Katsumi Tanaka - Memories of PuyoPuyo (Remodel '94)

Clever Girl - Elm
Now that I've started working, I won't be able to be as active as before. This is really very sad and depressing for me.

WORK IN PROGRESS
▬ good old days 4 (10/? level(s) completed)
▬ dumb 2 - strange levels in my notepad (22/62 level(s) completed)
----------
By the way my Youtube channel
1. Katsumi Tanaka - Memories of PuyoPuyo (Remodel '94): This one's pretty good. Nice and chill.
2. Clever Girl - Elm: This one's solid.
---------------
3. Tekitoukun - Rock My Marions: I actually liked this one quite a bit; call it a guilty pleasure, I guess. I do think it would be better with instruments other than Mario sounds, though :P
4. Helena Noguerra - Scent of Love: Not a bad song, but...there's a Bayonetta pachislot game?????
5. Donna Summer - Dim All the Lights: Can't say I was expecting to see a Donna Summer song in this tourney. I honestly think this song kinda dragged, though; Last Dance would've been a much better choice, and I probably would've voted for it.
6. Buunshin - Sterven: This song just builds up for 5 and a half minutes and then ends
7. Marco Antonio Solís - Más Que Tu Amigo: Never really been into this kind of salsa music.
8. Off with their Heads - Nightlife: I feel like I've heard tons of songs that sound exactly like this. I don't even have anything funny to say about it. It's just bad
Check out my WIP romhack!

My picks...
  • Clever Girl - Elm
  • Helena Noguerra - Scent of Love

Commentary...
  • Helena Noguerra - Scent of Love caused me to react in confusion at the source stated... namely, a Pachi-slot game??? Mostly because I'm only familiar with the Super Famicom games that feature pachi-slots, I swear the music would normally only play when they're in some sort of bonus round. In this case, because I haven't known them in real life (unlike our American slot machines, which... well... I also haven't done with much, citing credit requirements). Looking at the wiki... there's way more to this than I expected. Actually, I ended choosing the jazzy songs this go round at two different paces overall, and this one ended up being one of them.
[cracks knuckles] Time to finish this!

Anyway, my choices are:
  1. Katsumi Tanaka - Memories of PuyoPuyo (Remodel '94) (from Bayoen!!: The Megatracks of PuyoPuyo CD album)
(My last nomination for this tourney. Katsumi Tanaka's sick beats will beat every song to the punch—and you can't STOP him from taking over the tournament!)
“In the game of Puyo Puyo, I will punish you!”
  2. Clever Girl - Elm
    (No question.)

Honorable mention:
  • Tekitoukun - Rock My Marions
(I'M-A BETTIN' YOU CAN DO THIS)

Helena Noguerra - Scent of Love
Donna Summer - Dim All the Lights

this set goes out to the ladies
Helena Noguerra - Scent of Love
Off With Their Heads - "Nightlife"

wish scent of love was actually in bayonetta and not the pachislot game. good thing i can mod it in in the PC ver #smrpg{:D}
1. Helena Noguerra - Scent of Love (damn, nice; I heard quite a few things about Bayonetta's music, and I guess this sounds fairly similar to the things I heard about it lol, pretty cool stuff haha)

2. Buunshin - Sterven (ngl, I'm honestly nominating this for the sound design alone, cuz good god do I like it lol; very massive and heavy sound, and in general the bass hits really hard here, maybe a bit too much if I'm being honest, but still, this has a very cool soundscape and it definitely sounds hella powerful and all that maybe I should take some notes for my own music cuz I tend to struggle a lot with bass frequencies in particular lol)

3. Donna Summer - Dim All the Lights (honestly, I would've nominated this, but I really don't know why did it need to be 7 minutes long lol; there's also a fake-out ending part near the end that seems like it would sound cool, but it just ends up continuing the song like normal afterwards and doesn't do anything interesting with that, which I found very weird... but otherwise this song was actually pretty cool, much better than I was expecting too, but yeah, those two things definitely made me reconsider voting for it sadly)

4. Tekitoukun - Rock My Marions (huh, this was surprisingly not too bad of a YTPMV lol, it's too bad that I heard this song so many times before in like, most YTPMVs out there, but it's definitely very well done... just not as interesting as the other tracks sadly. btw, unrelated, but I would've liked if the visuals were a bit more involved, cuz it was kind of pretty basic; not anything that involves this particular competition btw, just judging this as a YTPMV as well since I definitely know a thing or two about how those videos tend to be done :P)

