It is the year 2004. You return home after seeing the Spider-Man 2 in theaters with friends, unaware that you just finished watching the last great superhero film. You throw your sassy Tinker Bell backpack (with "Don't talk to me until I've had my pixie dust!" embroidered on the front) at the door and head to the den, opening up the bottom of drawer of the family's entertainment center. As your mom listens to OutKast's "Hey Ya!" on loop, you pull out all four of your gaming systems to decide what version of Crazy Taxi you want to play. This will be the happiest moment in your entire life.

Your challenge for the ninth quickie SPC Contest is to port or remix a song from a game made for one of the following sixth-generation consoles: Dreamcast, GameCube, PlayStation 2, or Xbox. Note that this excludes older games ported or emulated onto those systems whose music is a direct copy of a song from an older generation (e.g. the Capcom Classics Collection or the NES titles in Animal Crossing). New remixes of older songs (e.g. Super Smash Bros. Melee remixes), are fine, however.

  • Your submission must work with AddmusicK 1.0.8., which you can download here.
  • #default / #optimized are not required, nor are global songs, SFX or optimization; if it inserts, it's eligible.
  • Entries submitted must be your own. Entries that have been directly converted to SPC (e.g. using SPC2MML or similar tools) are considered plagiarism and will be disqualified. You are still welcome to use tools like PetiteMM or IT2AMK, so long as they are not used for direct conversion; that is to say, you put effort into creating/modifying source files and/or the MML, and the resulting SPC is distinctly the result of your work.
  • Send your submission to my PMs in a .zip, .rar or .7z archive. Your submission must contain your MML file, the generated SPC, and any samples you may have used (excluding any from AMK's default or optimized sets).
  • Do NOT reveal your submission in any capacity to other people until voting has ended and the results have been posted. Those who are caught doing so will be immediately disqualified.
  • All ports or remixes need to be made during the contest period and not before.

You have 120 hours to make your entry, which puts the deadline at Wednesday, March 23rd, 5:00 PM GMT.

After that, I will compile the entries and we will begin the voting process in this thread, after which we will hand out the appropriate trophies and prizes (game genie codes). Finally, you can use this thread to ask any questions you have.

That's about everything so...get to it!!!! :O
In terms of a "remix," are we allowed to somewhat remix together songs into one for an entry (similar to how Fleet of the Gods did so), as long as all songs mixed are from the Gamecube era?
Given that the entry follows all the rules, that sounds fine to me.
Can't wait to see a port/remix of "The Untrained Demon King Ultimate Legend" and/or "Amitie and the Flying Cane" from the PuyoPuyo Fever series, because I always want more PuyoPuyo music in this site.

Oh well, good luck making music in this contest!

I've got a song I've been meaning to port for a while, and this is the perfect opportunity.
Enter the Gizzverse is out. Let's get weird.

Slowly inching my way back into kaizo life.
Are multiple submissions allowed?
We are not accepting multiple submissions, sorry.
Is it okay if the song only inserts by removing sound effects and global songs (by editing the list files)?
That is fine, but please include your Addmusic_list.txt and Addmusic_sound effects.txt used in your submission.

Okay, thanks for clarifying!
#wario{>:|} Thank you for not exploiting the period of time where I forgot to close this contest.

And officially, submissions are closed! The voting period will begin shortly once all the entries are compiled.
SPC Tourney Bracket Round 1: Set A

As per usual, you cannot vote if you submitted one of the entries. For the rest of you, you must rank all the entries from best to worst. Top entry gets the most points (14), all the way down to 1 point for your least favorite entry. Your rankings should be based on the quality of the entries and nothing else, and not for arbitrary reasons (how it fits in SMW, author guesses, Prima Guide quality). Comments aren't required but are appreciated.

Voting will be open until Monday, March 28th, 10:00 PM GMT. Now put in those component cables and jam out!
Had quite a time ordering my Top 3 here. This is a great selection of songs in general; I didn't outright dislike any of them. Don't take it personally if your song's near the bottom, because none of them are bad.

1. Sonic Adventure - Leading Lights: This is really unique, and it's the kind of thing that I could listen to for a long time without getting bored. Very nicely done! (14)

2. Sonic Mega Collection Plus - Extras: Not a whole lot to say about this one. It's one of those songs that just feels good to listen to, y'know?. (13)

3. Marvel vs. Capcom - War Machine: REALLY good. I love the samples that were used here. (12)

4. La Keyboard XYU - 07_00_06: Super catchy and has great usage of vanilla instruments. Great port. (11)

5. Sonic Adventure - Invincibility: This song is definitely repetitive, but it manages to do so without being annoying. Really good samples, too. (10)

6. Mario Kart Double Dash - Mushroom Bridge: I wound up listening to several loops of this port without even realizing it; it's one of those songs that's great to have on in the background. I like it. (9)

