1. Marvel vs. Capcom - War Machine
This sounds excellent! The instruments, panning, echo, it all comes together. Can't think of a single nitpick
2. Sonic Adventure - Leading Lights
A cool, unique track with some fun syncopated rhythms, really close to the original too. The drums sound great. Awesome work.
3. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 - Training Mode
Really clean work. The echo doesn't quite sound right on the drums and tenor sax, it kind of muddies up the lower end, but it can probably be remedied with the FIR filter, or turning it off for those channels. But it's an awesome port overall.
4. La Keyboard XYU - 07_00_06
Really cool port, great use of vanilla samples too. Think this one would have benefited from being sampled since the original has a very distinct synth bass sound, but you did an excellent job with what you had available.
5. Mario Kart Double Dash - Mushroom Bridge
Awesome vanilla port, sounds exactly like Mushroom Bridge but SMW. Maybe a little bit more echo would give it something like the sense of space in the original, but excellent job.
6. Katamari Damacy - Lonely Rolling Star
Cool cover overall. The thing that immediately sticks out is that the samples in the original instrumentation have really abrupt release time, here they kind of linger so it doesn't have the same punchiness. The square lead melody similarly is missing some staccato and pitch bends. Still, good effort, with a little more care taken w/r/t the note releases and staccato you could definitely get it pretty close to the original tune.
7. Final Fantasy X-2 - Memory of Lightwaves
This sounds like a really tricky one to recreate. A lot of nice details from the original are recreated quite well like the synth blurps and good use of the pianos. The pads sound perhaps a little clumsy, since they're handled very delicately in the original. The ending is unfortunately rather jarring, with the echo feedback creating some unpleasant effects. I recommend messing around with the FIR filter a bit to get some control over the echo feedback. That aside it's a very nice port and definitely an ambitious song to enter.
8. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles -Promised Grace
Definitely recognizable as being from this soundtrack so good job there. However it's missing some of the fullness and energy of the original. Two big things that could make it sound closer to the original is more emphasis on the percussion, especially the tambourine and getting better reed instruments, since the samples used lack a lot of bite and buzziness. Of course it might be hard to find a decent samples for
crumhorn, but maybe a high quality sax sample would suffice.
9. Kingdom Hearts II - Dearly Beloved
Good job on the instrumentation and dynamics for the most part. The honky tonk piano sounds a bit inappropriate for the tone, which unfortunately subtracts from the intended effect.
10. Pikmin 2 - Perplexing Pool
Pretty faithful in a lot of ways, the mix feels maybe a little bit off, with a lot of the parts in the higher pitch ranges taking too much prominence. Overall it's quite accurate to the original.
11. Kingdom Hearts - Dearly Beloved
Sounds pretty good for what I'm guessing is an unsampled port? A lot of the original's volume fades and dynamics seem absent here which makes it come across as a bit flat, so it doesn't have the intended emotional impact.
12. Sonic Mega Collection Plus - Extras
I don't think the vanilla samples were a great fit for this sort of track, that aside a lot of the held notes get a bit gratting as there's no variation to them, some subtle tremolo or vibrato can go a long way to keep things interesting.
13. Sonic Adventure - Invincibility
There's definitely something lacking here, without the rock guitar riffs it sounds quite empty. Besides that the rhythm part is inaccurate.
14. Persona 4 - Heartbreak, Heartbreak
Was going to say it sounded oddly empty, but after looking up the original it's just missing too many notes to sound much like the same song, unfortunately. I know chord sampling can be a pain but a lot of the time it's the only way to pull something like this off, especially when so much of the song's character comes from the harmony of the closed chords. The original also has a much more staccato feel to the playing, which is absent here.