5. Off with their Heads - Nightlife (nice lol, definitely like the uplifting and energetic vibe of these punk rock tracks quite a bit, but yeah, it wasn't that good by comparison to most of the other tracks)

6. Clever Girl - Elm (not bad, but quite frankly I didn't like this nearly as much as others did, it just sounds very boring and repetitive and just drones on far too much, and in general it sounds very random in how some of the notes are put out, like there's not much of a intention in anything, it's just placed there for no real rhyme or reason... was definitely disappointed with this IMO)

7. Marco Antonio Solís - Más Que Tu Amigo (nice funny Spanish song, definitely don't mind this kinda shit at all... but sadly, it really doesn't stand well at all in comparison to everything else LOL)

8. Katsumi Tanaka - Memories of PuyoPuyo (Remodel '94) (honestly, this just... doesn't sound good at all IMO; like, I actually love the original track this is based on, but this just has the parts I dislike about the original but repeated ad nauseum, and it just sounds extremely repetitive in general, which is why I wonder why the original song isn't submitted instead so this kinda shit doesn't happen... meh, whatever I guess)

MY TWO CHOICES:

PERFECT!!
1. HELENA NOGUERRA - SCENT OF LOVE
2. KATSUMI TANAKA - MEMORIES OF PUYOPUYO (REMODEL ’94)

HONORABLE MENTIONS:

GREAT!
3. Marco Antonio Solís - Más Que Tu Amigo
4. Clever Girl - Elm

GooD
5. Tekitoukun - Rock My Marions: This one is strange, but I think it sounds pretty okay.

AND THE OTHER SONGS:

ALMOST
6. Donna Summer - Dim All the Lights: The song is good and the genre is groovy, but I personally found it very boring because of the 7-minute duration and the repetitive chorus without any changes.
We Are The World by USA for Africa, for example, has the same duration and repeats the chorus several times during the last half of the song, but the singers’ intervention is different every time it sounds and it has a modulation from E to F (sort of, I don’t have much music knowledge) after it sounds twice. I like that song very much.

Boo!
7. Off with their Heads - Nightlife
8. Buunshin - Sterven

This is a reference to Dance Dance Revolution judgements.

----------
By the way my Youtube channel
1. Whitewoods - Fantasy Mind: I really like the aesthetic of both the song and the music video. They just have good vibes
2. Kenji Ito - Last Battle (Arrangement): Really good arrangement, but I've always preferred the final boss theme from the first Romancing SaGa over this one. Still, this sounds great regardless.
---------------
3. Xi - Valhalla: Nice song. I'm already somewhat familiar with Xi (namely their songs Halcyon and Freedom Dive), but this is definitely my favorite song of theirs that I've heard.
4. Hirokazu Ando & Jun Ishikawa - Vs. Magolor: It's not bad. Hits a lot more when you're actually in the battle, though.
5. Sega Sound Team - Track 4 [Last Survivor (FM Towns)]: This one's alright. It starts to drag towards the end, though.
6. XTC - Greenman: I do not want to bend down for the Greenman
7. Masked Intruder - I Don't Wanna Be Alone Tonight: The song wasn't that great, but I enjoyed the music video a lot. Also goes to show that blue is, in fact, the best color.
8. Sun Kil Moon - Carry Me Ohio: Meh. Kinda boring, and I wasn't a fan of the vocals.

List Soundtrack - List Hacks

Mega Man X3 OSTs
1. Kenji Ito - Last Battle (Arrangement): The trading off synth and guitar in this song are really cool. Probably my favorite of the bunch.

2. Sun Kil Moon - Carry Me Ohio: The clean guitar and soft vocals blend really well in this. It's very chill.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Masked Intruder - I Don't Wanna Be Alone Tonight: A little repetitive but awfully catchy. The music video was really creative and fun to watch.

Xi - Valhalla: I don't dislike this, but it feels kinda chaotic.

Sega Sound Team - Track 4 [Last Survivor (FM Towns)]: The guitar is awesome haha~

Hirokazu Ando & Jun Ishikawa - Vs. Magolor: I'm sure I'd like this more if I was playing Kirby. I mean the drums are neat and out of control. Kinda fun to imagine a dude playing them.

Whitewoods - Fantasy Mind: I liked that a lot from the very beginning. Another one with a neat music video.

XTC - Green Man: As an XTC fan I'm glad to see that they made it into this contest. But I will not comply.