7. Final Fantasy X-2 - Memory of Lightwaves: This is really nice. My one complaint is that I don't really care for the choir sample, but that's not in much of the song so it barely matters. (8)

8. Katamari Damacy - Lonely Rolling Star: Already familiar with this song (courtesy of the MUSIC TOURNEY BAYBEEEEEEEE), but I think this port does a very solid job remaking it. I do think the chorus lacks the same punch the original had, though. (7)

9. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 - Training Mode: This is good, but I'm not really a fan of the horn samples. (6)

10. Persona 4 - Heartbeat, Heartbreak: This one slowly started to grow on me by the end. Doesn't stand out a whole lot, though. (5)

11. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles - Promised Grace: This is decent, but it just sounds like it's missing something. (4)

12. Kingdom Hearts II - Dearly Beloved: I feel like this is a more interesting version of the other Dearly Beloved. Not sure how different the two songs sound in their respective games, but this one has a lot more variation throughout. (3)

13. Kingdom Hearts - Dearly Beloved: A bit dull/repetitive for my taste, but it doesn't sound bad. (2)

14. Pikmin 2 - Perplexing Pool: Ehhhhh...a bit shrill for my taste. (1)
Check out my WIP romhack!
These songs all sounded good to me, but I'll have to order them. The top is the best, and the bottom is... not best.

“YAAAARGH!!! I can’t decide! I just can’t decide!!”
A tough choice. It's hard to pick which one is the best-est.

Nothing I would say is "bad" in the bunch, and the rankings don't do justice to how close I feel these are. Well done to all who participated.

3) La Keyboard XYU - 07_00_06

4) Sonic Adventure - Invincibility

I'm not a doctor.

Looks like I'm voting this time around. Sweet!! Let's do this...

Marvel vs. Capcom 2 - Training Mode *Rank #1*
YOOOOOOOO!!! THIS STUFF IS ACTUALLY LIT!!! Actually sounds like a perfect recreation of the original theme and those samples... ON GOD!!! This

Sonic Adventure - Leading Lights Rank #2
I... I'm in awe. The samples used are just... wow! It just has a good feeling on the ears

Mario Kart Double Dash - Mushroom Bridge Rank #3
I'll admit I'm biased on this one given Mushroom Bridge is one of my favorite themes in the entire Mario Kart franchise. This unsampled rendition of it is awesome. I personally think the lead @6 could've had the notes extended a bit more, but that's all I can criticize, and it's very minor.

Marvel vs. Capcom - War Machine Rank #4
A very golden theme, and this version is absolutely near-perfect. The snare used does sound weak compared to the original, and I felt a much more hard-hitting snare would have benefitted a lot more, but otherwise, damn good! It's another one of my favorites (from the Marvel side) in MvC1.

La Keyboard XYU - 07_00_06 Rank #5
Ooooooh! This is pretty groovy. Another great use of the SMW samples alone 'cuz the mixing is great. Not familiar with the original, but if this is anything to go by, I think I'd have to listen to the original... if I can find it on YouTube easily.

Final Fantasy X-2 - Memory of Lightwaves Rank #6
Pretty good. Not too familiar with the original, but the piano samples used here absolutely enhance the song along with everything else. After listening to it on YouTube, it's a freaking great recreation of the original song.

Katamari Damacy - Lonely Rolling Star Rank #7
Not bad. Could've had better sample choices here and there as some of them sound out of place, but overall, it works. Don't have much more to say here.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles - Promised Grace Rank #8
Not way too familiar with the original, but after listening to it just now, it seems this version seems to do nearly everything mostly well, but I feel the echoing

Kingdom Hearts - Dearly Beloved Rank #9
Oooooooooh! This is pretty deep. Definitely putting this up pretty high for its sample choices alone and also being a great atmospheric theme in general.

Kingdom Hearts II - Dearly Beloved Rank #10
Huh... this is not too shabby. I think the @1 chord could've been a bit more quiet than the pianos, but this is pretty good.

Pikmin 2 - Perplexing Pool Rank #11
Would be neat, but I swear, the lead samples don't have enough echo like the background notes, and the sample mixing just sounds off.

Persona 4 - Heartbeat, Heartbreak Rank #12
Started out pretty strong until the rest of instruments came in and... yeah. It sounds hella different than the original, and the pitch bending of the lead @0 just sounds off. Pretty disappointing given how much I like Persona 4's OST. At least the percussion samples sound good enough.

Sonic Mega Collection Plus - Extras Rank #13
Don't get the exact same vibe here as the original theme, and I have a lot of nostalgia towards Mega Collection. The sample choices / octaves could've been handled way better, there is hardly much echo, and the percussion used feels weak. Kind of disappointing, honestly.

Sonic Adventure - Invincibility Rank #14
I dunno, chief, but this ain't it. I can't tell if it is the hi-hats being non-existent or the samples used but it just sounds very empty compared to the original.

That's all my votes. Hooded Edge signing out!!!
