comments after a |

Estradasphere - The Bounty Hunter | stays solid and interesting all throughout, almost like it's telling a story.

T-Square - Takarajima | one of those songs that just feels good to listen to because of how light-hearted it is.

=======

Honorable mention: CobaltBW - Incredible Machinery | CobaltBW good

=======

Kid Lib - Yeah Uh! | cool ideas but takes forever to develop them.

Levin Minnemann Rudess - Frumious Banderfunk | goes all over the place in a way where I don't know what to expect next, it's interesting

Frums - Options EX | has some cool bits but I feel like there's a lot of unsettling-sounding buildup in between.

Blind Guardian - A Voice in the Dark | indifferent towards metal, it all sounds the same to me #ab{:S}

TwinCity - Maybe I'm Just Tired of Love | not a huge fan of "talk rap" with a simple beat in the back, personally. I will say that it's more interesting than a lot of other "talk rap" I've heard, especially with the vocal backing later on, but I still feel like there's not much going on musically.

Starting to treat my notes like those wine freaks who go "oh this is a cabernet with hints of chissle and water" but if they'd never had wine before.

YES
Ruby My Dear - Robinet
holy fucking shit

Casiopea (ft. T-Square) - Fightman
Highest effort shitpost music

NO?
Ada Rook - 5H4D0W H34R7Z
God, I kinda feel like this goes basically nowhere and it makes me sad cause a lot of the stuff in this is really fucking cool in a vacuum (it's also really edgy, bonus points)

Vanessa da Mata - Ai, Ai, Ai...
I think my mom would enjoy this

Francis M - Mga Kabayan Ko
From the first 30 seconds i thought this would be...... VGM *dies from cringe* (objectively worse type of music that shouldn't get taken seriously)

NO
The Weeknd - Out of Time
This is an AI generated song based off of a sample of all pop music in the [Insert Decade Here]

Maria Luiza Jobim & Daniel Jobim - Wave
I think my dad would enjoy this

McKinley Dixon - Never Will Know (feat. Micah James & Gold Midas)
I'm literally not saying anything, but go off I guess
Casiopea (ft. T-Square) - Fightman
Maria Luiza Jobim & Daniel Jobim - Wave
Good set. Probably my favorite one so far.

1. Vanessa da Mata - Ai, Ai, Ai...: Gonna go learn Brazilian Portuguese real quick
2. Ada Rook - 5H4D0W H34R7Z: This immediately made me think of those cyber goths from that one video. They would annihilate the dance floor to this
---------------
3. Casiopea (ft. T-Square) - Fightman: This is light years above all of the T-Square and Casiopea songs across both tourneys. THIS is what I wanted from them. They're just hanging out
4. McKinley Dixon - Never Will Know (feat. Micah James & Gold Midas): This has a really cool beat, otherwise I wasn't super into it
5. Ruby My Dear - Robinet: My brain didn't process most of this UPDATE: I'm in a call with friends and got to hear this again. Now that I actually did process this I think it's quite good
6. The Weeknd - Out of Time: Never been a huge The Weeknd fan but this song's okay. He definitely has better ones, though
7. Maria Luiza Jobim & Daniel Jobim - Wave: Elevator music (in a good way)
8. Francis M - Mga Kababayan Ko: This one got boring pretty quickly

Next set of votes from me...
  • Ruby My Dear - Robinet
  • The Weeknd - Out of Time

And some commentary...
  • The Weeknd - Out of Time... has an unusual kind of ending. 3:35 seems to be the end of the standard track, then... it goes into some sort of piano solo that lasts until the end. I gave in to curiosity to see just what the heck that was doing there... only to realize it doesn't appear to be part of the actual song, and is more of whatever that video did.
Fightman and Never Will Know

VOTES:
Casiopea (ft. T-Square) - Fightman
- I'm a big fan of how the event this was performed at was called "Casiopea vs. The Square".
McKinley Dixon - Never Will Know (feat. Micah James & Gold Midas)
- The drumline in this is super cool.

