SMWCentral Official Annual Music Tourney #1 2021 - end

MusicOther Contest/Event

black earth - very good
six - neat

-

wouldnt it be good - pretty standard but enjoyable (if you decide to find an upload that isn't terrible, that is)
its a b movie - extremely cheesy but also quite catchy
boo hoo - not bad
dearly beloved - good song but not very interesting on its own

transcending, overpowering, everlasting - i was interested until it completely lost me at 1:41, the melodies really fall off after that point (also the arrangement is...not great)
reflections - the video is significantly better than the song and i dont like the video that much
soundcloud / bandcamp / twitter / buy/stream my EP / buy my touhou music / buy my NEW album!!!
Van Dyke Parks - It's A 'B' Movie - hell yeah sure brave little toaster vote
Hampton Grease Band - Six - one of my fav tracks ever
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Tristan Alric - Transcending, Overpowering, Everlasting - bug fables is a funny name. I found this pretty nice throughout
Django Django - Reflections - fine high energy track
Yōko Shimomura - Dearly Beloved - this is a good sad track
Nik Kershaw - Wouldn't It Be Good - where can i get a jacket like this ? its ok.
Fazıl SAY - Kara Toprak, Black Earth, Op. 08 - theres parts that grab me but its not really my thing
Soft Girl - Boo Hoo - pretty meh
MY TWO CHOICES:

TRISTAN ALRIC - TRANSCENDING, OVERPOWERING, EVERLASTING
NIK KERSHAW - WOULDN'T IT BE GOOD:
I like its serene, cheerful and cool rhythm. This song makes me feel like I’m in the 80’s or maybe a little bit in the 70’s (I love old music).

HONORABLE MENTIONS:
3. Django Django - Reflections
4. Van Dyke Parks - It's A 'B' Movie
5. Hampton Grease Band - Six

AND THE OTHER SONGS:
6. Soft Girl - Boo Hoo
7. Fazıl SAY - Kara Toprak, Black Earth, Op. 08

I prefer not to put Dearly Beloved since I nominated that song.
Hampton Grease Band - Six : i like this song

Django Django - Reflections: Django Django Unchained
SET CC RESULTS:
Hampton Grease Band - Six (6)
Django Django - Reflections (6)

Fazıl SAY - Kara Toprak, Black Earth, Op. 08 (5)

The Rapture - Out of the Races and Onto the Tracks

Jimmy Cliff - I Can See Clearly Now
Now that I've started working, I won't be able to be as active as before. This is really very sad and depressing for me.

The Rapture - Out of the Races and Onto the Tracks
Jimmy Cliff - I Can See Clearly Now

List Soundtrack - List Hacks

Mega Man X3 OSTs
Masashi Hamauzu - Ypsilon+ [1]
Ruby My Dear - Croque Monsieur À Disneyland

electric power building - hell yeah
fly high - i enjoy this

-

ypsilon+ - very good piano, but it is just piano
out of the races - hmm, i wouldnt listen to it but i dont hate it

i can see clearly now - classic, but i dont like it that much
croque monsieur a disneyland - the breaks and production are cool. the constant circus music makes it hard to listen to though. its almost in a weird zone where even though it isn't vgm it would work better as vgm with some kind of context
triptych lux - way too long for its own good and only about half(?) of it is enjoyable but not even one half i can isolate and listen to it just goes back and forth over and over
witch doctor - lolk
soundcloud / bandcamp / twitter / buy/stream my EP / buy my touhou music / buy my NEW album!!!
Definitely one of the weirdest sets we've had so far.

1. Jimmy Cliff - I Can See Clearly Now: I'm typically not in favor of voting for songs that literally everyone knows, but this is genuinely the best song in this set, so...
2. Ruby My Dear - Croque Monsieur À Disneyland: This kind of fast-paced EDM is generally not my thing, but I enjoyed this (aside from the stomach gurgling-esque sounds in the last 20 seconds or so; that was just really gross).
---------------
3. Masashi Hamauzu - Ypsilon+ [1]: I like the "DUN. DUN-DUUUN" parts
4. Hitoshi Sakimoto - Electric Power Building: I already forgot what the first half of this sounds like
5. The Rapture - Out of the Races and Onto the Tracks: This reminds me of the Hampton Grease Band song from the previous set in that it also oscillates between really cool and really annoying; the difference is that unlike Hamtpon Grease Band, this one leans more towards being really annoying
6. Ne Obliviscaris - Painters of the Tempest (Part II): Triptych Lux: The super hardcore screamo parts were awful, but the more laid back instrumentals were actually pretty good
7. Noriko Hidaka - Fly High: I would've liked this if it was about half of its current length. As it is, it just feels way too drawn out
8. Ross Bagdasarian - Witch Doctor (Furby Mix): I remember Deppy mentioning that there was a Bad Music Tourney a few years back, where the idea was to nominate/vote for the worst songs possible. If that ever happens again, I think this has a pretty good shot of winning
Check out my WIP romhack!
1. Ruby My Dear - Croque Monsieur À Disneyland
2. Ne Obliviscaris - Painters of the Tempest (Part II): Triptych Lux

