Custom Graphics: Problems with ExGFX and Map16

Hello everyone! I am having some issues with custom graphics. I have read through countless help threads, tutorials, similar questions, and YouTube videos. I have inserted my graphics, but I cannot for the life of me get them into a non-jumbled, usable format for use in Lunar Magic. This seems to stem from the palette differing from the level palette, as well as 8x8 translation lacking detail (not to mention attempting to get this over to the 16x16 side…). I am trying to add the graphics into level C7 and a few others, for reference. I am admittedly fairly new at this and not very good at working with Map 16 - though again, I have used all the resources available and cannot seem to pull off what I’m attempting. Any thoughts or tips?
Your problem is a little hard to figure out from here. Are you making graphics yourself, or are you trying to insert ones you downloaded? If you've read the ExGFX guide (which I assume you have), which step is going wrong? What do you mean by "lacking detail"?

The general idea is this:
- graphics files contain 8x8 tiles, and you can load them into a level. (Sounds like you got that working.)
- depending on which slot you load the file in, the 8x8 tiles will have different numbers.
- by arranging four 8x8 tiles and assigning them a palette, you create a Map16 tile (that's what you place in the level).

If it's the drawing process you're having trouble with, how are you going about it? Could you post a screenshot of what your graphics look like?

Thanks for the reply! I’ve been trying to work through this and I’m stuck. I will upload screenshots later, but essentially what I am pretty green when it comes to custom graphics. I used a tool to create .bin and .pal files for a few items. For reference, I am attempting to get a custom logo on the “Nintendo presents” screen, and custom SMW text logo on the title screen (think Grand Poo World, with Barb’s custom intro logo and title screen logo). When I put these in the graphics files, I can copy and paste from the 8x8; however, once I do this, LM will not let me use the graphics in the level. I have tried assigning the graphic to all slots in the poison mushroom, to no avail. Once I use the palette files for the ExGFX it absolutely wrecks the level as well. It turns everything black. I’m sure I’m doing something wrong. I have tried everything from the guide, we well as attempting the “Give me presents” trick that allows pasting. No avail there either. I’m a visual person so I feel like if I had someone to walk me through it once , I’d be fine. Otherwise, I’m stuck. ;)