EVERYTHING ELSE (in order of best to worst):
Francis M - Mga Kababayan Ko
- Goes hard.
Vanessa da Mata - Ai, Ai, Ai...
- Goes hard.
Ruby My Dear - Robinet
- A bit too manic for my tastes, but I can respect it.
The Weeknd - Out of Time
- Goes hard.
Maria Luiza Jobim & Daniel Jobim - Wave
- Goes clean.
Ada Rook - 5H4D0W H34R7Z
- Goes?
VOTE #1: Ruby My Dear - Robinet | This is really good holy shit. Insanely good vibes all around, I don't even have much else to say.

VOTE #2: McKinley Dixon - Never Will Know (feat. Micah James & Gold Midas) | Great beats backed by great flow. Fantastic energy all around. Jamming.

* * *

-Casiopea (ft. T-Square) - Fightman | This has immensely good vibes. Insanely fun energy,.

-Maria Luiza Jobim & Daniel Jobim - Wave | Very background-y but really chill. Nails what it's trying to be but it's not my thing.

-Francis M - Mga Kabayan Ko | I'm a sucker for 80s-90s corny hip hop. Not good enough for me to vote but it's nostalgic.

-Vanessa da Mata - Ai, Ai, Ai... | Very vibes-y but didn't grab me too much. Much like Wave.

-The Weeknd - Out of Time | Very vibes-y but didn't grab me too much. Much like Wave.

-Ada Rook - 5H4D0W H34R7Z | I like the chorus orchestra hits which remind me of 80s-90s Eurodance, a genre I like a lot. But the rest of the song is really basic and repetitive. And then she starts screaming (really badly).

PRE-REVIEW JAM: Macho Man Randy Savage - Be a Man | Hulk Hogan's days are counted, man. He ain't got much left once Randy comes after him. It'll be worse than that time that audio leaked.
McKinley Dixon - Never Will Know (ft. Micah James & Gold Midas) - good energy, awesome live instrumentals, love the drumming and trumpet especially. Lyrics also flow really well verbally.

Ruby My Dear - Robinet - absolutely fantastic
---------------------------------------------------------------

Casiopea vs T-Square - Fightman - where was this t square in the last set lmao this is fantastic, wouldve voted for it if the set was any weaker

Mga Kababayan Ko by Franics Magalona - fun 80s styled rap track in a set with way too many top songs.

Vanessa da Mata - Ai, Ai, Ai... - very smooth and fun to listen to

The Weeknd - Out of Time - some good smooth stuff, gives me fleetwood mac vibes, even if its obviously still different. Definitely has heart put into it.

Daniel & Luiza Jobim - Wave - this is okay, i think itd work in like ballrooms n stuff

5H4D0W H34R7Z - i disliked this the longer it went

very good set this time

-------------------------------------------
pre review jam: Macho Man Randy Savage - Be a Man - BE A MAN HOGAN
Ruby My Dear - Robinet: Bonkers, feels like it loses itself a bit sometimes
Vanessa da Mata - Ai, Ai, Ai...: I think I decided to nominate this when last tourney ended and I don't remember exactly why, it's really good though, I love her voice like hell and she just goes off in this one

Ada Rook - 5H4D0W H34R7Z: this is so fucking funny
Maria Luiza Jobim & Daniel Jobim - Wave: Doesn't really stand out within its genre but it's a really sweet listen. I appreciate the overgrowning Brazilian music presence in the tourney, even in this very set!
McKinley Dixon - Never Will Know (feat. Micah James & Gold Midas): It's decent. The beat is really bangin'
The Weeknd - Out of Time: It's good and I love Abel, but he has more interesting (and less corny) songs
Casiopea (ft. T-Square) - Fightman: Really don't care much for this, especially not for the portion that's just a collection of unrelated assorted melodies
Francis M - Mga Kabayan Ko: Doesn't have a lot going for it, kinda feels like it goes on forever
It's easily the best thing I've done
So why the empty numb?
Casiopea (ft. T-Square) - Fightman (this is fun as fuck)
Ruby My Dear - Robinet (im tripping)