3. Jimmy Cliff - I Can See Clearly Now
4. Noriko Hidaka – Fly High
5. Hitoshi Sakimoto - Electric Power Building
6. Masashi Hamauzu - Ypsilon+ [1]
7. The Rapture - Out of the Races and Onto the Tracks
8. Ross Bagdasarian - Witch Doctor (Furby Mix)

This set was quite "out there". ouiiiiiiiii
Noriko Hidaka – Fly High

The Rapture - Out of the Races and Onto the Tracks

Here are my picks...
  • Ne Obliviscaris - Painters of the Tempest (Part II): Triptych Lux
  • Masashi Hamauzu - Ypsilon+ [1]

And some commentary...
  • Ne Obliviscaris - Painters of the Tempest (Part II): Triptych Lux gains a variety pack advantage in my book despite the longer length. Seems to be a mixture of heavy metal, rock, classical guitar, and a small bit of orchestral.
  • Ruby My Dear - Croque Monsieur À Disneyland falls under the more bizarre list for me.
  • I recognized Jimmy Cliff - I Can See Clearly Now, but in hindsight I didn't remember which one I heard. Thus, I ended up listening to the original (by Johnny Nash) due to this confusion in my recollection: I determined that it was more likely the Jimmy Cliff version that I was remembering.
  • I ended up picking Masashi Hamauzu - Ypsilon+ [1], choosing the simplistic piano route out of the rest of this set. Noticeably, I took out my own nomination, Ross Bagdasarian - Witch Doctor (Furby Mix) in the process. That one was grouped with Noriko Hidaka – Fly High due to similar execution, which hurt my chances of giving it a pass. Ah well, better luck next time, furbies. ^OO^
Masashi Hamauzu - Ypsilon+ [1]
Hitoshi Sakimoto - Electric Power Building

Noriko Hidaka – Fly High
Ne Obliviscaris - Painters of the Tempest (Part II): Triptych Lux

Pretty solid set, it was tough to choose two out of these and Ypsilon+, but these two won out over it. I Can See Clearly Now was a good classic and enjoyable as well. The Furby Witch Doctor pick, on the other hand, certainly caught me off guard.
embed fail!!

-Noriko Hidaka - Fly High
this is my own pick, but I really do love it, why I put it in this contest afterall

-Breath of Fire V - Electric Power Building (PowerOne)
this song rocks, feels very foreboding and atmospheric, and reminds me that I need to play this game still

-Jimmy Cliff - I Can See Clearly Now (Video Version)
this song is really nice, very enjoyable listen, don't have much to say on it outside of that though oop

-Ruby My Dear - Croque Monsieur A Disneyland
a weird song, but unlike the furby one this is something I can enjoy listening to

-Piano Pieces Saga Frontier 2 - Ypsilon+
this song really just... happened. I kept waiting for it to take off and then it ended

-Witch Doctor | Furby Mix
wow is this not what I thought I'd be listening to today, I really don't know what to think of it so I'll just put it over the screaming songs

-Ne Obliviscaris - Painters of the Tempest (Part II): Triptych Lux
not bad at all but way too long for my liking, and I don't like the voice here either but not to the same extent as rapture, plus I do like the underlying song a lot more then rapture too

-The Rapture - Out Of The Races And Onto The Tracks
really hate the voice on this one, kills an otherwise alright song for me
Noriko Hidaka – Fly High
Hitoshi Sakimoto - Electric Power Building

Ne Obliviscaris - Painters of the Tempest (Part II): Triptych Lux | fun band, not my favorite track of theirs but it's still a bop and a half
Ruby My Dear - Croque Monsieur À Disneyland | funny

not much to say about the other songs this set
The Rapture - Out of the Races and Onto the Tracks
Jimmy Cliff - I Can See Clearly Now
It's voting time...
1- Noriko Hidaka - Fly High
2- Breath of Fire V - Electric Power Building (PowerOne)
Stay peachy and see ya next time
