody, I respect your opinion, but there's no need for its deletion. Also, all the GFX on this hack are made by icegoom. I don't remember where I read it, but he had to watch videos of NSMB at Youtube and try to make his GFX from that. It's just awesome and all of icegoom's hard work shouldn't be deleted just because you dislike it.
I didn't make all the graphics. There were a few rips available at MFGG when I was working on it, so I used those wherever possible, but I did still have to color reduce them and touch them up to get them to work with SMW's palettes. I was watching youtube videos to see the levels themselves because I didn't own the actual game. I've been able to fix all the earlier inaccuracies by viewing the levels with Treeki's NSMB editor, so the next release should be better.
Oh well, but still, it took a lot of work. Say, when will be it released again?

Just because of being so off-topic, I need someone to replace this with this. It's an updated version with no glitches at all. >_>

Also, could you change the "exits" to 9, instead of 7?
Thanks. :)

I'm thinking the next version might go up to the world 2 tower. I'm just kind of picking at it every now and then, so a release isn't exactly imminent.

Are you sure that version's glitch free, darklink? There's no text to the intro message, and you start off at Yoshi's Zoo instead of the old starting point. There are unrevealed paths above and below Yoshi's House, so you'e able to move on to Death Peak or go back to Forest Maze, but there's no way to get to the old first level, Shy Guys' Domain. If that's all intentional, I'll change them out.

I did consider requesting Lost Levels, but not because it wasn't "exactly" like the original, and neither with this one. It's that so many things are wrong that could quite easily be changed.

Think about it. Bowser Jr. is very much like Boom Boom. Isn't it possible to directly rip Boom Boom anyways? And why leave in the wall jumping spots if you can't wall jump? Even if you can't fix them, just get rid of them then! No need to make players think that there's something in that direction only to realize that they've just wasted time, trapped themselves, or killed themselves. I could say much more for Lost Levels DX if you want.

In the fortress, there is a spot which you have a choice: walljump up the left, or jump through the perilous right side with the deadly spikes. If you leave in what look like a choice, only to leave one side a dead end, I'm sure you will be leaving in other such spots, right?

Why are you talking about graphics? I don't care what a game looks like, as long I don't go blind. If you wish to allow graphics to the public, make a straight graphics hack.

Value as a base hack? Strange to see someone wanting their work to be copied by others. Either way, no one will, if for nothing more, than because it's against the rules, isn't it?

More changes than most full hacks? Like what? The OW and levels have been changed for certain, but have no other hacks before it? Unless you mean the graphics, I've no clue what you mean.
I bought a cactus. A week later it died. And I got depressed, because I thought, Damn. I am less nurturing than a desert. -Demetri Martin.
Do you even know how old Lost levels DX is? That hack came out almost 3 years ago. Probably before you we're even around SMW hacking. It represented how hard work it actually takes to actually rip from a game, and featured the hammer bro before sprite tool came out. Our views on remakes have changed since then, so it's a great archival hack.

As for you not caring what a hack looks like. Sucks for you because you don't see good art when it's there. If you actually read and understand icegoom's point, then you see he's trying to change the graphical base of SMW. More or so to stop these trash and broken hacks from coming here. And if you know how to read, you know that if a person makes a hack for ripping gfx from, or a base for others to work on, then let's see.................THEY GET TO USE IT AS A BASE AND RIP FROM IT. There's a rule on not using OPEN SOURCE STUFF?????, C'mon now. "Go back to school" said Cpt. Blue........
Exactly. You're perfectly able to use a hack as a base if you have the author's permission. When has there ever been a rule against using open source stuff? And why in the world would you find it strange that anyone wishes to provide the public with resources, alexnobody? mikeyk could have kept his sprite hacking knowledge to himself and been the only one with custom sprites, but instead he chose to make Sprite Tool and allow everyone to enjoy them. S.N.N. could keep all his music making expertise to himself, but instead he fills all sorts of requests. I can't program, but I'm a decent pixel artist, so allowing people to use my graphics is my contribution to the community.

I just don't understand this aversion you have to graphics work, I guess. It's all well and good to put hours of work into good level design or an ASM hack, but if you spend the same amount of making original graphics, you haven't done any work at all? Graphics are part of the experience of playing a video game, whether you like it or not. So yes, a good portion of the work I put into the NSMB remake was graphical stuff. Your idea of a perfect NSMB remake is something that has NSMB's exact physics but SMW's graphics? Well, I'm not capable of programming such a thing. So sorry.

Really, I'm not going to delete this hack, so I can't see that anything fruitful's going to come of cluttering up this thread discussing it. If you actually want to help improve the NSMB Remake instead of just whining, hit me up with a list of the "many things that are wrong that could quite easily be changed" via PM. Of the two suggestions you've already made, firstly, there was no Boom Boom sprite when I made this. One exists now, but it's not publically available, so even if I got permission to use it, I couldn't include a sprites folder like I did with the first release. Secondly, the "dead end" you cite is not a dead end at all; it's an alternate path to get a Star Coin.

Gah, this is entirely too much typing for what was essentially an abandoned project anyway...
@icegoom: Oops, my fault. >_<
But I "fixed" that.
I need someone to replace this with [urlhttp://darklink898.googlepages.com/luigilastdesire2.zip]this[/url].

Also, could you change the "exits" to 9, instead of 7?
Thank you. :P

All right, replacing Luigi's Last Desire. Just so you know, though, there's an exit which takes you to an endless bonus game at the end of the vertical climb with all the Chain Chomps in Prehistoric Secret.
